Timebomb Duels Beginner Guide: How to Win With Movement Tech

Enable shift lock, master a few evasion techniques, and stop holding the bomb when it explodes.

Timebomb Duels is a Roblox party game with one cruel rule. One player spawns holding a ticking bomb, and they have to tag someone else to pass it before the countdown hits zero. Whoever is holding it when it blows up gets eliminated, and rounds keep going until a single player is left standing. There are no weapons, no loadouts, and no gear to grind for during the Alpha. Everyone runs at the same base speed, so wins come entirely from how well you move.

Quick answer: Turn on Shift Lock in Roblox settings, keep constant distance from the bomb holder using diagonal strafing and sharp jukes, and never be the one carrying the bomb when the roughly 10-second timer expires.

How a Timebomb Duels round works

The bomb timer runs for about 10 seconds from the moment you receive it. Passing works purely through physical contact, so you literally run into another player to tag them. There is no shoot button and no ability to press. If you are holding the bomb when it detonates, you are out for that round.

Explosions can leave craters that change the terrain, and those altered spots become cover or traps in later rounds. Because everyone shares the same movement speed, hiding is never a real strategy. Your defense is continuous movement and smart routing around the map.

Enable Shift Lock before anything else

Shift Lock strafing is the single most important skill in the game. It lets you run sideways and diagonally while keeping your camera locked on a target, usually the bomb holder you are trying to avoid or the player you want to tag. Without it, you are stuck at a serious disadvantage against anyone who has it on.

Launch the game on Roblox. The place ID is 11379739543, and you spawn straight into a central hub that acts as your lobby.
Open Roblox Settings and find Camera Mode. Set the Shift Lock Switch to On. This is what allows the sideways camera-locked movement competitive players rely on.
Press Shift in-game to toggle Shift Lock on and off. When it is active, your character faces the direction of your camera and you can strafe cleanly. You will know it worked when your view snaps to over-the-shoulder and your movement no longer rotates your body away from the camera.

Tip: Pick servers with low ping. A stable connection matters a lot in a game where tags happen through split-second contact, and lag will cost you tags you should have dodged.

The movement techniques that decide rounds

Eight core techniques carry competitive play, and a few of them matter far more than the rest. As a beginner, focus on the S-tier skills first and add the rest once they feel natural. The table below breaks down what each one does.

TechniqueTierWhat it does
Shift Lock StrafingSSideways and diagonal movement while tracking a target
3-Second Bomb PassSPassing late forces panic and cuts the reaction window
Ankle BreakingSRapid direction changes make opponents miss their tag
JukingASharp fake-outs that break a chase
360 SpinAClose-range hitbox shift used to escape
Circular MovementAHolds distance in 1v1 rounds
Corner PassingBBlind-angle passes using map geometry
Wall-HoppingBVertical escape on maps that support it

Start with three habits. Strafe with Shift Lock so you can watch the bomb holder while moving away from them. Learn one clean juke, a sharp 90-degree cut when someone is chasing you. And run the perimeter of the map instead of panicking toward the middle, where it is easy to get boxed in.

Playing offense as the bomb holder

When the bomb lands on you, the clock becomes your problem. Do not chase blindly across open ground. Herd an opponent toward walls and corners, where their escape options shrink, and a tag becomes much easier to land.

The 3-second pass is the advanced move here. Instead of dumping the bomb immediately, you hold it and pass late, near the end of the timer, so the person you tag gets almost no time to react before the explosion. It is risky, but it is how close duels are won. Predicting where a panicked player will run, then cutting off that path, is worth more than raw chasing.

Which mode to learn in

The lobby offers several rooms, and the right one depends on what you are trying to practice. Warm up somewhere low-pressure before you queue into structured matches.

ModeBest for
Free-for-AllWarming up and drilling controls without pressure
Open ArenaChaotic practice for juking and evasion with many players
First to FiveStructured competitive series and applying strategy

New players should stick with Free-for-All until movement feels comfortable, then move into Open Arena for busier fights. First to Five is where you test everything against opponents playing to win.

A 30-minute daily practice routine

Skill builds fast with a focused routine. Spend about 30 minutes a day split across three drills, and repeat it daily for a week before expecting consistent wins.

TimeModeFocus
10 minFree-for-AllShift Lock strafing only, build muscle memory
10 minAs bomb holderChase and herd opponents toward walls
10 minOpen ArenaApply jukes while chasing and being chased

Basic competence takes about a week of daily play. Reaching a high level takes months, so treat the early losses as the cost of learning the movement rather than a sign you are doing something wrong.

Codes, wipes, and what Beta changes

There are no active redeemable codes and no in-game redemption system yet. Codes are expected to arrive when Beta launches or during milestone events, and announcements go out through the official Customs Community Discord first. Optional game passes like Speed Boost and Custom Trails cost Robux, but the game itself is free and skill still decides matches.

Keep in mind that the game is in Alpha, which means stats wipe after each development stage ends. There is no point grinding for a permanent number, so pour that time into movement instead. A Beta update is planned for 2026 with a shop, inventory, profiles, ranked matchmaking, new maps, and kill effects, though there is no fixed public release date yet. Learn the movement now, and you will be ready the moment the meta expands.
