Cat Plays are the pettable cats scattered around the world of Where Winds Meet. Each one you find and pet counts as a Sentient Being, raises your friendship with that cat, and pushes your Area Exploration and Exploration Attribute progress forward. They are not marked clearly on the map, so knowing the exact spots is the fastest way to clear the counter.
Quick answer: Walk up to a Cat Play kitten and use the “pet” prompt. The kitten is added to your Sentient Beings Collection in the Exploration Menu, your friendship with it rises, and you receive that region’s Exploration Points and XP.
What petting a Cat Play gives you
Cat Plays are interactable cat NPCs, separate from the Meow Meow cats that hand out puzzles. There is no mini-quest attached. You simply pet them, and each interaction does three things.
- Raises your friendship with that specific cat.
- Adds the kitten to the Sentient Beings Collection in your journal.
- Grants Area Exploration and Exploration Attribute rewards for the region the cat sits in, along with Exploration Points and XP.
Because Exploration Points feed your character level, clearing Cat Plays while you quest through an area is an efficient way to bank extra progress. Many kittens sit directly on the routes between Boundary Stones, so you rarely need to detour far. Locations often hold more than one cat, so check the immediate area before moving on.

Qinghe holds 47 Cat Plays spread across its subregions, from cliffs and docks to towns and temple grounds. Use the nearest Boundary Stone as your anchor for each one.

Halo Peak and the Meow Meow Temple Whimsy cats
The Whimsy kittens all belong to the Halo Peak loop around the Meow Meow Temple, near the Path of Void. Older lists sometimes scatter these across random villages, but they are best cleared as one tight circuit at the temple. Look up around the rock formation and climb, since several sit above eye level.

Tip: The temple Whimsy cats also let you shop at the Meow Meow Store while you are there, so it is worth clearing the whole shrine in one visit.
Kaifeng Cat Play locations
Kaifeng’s city stacks vertical levels and tight alleys, so scan building entrances, plazas, and small courtyards whenever a cat indicator appears. Several spots hold clusters, most notably a group of five around one building near the Mahjong Mode area.

How to confirm a Cat Play counted
After you pet a kitten, open the Exploration Menu and check the Sentient Beings Collection. A new entry for that cat confirms it registered, and your friendship value with it moves up. If a cat is missing from your count, you either did not use the pet prompt or you have not petted every cat at a clustered spot. Halo Peak and the five-cat Kaifeng building are the most common places to leave one behind, so sweep the full area before you leave.
Whimsy 8 is the one exception to the walk-up routine. It moves along the road toward the Meow Meow Temple, so follow it and pet it only once it slows near the temple grounds.
