Drain the Lake: How to Farm Crafting Materials and Tokens Fast

The quickest way to stockpile upgrade materials is hunting collectibles in the deep caverns and cashing them in with the Item Appraiser.

The quickest way to stockpile upgrade materials is hunting collectibles in the deep caverns and cashing them in with the Item Appraiser.

Grinding basic water trips will eventually fund your upgrades in Drain the Lake, but it is the slow lane. The real material pipeline runs through collectibles. Sunken Treasures, crystals, and rare bones sell for huge token payouts and drop upgrade materials, and a single deep-cavern run can replace hours of surface bailing.

Quick answer: Upgrade your oxygen tank to Deep Diver, equip flippers, sweep the mid-depth ruins for Sunken Treasures and Blue Crystals, then dive the deep caverns for Red Crystals and Megalodon Bones. Teleport back to the island and sell everything to the Item Appraiser near the shop.

Where materials and upgrade drops come from

Materials in Drain the Lake are tied to collectibles scattered across the lake floor. Sunken Treasures are the direct source of random upgrade materials, while crystals and rare bones convert into large token sums that pay for the rest of your upgrade ladder. The deeper you go, the higher the tier of what you find.

CollectibleWhere it spawnsWhat it gives
Sunken TreasuresMid-depth ruinsRandom upgrade materials
Blue CrystalDeep caverns and cavesUp to 2,000 tokens
Red CrystalHidden cavern wall2,000 tokens (Secret tier)
Megalodon BoneDeep trench floor800 tokens
Gold ChainMid-depth chest350 tokens
Golden EggSecret nest / deep floor5,000 tokens (Legendary)

Note: Red Crystals alone can net thousands of tokens instantly, which is why serious material farming starts in the deep caverns rather than the shallows.

Fastest farming route for materials

This loop keeps you diving with enough oxygen to reach the high-value spawns, then dumps everything for tokens before you head back down.

Upgrade your oxygen tank to at least the Deep Diver level and equip basic flippers before you dive. High water pressure in the deep caverns drains oxygen much faster, so going down under-equipped just costs you time.
Descend to the mid-lake level and sweep the stone structures and underwater ruins. This is where Blue Crystals and Sunken Treasures sit, and the Treasures are your main source of upgrade materials.
Head to the cavern entrance at the bottom-left of the lake and work through the tight tunnels. The hyper-rare Red Crystal and Megalodon Bones live here, and they carry the biggest payouts per pickup.
Once your inventory is full, open the menu and use the instant teleport to return to the surface island. Visit the Item Appraiser NPC near the shop and sell your finds for a large token payout.

Tip: If you get low on oxygen deep in a cave, do not panic. The teleport menu returns you to the surface instantly with every collectible still in your inventory, so you never lose a run to drowning.

Bucket upgrades that speed up material collection

Your bucket controls how much you carry and how fast you scoop, so a better bucket means fewer trips and more materials per dive. Some are bought outright from the shop, while the strongest ones only drop from the in-game Wheel Spin.

BucketHow to get itEffect
Classic BucketFree starterBase capacity
Plastic Bucket150 tokens+2 capacity
Metal Bucket500 tokens+5 capacity
Magnetic BucketWheel Spin onlyPulls nearby items and loose tokens
Golden Bucket2,000 gems5x token yield
Toxic BucketWheel Spin onlyMax speed and capacity

The Magnetic Bucket is the standout for farming because it passively drags floating items and loose tokens toward you, cutting down on manual pickup. It and the Toxic Bucket have low drop rates on the wheel, so save your free spins instead of burning premium currency chasing them early.

Reinvest into oxygen and the Skill Tree

Materials are only useful if you can keep reaching the zones that drop them. Push your oxygen tank toward the Deep Diver or Royal Reserve tier so you can stay in high-pressure caverns long enough to grab the rare spawns. Faster flippers shorten travel time between the ruins, the caverns, and the surface.

Feed your token payouts back into the Skill Tree rather than hoarding them. Bucket capacity and collection efficiency reduce the number of trips each run takes, and token efficiency raises the value of everything you drain. Prioritize whichever upgrade is slowing your current loop the most, then chase depth progression once the basics are strong.

How to know the farm is working

You are on the right track when a single deep-cavern loop fills your inventory with crystals and Treasures, and the Item Appraiser pays out thousands of tokens at once. Hitting milestone badges is another confirmation. Sunken Secrets fires when you find your first hidden cavern collectible, and Sunken Riches unlocks once you have collected over ten rare crystals.

If your runs feel slow, the usual culprits are diving before upgrading oxygen, skipping the mid-depth ruins where Sunken Treasures spawn, or forgetting to sell at the Appraiser between dives. Fix those three, keep your route between the deep zones and the teleport short, and the material stockpile builds quickly on the way down to the lost phone.
