Palworld: Best Pals for a Status Ailment Build

Five Pals that reliably apply Electrified, Soak, Burn, and Freeze to control fights and stack extra damage.

Five Pals that reliably apply Electrified, Soak, Burn, and Freeze to control fights and stack extra damage.

A status ailment build in Palworld wins fights by controlling enemies and stacking damage instead of relying on raw attack alone. Effects like Electrified, Soak, Burn, and Freeze either lock enemies in place or make follow-up hits land harder, and the right Pals apply those effects automatically through their Partner Skills. Every status effect also raises a wild Pal’s capture rate while it is active, so the same team doubles as a catching tool.

Quick answer: Build around Orserk and Snock for Electrified, Ophydia for Soak, Jormuntide Ignis for Burn, and Frostallion for Freeze. Pair Ophydia’s Soak with Orserk’s Electric attacks so Electric moves deal double damage.

How status ailments carry a team

Combat status effects are applied by weapons, some structures, and enemy skills. A target can only hold one combat status at a time, and a new one replaces the old, with a single exception. Poison stacks independently, so it can tick alongside another condition. Each effect is tied to an element, and Pals of that element are usually immune, which is why matching your Pal to the region matters.

The real payoff comes from element interactions. Soak makes Electric attacks deal double damage, Electrify sets up the same Water-into-Electric pressure, and Burn makes several Fire-focused Partner Skills trigger bonus damage. Freeze simply removes the enemy from the fight for a few seconds. Building a party where one Pal applies the ailment and another exploits it is the core of the whole approach.

Orserk: the Electrified anchor

Orserk is one of the strongest Electric-types in the game and the backbone of an Electrified team. Its Partner Skill raises the Attack and Defense of the Pal fighting beside you whenever you hit an enemy with a bullet, so it rewards aggressive shooting. Electric moves like Lightning Bolt and Polykeraunos let it apply Electrified again and again.

You can find Orserk around the World Tree, where it spawns during both day and night. It also fits naturally into most late-game rosters, so it rarely takes a party slot away from a stronger option.

Snock: hands-free Electrified pressure

Snock is not a heavy hitter, but its Partner Skill makes your own attacks inflict Electrified while it stays in the party. That means you keep enemies under constant pressure without needing an Electric weapon or move in your hands. It still carries usable attacks such as Lightning Bolt, All Range Thunder, and Shell Charge for moments when you want it doing damage directly.

Snock appears as a Level 65 Field Boss in the northern part of Sunreach’s Crystalline Archipelago. Beating it there is the route to adding this support piece to your team.

Ophydia: Soak setup for double Electric damage

Ophydia consistently applies Soak, and its Partner Skill lets your own attacks inflict it too. Soak on its own slows a target, but its real value is the elemental follow-up. A soaked enemy takes double damage from Electric attacks, which turns Ophydia into the perfect partner for Orserk or any Electric-heavy setup.

Ophydia shows up as a Field Alpha Boss in Sunreach. To reach it, follow the river northwest from the Waterlily Gorge fast travel point toward the southwestern part of the area.

Jormuntide Ignis: Burn and bonus damage

Jormuntide Ignis is a Fire/Dragon Pal that both applies Burn and amplifies it. Its Partner Skill increases the damage you and your allied Pals deal to enemies that are already burning, so it doubles as damage dealer and damage multiplier. Moves like Magma Serpent and Fire Ball keep the Burn stacking while dealing heavy Fire damage, which is especially strong against Grass and Ice targets.

There are several ways to obtain it. It appears in the No. 2 Wildlife Sanctuary and in a small section of Feybreak, hatches from Huge Dragon Eggs found around Mount Obsidian, and can be bred by combining Jormuntide with Blazehowl.

Frostallion: Freeze and crowd control

Frostallion remains the top Ice option for locking enemies down through Freeze, which completely immobilizes a target for a few seconds. Repeated Freezes give you crowd control in tough fights where a single free window can turn the encounter. As a flying mount, its Partner Skill also changes your attacks to the Ice element while mounted, and those attacks can inflict Freeze themselves.

Ice techniques like Double Blizzard Spike and Absolute Frost make it a genuine damage threat on top of the control. Frostallion is a Level 60 Legendary Field Alpha Boss in the snowy region of the northwestern map, located east of the Land of Absolute Zero teleport point at roughly (-357, 508).

Building the party and confirming it works

The cleanest core is Ophydia plus Orserk, because Soak feeds directly into doubled Electric damage. Snock frees you from carrying an Electric weapon by adding Electrified to your normal attacks, while Jormuntide Ignis and Frostallion cover the Fire and Ice lanes for enemies that resist Electric. If you want to spread Burn by hand instead of relying only on Pals, a Fire Arrow Crossbow works, though its reload makes it slower than a melee approach.

You will know the build is working when status icons appear over enemies and the follow-up numbers climb. A soaked target lit up by Electric moves should take visibly larger hits, a burning target should keep losing health between your attacks, and a frozen enemy will stand still while your team fires freely. Because Freeze and the elemental debuffs are blocked by matching-element enemies, swap the relevant Pal when a boss shares that element rather than forcing the same ailment.
