Hidden Cubes are glowing red reward objects scattered across the open world of AION 2. They never appear on the minimap or the world map, so you locate them by exploring and by listening for the faint shimmering hum they give off. Most sit in awkward, high-up places such as cliff edges, narrow ledges, plateaus and floating islands, with a handful tucked underwater. Open one and it drops crafting materials and consumables, with a chance at skins, wings and other cosmetics.
Quick answer: Walk up to a glowing red cube until the F Interact prompt appears, choose Open with Key, wait out the four-second channel, then press F to pick up the loot. Some cubes cannot be opened without a key.
How to open a Hidden Cube

A cube allows only one interaction and vanishes the moment anyone opens it. Whoever gets there first takes it, which is why a marked spot can turn up empty.

Because cubes carry no map marker, two things do the work for you: sound and terrain. Cubes emit a steady shimmering hum that you can hear before you see the cube. Put on headphones, raise sound effects and master volume, and drop the music, monster, ambient and wing-sound channels so the hum is not buried.
Search the edges of the terrain: cubes gather on cliffs, rooftops, mountain ledges, plateau rims and narrow paths branching off the main route. Some sit on rocks in shallow water, so if a sweep over land finds none, check riverbeds and lakeshores too.
Empyrean Trace feathers make a very similar hum. Collect any unclaimed feathers as you pass so their sound stops masking a nearby cube, then keep listening.

Hidden Cube locations by region
Cubes appear only in the open-world field regions, split by faction. Each region has a fixed number of cubes and a much larger pool of possible spots, since any single cube can surface at one of several locations. Verteron holds the most cubes of any region at 95.
| Region | Faction | Hidden cubes | Possible spots |
|---|---|---|---|
| Verteron | Elyos | 95 | 1,440 |
| Altgard | Asmodian | 59 | 1,371 |
| Eltnen | Elyos | 26 | 456 |
| Morheim | Asmodian | 26 | 455 |
Eltnen and Morheim arrived with the Chapter 1 update (levels 45 to 50). They are live in Korea and Taiwan but are not in the global version as of October 2026, so Elyos players search Verteron and Asmodians search Altgard for now. Immortal Isle in Altgard and the cliff perimeters in both large regions are reliable hunting grounds once you have keys in hand.
Keys that open Hidden Cubes
Any of the five key types works on every cube, with one key consumed for each opening; each type stacks up to 100. Use keys with timers before the others, since they disappear once their time runs out. Keys cannot be traded, but the standard Key: Hidden Cube can go into storage or guild storage.
| Key | Notes |
|---|---|
| Permanent; can be stored but not traded. | |
| Bound to your character; from quests, achievements, Monoliths and shops. | |
| Expires 7 days after you receive it. | |
| Expires 10 days after you receive it. | |
| Expires 30 days after you receive it. |
Keys come from quests such as Odyle Collection, Contaminated Area and the Nine Wonders district chains, from achievements, from Verteron and Altgard Monoliths, and from the shops. The AION 2 Season 1 Starter box contains ten keys. The in-game line on the key sums up the trade-off: boosting a cube’s energy with a key yields more valuable rewards, which is why key-only cubes draw from the better pool.
What Hidden Cubes drop
The opening window splits a cube’s loot into common rewards and key-opening rewards, each with its own percentage. Common pulls lean toward materials and consumables you will use constantly.
- Silentium (Bound), a crafting mineral worth 5,000 Kina to vendors and usable for Supply Requests
- Soul Codex (Bound) and Soul Codex: Reset (Bound), for soul binding and resetting bound gear
- Soul Crystals, in batches as large as 1,000
- Small Odyle Energy (Bound), which tops up expedition energy
- Power Shards, Seed of Detection and Life Crystal consumables
Keys are most useful when you’re after less common rewards: wing and earring or necklace skins, including Radiant Love Wings and the Spring Blossom Whisper set; Emote: Kurukuru; Shugo Transformation Candy, which turns you into a Merchant Shugo for 900 seconds; and Lucky Aura (Bound). When combining Common skins, Lucky Aura boosts the chance of a higher-grade result by 10 percent. It comes in Rare, Unique, and Epic versions.
Who Brought the Chest? achievement rewards
Every cube you open counts toward the Who Brought the Chest? achievement line. Each of its seven tiers pays one Key: Hidden Cube (Bound) plus Kina, so opening cubes feeds you more keys to open more cubes. Two tiers also award a title.
| Tier | Cubes opened | Kina | Extra |
|---|---|---|---|
| I | 3 | 4,000 | Key x1 |
| II | 10 | 6,000 | Key x1 |
| III | 30 | 8,000 | Key x1, Title: BLEEP BLOOP BLEEP BLOOP |
| IV | 50 | 10,000 | Key x1 |
| V | 100 | 12,000 | Key x1 unlocks [It’s Okay to Be Imperfect] as a title. |
| VI | 150 | 13,000 | Key x1 |
| VII | 200 | 14,000 | Key x1 |
Opening a cube also feeds the battle pass, where a single open is worth 50 points. Between the achievement keys, the pass progress and the loot itself, a cube hunt stacks three rewards onto what is otherwise a routine exploration detour. Watch your Odyle Energy ceiling while you roam, since you can hold at most 560, or 840 with membership, and Small Odyle Energy from cubes helps you stay topped up for expeditions.
