An Ill Wind's Fortune is a Wandering Tales side quest in the Hexi region of Where Winds Meet, tied to Brokegate Village in Huayin North south of Qinchuan Path. The quest sends you to investigate hidden gold at Five Peaks Inn (Wuling Inn), expose a swordsman who has taken over the property, and return the dead innkeeper's stash to a struggling noodle shop.

Where to start the quest
The quest begins at the noodle shop in Brokegate Village, the settlement directly south of Qinchuan Path in Hexi. He Ku and He Bi sit on the porch and only spawn during daylight, so set the in‑game clock to the Chen hour before approaching. They explain the shop is close to shutting down and ask you to recover gold rumored to be hidden at Five Peaks Inn.

Walkthrough
Step 1: Travel to Brokegate Village in Huayin North and change the time to the Chen hour. Approach the noodle shop porch and speak with He Ku and He Bi, then agree to look into the rumor of hidden gold at Five Peaks Inn.

Step 2: Fast travel to the Brokegate Village Boundary Stone and enter Five Peaks Inn directly ahead. The innkeeper Ping Wuzhang only appears during the day from the Chen hour. Speak with him; he will say the inn serves only wine, no food.
Step 3: Open the time wheel and advance to the Xu hour, then leave the inn. A second man, also calling himself Ping Wuzhang, will block your path outside. Defeat him in combat to unlock the achievement An Eye for an Eye, which awards 5 Echo Jade.

Step 4: Examine the swordsman's body on the ground in front of the inn. The inspection confirms he murdered the real innkeeper and took over the property.
Step 5: Walk around to the back of the inn and find the well sealed by black thorny vines. Equip your bow, switch to fire arrows, and burn the vines off the wellhead. Climb down the ladder.

Step 6: In the corridor at the bottom, push open the heavy door. Inside the chamber, take the Secret Letter from the table to confirm the swordsman was an impostor sent by the Longwu Army. Examine the body on the couch to receive Ping Wuzhang's Stash, and open the chests in the room before leaving.
Step 7: Return to the noodle shop in Brokegate Village. He Ku and He Bi will be standing on the left side of the building. Hand over Ping Wuzhang's Stash.

Step 8: The pair will go inside to report to He Kongshan, the shop's owner. Move close enough to eavesdrop on their conversation to close out the quest.
How to verify completion
The quest closes after you eavesdrop on He Kongshan and his two helpers inside the noodle shop. The reward summary appears on screen, and the entry shifts to Completed under the Wandering Tales menu. The An Eye for an Eye achievement registers earlier, the moment you defeat the false Ping Wuzhang outside the inn.

Common reasons the quest does not progress
- He Ku and He Bi are missing because the clock is not set to the Chen hour. They only spawn during daylight.
- The original Ping Wuzhang inside the inn does not appear because the time is wrong; he also requires the Chen hour or later daytime.
- The impostor fight does not trigger because the time is not yet the Xu hour. The encounter is gated to that window.
- The well behind the inn cannot be opened with melee or standard arrows. Only fire arrows clear the vines.
Stick to the day-to-night swap between Chen and Xu hours, keep fire arrows ready before approaching the well, and the quest resolves in a single run without backtracking to other regions.
