Build a Base and Steal: How to Get Pets

The three ways to add cash-earning critters to your base, plus how mutations change their value.

The three ways to add cash-earning critters to your base, plus how mutations change their value.

Pets are the engine of Build a Base and Steal. Every critter that roams inside your pet pen produces Cash each second, and that Cash pays for crates, more animals, and the upgrades that keep raiders out. Higher-rarity pets and pets carrying mutations earn faster, so a pet’s real value comes down to how much money it generates over time.

Quick answer: Get pets three ways—use the “Roll a Pet” button and buy the spawned critter with Cash, steal a pet from another player’s base, or receive a mutated pet during a developer-run Admin Abuse event.

Roll for a pet with the “Roll a Pet” button

Rolling is the main way to build your collection, and it happens right at your home base next to the “Roll a Block” button. Rerolls are free, so you can keep spinning until a pet you actually want to buy appears on the platform.

Walk up to the “Roll a Pet” button and interact with it. A pet will appear on the platform in front of you.
Check the price and income-per-second shown above the pet’s head. If it isn’t worth the cost, roll again for free until something better shows up.
When you find a pet you want, approach the critter and hold the E key to buy it with your Cash. You need enough Cash on hand to complete the purchase.

Note: The roll itself is free, but you still pay the listed price in Cash to keep the pet. Raising your Pet Luck improves the chance of rolling rarer, higher-earning animals.

Steal a pet from another player’s base

Stealing is the fastest way to grab a rare, high-earning pet without paying for it yourself. You break into a rival base, take a critter from their pen, and carry it home. The catch is that getting hit while carrying a pet makes your character drop it, so a clean route matters more than raw speed.

Scout the target base and look for shortcuts or weak points that lead toward their pet pen. Plan both your way in and your way out before you commit.
Enter the pen and interact with the pet you want to lift. Your character picks up the animal and starts carrying it.
Head back to your own base while avoiding the owner. Hide in corners, jump over obstacles, and stick to narrow lanes so you aren’t spotted or hit before you reach home.

Tip: Keep an eye out for anyone chasing you. A single hit drops the pet, and a rival can reclaim it, so the exit route is the part of the plan people get wrong most often.

Get mutated pets from Admin Abuse events

The developers occasionally hand out mutated pets during Admin Abuse events, which run roughly weekly. These sessions are hosted and controlled by the game creators and include mutation events, mini-games, and drops of unreleased items triggered directly by the developers. Showing up while one is live is the only way to collect these giveaways.

How pets earn Cash and why mutations matter

Pets are the only source of income in the game. Once a pet sits inside your pet pen, it produces Cash every second, and you collect that Cash by stepping on the “Collect” button. The cheapest option, the Dog, costs 50 Cash and earns 2 Cash per second, which gives you a baseline for judging every other pet you roll or steal.

Mutations come from events that fire on the server, and each one multiplies a pet’s income rate. A mutated pet also sells for more than its regular version, which raises both its passive earnings and its resale value. These are the mutations a pet can carry:

MutationEffect
GoldenMultiplies the pet’s income rate
CosmicMultiplies the pet’s income rate
InfernoMultiplies the pet’s income rate
AdminMultiplies the pet’s income rate

Every new pet you acquire is logged in the Index. Filling out Index entries lets you claim rewards that grant permanent Luck and Cash boosts, so even a low-value pet is worth rolling once for the collection credit.

Once you have a few reliable earners, the smart play is to keep your best pets deep inside a well-built base, roll or steal for higher rarities, and chase mutations whenever server events light up. That loop of earning, protecting, and upgrading is what carries you toward rebirths and the stronger pets that follow.
