The golden Mountain Woods forms of Helmut and Rookey do not appear in the open world by default. They are gated behind a hidden encounter in Russet Highlands, and once you clear it the whole regional line opens up. Rookey can then be caught in the wild or evolved from a Helmut you have already raised.
Quick answer: Clear the Secret of the Golden Helmet in Russet Highlands using an Aniimo with the Cloak skill. Both golden forms then spawn nearby to catch, or you can evolve a Lv. 45 Mountain Woods Helmut instead.
What you need before starting
The encounter revolves around sneaking a hidden helmet away from a group of guarding Helmuts. To reach it undetected you need one specific ability on your team.
- An Aniimo with the Cloak skill for invisibility. Wisptis works well here.
- Capture items ready to go. An Anipod Pro is used to secure the Lv. 53 Helmut.
- Access to Russet Highlands, west of First Sight Sanctum near the Berylline Vale border, around map coordinates -0619, 1604.
Complete the Secret of the Golden Helmet
This is an unmarked side quest, so there is no objective pin to follow. Head to the cluster of Helmuts guarding a central golden helmet and take it without being spotted.
Catch Mountain Woods Rookey in the wild
Once the Secret of the Golden Helmet is cleared, the region changes. Mountain Woods Rookey and extra wild Helmuts begin spawning around the quest area, and the wild Rookey needs no further hidden quest to appear.
After unlocking them, you may still encounter regular Helmut or Rookey forms. Check that an appearance is golden before using valuable capture items, so you don’t waste them on a standard one.
Evolve a Mountain Woods Helmut into Rookey
If you would rather keep a specific Helmut and its traits, you can evolve it instead of catching a wild Rookey. This is the defensive counter branch, and it splits away from the Pawney route.
- Raise the Mountain Woods Helmut to Lv. 45.
- Unlock Unwavering Rampart, the passive talent.
- Defeat an opponent by dealing the finishing damage with the Ballistic Guard counter in defense mode.
- Pay the evolution cost of Night Stone x3.
The counter requirement is the tricky part. Simply activating Ballistic Guard is not enough; the shockwave damage from the counter has to land the killing blow. Fight an aggressive wild Aniimo such as Thornblade with a type-advantaged partner, bring it to critical health, then switch to your Helmut and let the Ballistic Guard shockwave finish it off.
If the evolution screen won’t advance, verify that the passive and finishing counter are recorded on the same Helmut you’re evolving. A different Helmut’s progress won’t meet a requirement specific to that creature.
One Helmut cannot evolve into both golden forms. Rookey uses the counter route; Pawney requires the Sword of Bravery. To get both, raise or catch multiple Mountain Woods Helmuts.

Rookey (Mountain Woods Form) is a Nova stage, Dark element Aniimo in the BREAK role. It weighs 18 kg and stands 1.5 m tall, and it evolves directly from the Mountain Woods Helmut.

It is strong against Light, Lightning, and Grass, resists Earth, and is weak to Light and Wind. Its Ballistic Guard turns it into a ball that jumps and lands for damage, then raises its own damage reduction by 20% while boosting interruption resistance and releasing a shockwave worth 10 Might when hit. Catching or evolving it also grants a Growth Flower (2) release reward.
How to confirm it worked
When the Secret of the Golden Helmet triggers correctly, a prompt calls out the Mountain Woods Form Helmut and tells you to catch it. After you do, the region’s spawns change and Rookey becomes visible on the habitat map. A successful capture registers Rookey as No. 063 in your Aniilog, and the collection screen shows Rookey Special Form progress with the Collaboration Ability Level rising by one. If you searched the fields before clearing the encounter and found nothing, the unlock had not yet been enabled on your account.
