Evolving a unit in Anime Story 2 is the fastest way to push your Combat Power past a wall, but each evolution demands a specific item, and those items come from very different corners of the game. Some drop from story stages, others sit in raid shops behind a token wall, and a handful only appear during limited events.

How evo items work in Anime Story 2
Every evolvable unit needs two things: a generic star material that scales with the unit's rarity, and usually a unique item tied to that specific character. The generic stars are easy to stockpile through repeatable content, while the character-specific drops force you into a particular farm.
You confirm an evolution worked when the unit's portrait gains a new frame and its name updates (for example, Yono becomes Yono (Fairy), then Yono (Star)). Stats and passives also visibly shift on the unit page.
Generic evo materials
These star items act as a secondary requirement for most evolutions. The rarer the star, the harder the source.
| Material | Rarity | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Green Star | Epic | Daily Challenge, Normal Challenge, Coin Shop |
| Yellow Star | Legendary | Daily Challenge, Normal Challenge, Coin Shop |
| Purple Star | Legendary | Daily Challenge, Normal Challenge, Coin Shop |
| Red Star | Legendary | Daily Challenge, Normal Challenge, Coin Shop |
| Rainbow Star | Mythic | Daily Challenge, Normal Challenge |
| Mythic Orb | Mythic | Daily, Weekly, and Exclusive Quests |
| Secret Orb | Mythic | Daily, Weekly, and Exclusive Quests |
Rainbow Stars are the bottleneck for most high-end evolutions, so prioritize daily Challenge clears even on days you don't plan to play much else.

Story stage evo drops
A handful of evo items drop only from specific story stages. These farms double as decent EXP runs if you have an auto-clear team.
| Item | Evolves | Stage |
|---|---|---|
| Scantron | Vogita → Vogita (Blue) | Green Planet VII |
| Rose | Roku (Black) → Roku (Rose) | Green Planet VII |
| Dawnrender | Pride → Pride (Sun) | Eclipse (World 11) VII |
| Cup of Greed | Greed → Greed (Fox) | Realm Seven V |
Drop rates are not generous on these stages, so expect to run them dozens of times. Stacking a Drops Potion before farming meaningfully shortens the grind.
Raid shop evo items
Most evolution materials for top-tier DPS and support units come from raid shops. You earn raid tokens by clearing the matching raid, then spend them on the item.
| Item | Evolves | Raid Shop | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sangetsu Blade | Reaper → Reaper (Black) | Vastora Realm | 3,000 Hollow Tokens |
| Shirayuki Core | White Lotus → White Lotus (Haze) | Vastora Realm | 2,500 Hollow Tokens |
| Senbonzakura Bloom | Silent Bloom → Silent Bloom (Kageyoshi) | Vastora Realm | 10,000 Hollow Tokens |
| Hogyoku Cloak | Kaizen → Kaizen (Ascended) | Vastora Realm | 10,000 Hollow Tokens |
| Raven Feather | Raven → Raven (Red) | Ember Village | 7,500 Ninja Tokens |
| Guts Sword | Dark Swordsman → Dark Swordsman (Ascended) | The Eclipse | 10,000 Eclipse Tokens |
The 10,000-token items are long-term goals. Vastora Realm is the most important shop to grind first because it gates Kaizen (Ascended), one of the strongest DPS units in the game.

Raid, Tower, and quest drops
A few items skip shops entirely and drop directly from a raid floor, the Tower, or a specific quest chain.
| Item | Evolves | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Egg of Sacrifice | Broken Knight (all forms), Dark Swordsman | The Eclipse Raids Stage 6 |
| Fairy Spirit | Fairy Prince → Yono (Fairy) | Nature Tower |
| Ascended Orbs | Time Emperor → Jolios (King); Yono (Fairy) → Yono (Star) | Tower |
| Asta's Sword | Asota → Asota (Devil) | Exclusive: Lost Swords quest chain |
| Meteor | Dior → Maid Dior | Anime Story 2 Admin Abuse event only |
Ascended Orbs are the only way to chain Yono into its final Star form, so any Tower run is worth completing even if you don't need the floor rewards. The Meteor is limited to Admin Abuse events, meaning Maid Dior is permanently locked outside those windows.

What order to farm in
If you're working through evolutions for the first time, target sources by impact rather than convenience.
Step 1: Clear daily and weekly Challenges every day. This builds a steady Rainbow Star and Mythic/Secret Orb reserve that almost every evolution eventually needs.

Step 2: Push Vastora Realm raids until you can afford Hogyoku Cloak for Kaizen (Ascended). This single evolution gives you a meta-tier DPS that speeds up every other farm.
Step 3: Run the Tower regularly for Ascended Orbs. They unlock Jolios (King) and the final Yono evolution, both of which carry Tower and end-game story content.
Step 4: Farm targeted Story Stage VII runs only when you have the specific unit ready to evolve, since the drops have no other use.

Why an evolution might not trigger
If the Evolve button stays greyed out, one of the following is the cause:
- The unit is not at the required level cap for its current form.
- You are missing the generic star material (often a Rainbow Star or a specific colored Star).
- The character-specific item is in your inventory but tied to a different variant of the unit (for example, Rose only works on Roku Black, not Roku Blue).
- The unit needs to be ascended first before the next evolution tier becomes available.
Hover the requirement list on the evolution screen to see exactly which item is short. The game shows the missing quantity in red, which removes any guesswork.
Stack Drops Potions before any Story Stage VII or raid run, keep Challenges on a daily streak, and prioritize Vastora Realm tokens early. That covers the majority of meaningful evolutions in the current patch without wasting runs on materials you won't use.
