The opening chapter of A.A.U. Black Site has been rebuilt, and the change is already available to players. The Chapter 1 Rework overhauls how the first stretch of Raspberry Studio’s first-person tactical horror shooter plays, from the way enemies behave to the effects that fire off every time you pull a trigger.

Quick answer: The Chapter 1 Rework is live now on Steam, adding full controller support, new major horror encounters, enemy AI rewritten from the ground up, and brand-new weapon visual effects.

What the Chapter 1 Rework changes

The update focuses on the game’s first chapter rather than adding a new one. The headline changes cover input support, combat feel, and the horror set pieces that punctuate the level.

  • Full controller support with gamepad input
  • New major horror encounters built into the chapter
  • Enemy AI rewritten from the ground up
  • Brand-new weapon visual effects

Controller support was previously listed among the studio’s post-launch plans alongside expanded key rebinding and additional subtitle languages, so its arrival here is a concrete step through that roadmap.

Combat and encounters shown in the launch trailer

The launch trailer runs through the reworked chapter’s mix of gunfights, driving, stealth, and supernatural powers. It opens with first-person exploration through foggy woods, mine tunnels, and ritual effigies before shifting into open combat.

Firefights play out along a foggy forest path against armed human targets, using automatic rifles as the main tool for the outdoor engagements.

Indoor combat covers a lot of ground. There are pistol duels down a pink neon corridor smeared with blood, shotgun and assault rifle exchanges between train cars with explosions, sustained fire across a cavernous rail tunnel, and close-quarters room breaches inside an apartment with heavy destruction. A sniper scope sequence picks off an enemy at an upper window, and hand-to-hand takedowns handle the quiet kills.

Driving breaks up the shooting. One transition moves from a pink-lit backstage room into a first-person night drive through heavy rain and into an illuminated tunnel.

Heavier weapons show up during vehicle defense, with mounted machine gun fire tearing into street targets and armored trucks until they explode. Similar turret work appears elsewhere in the game, including firing a mounted gun from a boat in heavy rain.

The horror side leans into ritual and the supernatural. Creepy figures appear in rooms, hooded cultists gather around blood-stained candle circles near a glowing portal, and one sequence has the player boarding up a doorway with wooden planks. The trailer closes its action on a pyrokinesis moment, with the character’s hands igniting into embers that burst into flame down an abandoned hospital corridor.

The trailer opens with a photosensitivity warning for flashing lights, rapid scene changes, and strobe effects, so viewer discretion is advised.

Where to play and current price

A.A.U. Black Site is available on PC through Steam, where it entered Early Access on May 21, 2026. The game is developed by Raspberry Studio and published by IZilla Games. Its base price is $14.99, and it has been offered with a 30% discount at $10.49.

You play an operative for the covert special-forces unit A.A.U., sent on a secret mission in Serbia that takes a disastrous turn. Set up and cut off, you are left in deserted Uzovnica, fighting to stay alive as the world around you proves unreliable. Two chapters are currently playable: Chapter 1: God’s Chosen (a Demon) and Chapter 2: Guilt Trip. Chapter 3: Beneath the Rotten Sky is planned as the next installment.

How to confirm you have the reworked chapter

Because the rework replaces the existing first chapter rather than shipping as separate content, you get it by updating the game through Steam. Once your copy is on the current version, controller input works natively and the reworked weapon effects appear during combat. If you already own A.A.U. Black Site, launch it after Steam applies the latest patch to start the updated Chapter 1.
