Armor in Beast of Reincarnation does more than pad Emma’s defense number. Each piece raises her resistance to a specific status effect, changes how easily enemies notice her, and sets how many Spirit Stone slots she can fill. Because enemies hit harder as you move deeper into the ruined world, swapping armor to match a region or a boss is often the difference between clearing a fight and getting flattened.
Quick answer: You start with the Light Gambeson equipped. The highest-defense set is the God Tree Guard, found near the Sewage Works: Ingress campsite in The Capital Zone late in the game. Every other piece sits inside a Strongbox you can open along the main path.

The pieces below are listed in the order you naturally reach them. Defense scales up steadily, so a later piece is almost always the stronger baseline. The trade-off is Enemy Awareness. A rating of Extreme means the armor is loud and enemies spot you sooner, while Nonexistent means they will not detect you at all unless you walk right up to them.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Light Gambeson | 17 | 5 | — | Low |

Emma begins with the Light Gambeson already equipped, so there is nothing to hunt for. It offers 17 defense, five Spirit Stone slots, and Low enemy awareness. It carries you through the opening hours but falls behind quickly, so replace it as soon as the first Strongbox is in reach.

The Chain Mail is your first upgrade. In Chapter 1, inside the Ogouchi Buffer Zone, look for an already-unlocked Strongbox right beside the Cliff-Facing Tower Camp. That camp sits above the large lake where you fight Rangifer, the first main boss. Chain Mail gives 50 Flame Resistance but is very loud, pushing its Enemy Awareness to Extreme.

The Thick Cuirass appears in Chapter 2 while you follow the objective to power the gate leading to the reservoir. You run past an unlocked Strongbox in a tunnel that holds it. This is also right after you meet Kunai for the first time, in a hallway next to the room where you fight the giant robot. It brings 60 Poison Resistance and keeps awareness at Medium.

The Garb of Tranquility is the stealth pick. Still in Chapter 2, after the reservoir, head toward the Nushi’s lair from the Ruins Slope: Approach campsite. Keep to your right, past the bear and Golem fighting each other, until you spot a large open pipe on the eastern side of the map. Enter it and follow the small cave to the unlocked Strongbox. Its Enemy Awareness is Nonexistent, meaning enemies simply will not notice you unless you get right on top of them.

Mid-game armor (Chapters 3 to 5)
The Insulating Mail shows up in Chapter 3, in the region around the Mountain Village and the Great Wall Terraces. Head to the western side of the map, toward an area that looks like a power plant, and find the small metal shack near the top with a Strongbox inside. It is closest to the Mountain Village Entrance Camp and delivers a high 70 Lightning Resistance.

The Floral Wraps are hard to miss near the end of Chapter 3. Look beside the Merchant Golem, right before the Nushi’s lair and directly next to the Old Sagami Colony: Approach camp. This is one of the few pieces with the maximum six Spirit Stone slots, which makes it valuable well past its defense rating.

The Leather Garb is in Chapter 4, during the cave stretch tied to the “Origin of Ringing” objective. Not long after you meet the Merchant Golem inside the cave, an unlocked Strongbox sits directly beside the Cave Depths Camp. It pushes Flame Resistance up to 80, though its Enemy Awareness rises to High.

The Scale Coat opens Chapter 5. In the Matsukawa Zone, an unlocked Strongbox sits on the eastern side of the map right beside the Ruins: Approach camp, so you will walk past it almost immediately. It offers 70 Poison Resistance and a solid five slots, making it a dependable mid-game workhorse.

Late-game and highest-defense armor
The Mirror Guard is the first of the heavy pieces. It sits on the far western side of the Matsukawa Zone, guarded by an Elite enemy. Beat that enemy, open the Strongbox, and you get 45 defense with 80 Acid Resistance. It only has four slots, so treat it as a defensive fallback rather than a build-friendly piece.
The Dance Attire is in the Fuji Frontier Zone, inside a Strongbox very close to a Wandering Merchant near the Collapsed Pipes: Approach camp. It is one of the standout pieces because it combines six slots with resistance to two elements, giving 60 Flame and 60 Lightning Resistance plus Low awareness.
The Amber Breastplate waits in the Giant Tree Zone of the Drowned Region, in a Strongbox next to the Giant Tree: Root Depths campsite near the start of the level. Its 90 Acid Resistance is the highest single-element value on any armor, which matters against the Nushi boss that leans heavily on Acid damage.
The Ornate Robe is in the Crater Zone of the Wasteland Region. You come across its Strongbox naturally while heading to the fortress in the crater during the “Cavern Gates” objective. It carries dual 80 Flame and 80 Lightning Resistance alongside Low awareness, making it a strong all-rounder for the final stretch.
The God Tree Guard is the last and best armor in the game. Find it in a Strongbox near the Sewage Works: Ingress campsite in The Capital Zone, close to the end. With 59 defense, six slots, and both 80 Poison and 80 Acid Resistance, nothing else matches its combination of protection and flexibility.
Every piece here lives inside a Strongbox that is already unlocked, so the only real challenge is spotting the detours off the main path. Grab each one as you pass through its chapter, then match the resistance to whatever region or boss is giving you trouble. When you reach The Capital Zone, the God Tree Guard becomes the clear default, but the six-slot options like Floral Wraps, Dance Attire, and Amber Breastplate stay useful whenever you want to lean into Spirit Stone builds.
