Random emergencies pop up during your shifts in Animal Hospital, and each one runs on its own timer. Miss the deadline and you lose the patient locked to that event, along with a chunk of Sanity. There are seven emergency types in total, plus an Ambulance Event that can drop a critical patient into the mix.
Quick answer: Match each emergency to its fix before the timer ends. Use a fire extinguisher on fires and burning patients, carry fainted patients to their bed, end the death ritual by tasing the patient or snuffing all seven candles, free or feed the Bed Monster, finish the surgery mini-game for the Purple Monster, and check in plus treat any critical Ambulance patient within 120 seconds.
All Animal Hospital emergencies and their fixes
Here is every emergency with its solution and time limit. The sections below break down the trickier ones, including where to find the tools you need.
| Emergency | How to solve it | Timer |
|---|---|---|
| Fire breakout | Use a fire extinguisher on the burning room (hands work but are slow and cost Sanity) | Not timed |
| Patient on fire | Put out the fire with an extinguisher; if you use hands, treat the burns with ointment | 60 seconds |
| Fainted patient | Pick the patient up and place them on their designated bed | 60 seconds |
| Death ritual | Tase the patient, or put out all seven candles | 40 seconds |
| Bed Monster | Interact with the patient to break them free, or feed the monster maple syrup | 30 seconds |
| Purple Monster | Complete the surgery mini-game in Room 8 | 45 seconds |
| Critical patient (Ambulance Event) | Check in and treat the patient | 120 seconds |

A room can catch fire before or after a patient checks in. The fire itself is not on a timer, but you should deal with it fast because you cannot treat the patient while the room burns, and standing close to the flames drains your Sanity.
You have two options. A fire extinguisher is the faster, safer choice. Using your hands works too, but it takes much longer and costs 1 Sanity per second since you have to stand right next to the flames.
Note: If a patient walks into a room that is already on fire, they faint instantly. When that happens, place the patient on the bed first, then put out the fire.

Save a patient who is on fire
When the patient themselves is burning, you have 60 seconds to put the fire out. With a fire extinguisher, the patient heals instantly and needs no follow-up care. If you use your hands instead, they suffer burns that you must treat with an ointment, and that extra care also has to be done within 60 seconds or the patient dies.
Where to get the fire extinguisher
The fire extinguisher is free and unlocks after you finish 2 shifts. From the third shift onward, you will find it to the right of the Supplies Shop. It uses a charge meter, so when it hits 0%, return it to its original spot and it recharges back to 100%.
Save a fainted patient
A patient can faint at the check-in window or when they walk into a burning room. Either way, the fix is the same. Pick the patient up and carry them to their designated bed within 60 seconds. Once they are on the bed, continue their treatment as normal. Miss the window and the patient dies.

Stop the death ritual
Sometimes you will walk into a room and find the patient floating in the air, surrounded by seven lit candles on the floor. This is the death ritual, and you have 40 seconds to stop it. There are two ways to do it.
- Put out all the candles by walking up to each one. Every candle you snuff out costs 1 to 3 Sanity points.
- Tase the patient. If you have a taser ready, using it on the patient ends the ritual instantly.
Once the ritual is halted, the patient drops back onto their bed and you can resume treatment.

Where to get a taser
The taser is free and becomes available at the start of the third shift. You will find it inside the Reception, and it works once per charge. When it runs dry, drop it back into the box to recharge. You can also buy tasers with multiple charges from the Supplies Shop.
Beat the Bed Monster
The Bed Monster can show up in any room and grab a patient while they are on the bed, walking in, or walking out. As it drags the patient under the bed, get close and interact with the patient to help them break free. You have 30 seconds before the monster eats them.
The Bed Monster also attacks you and any anomalies that come too close. To keep it from attacking, give it maple syrup. Equip the maple syrup, walk up to the monster, and it will take the syrup and vanish without harming you or the patient.

Beat the Purple Monster in surgery
The Purple Monster appears in Room 8, the surgery room, and starts eating away at your patient. To save them, complete the surgery mini-game within 45 seconds. The blackboard behind the bed lists every step of the surgery, so work through it quickly. When you finish, the monster disappears and you can carry on with treatment.
Note: Do not tase or shoot the Purple Monster. It is directly connected to the patient, so harming the monster kills the patient.

Handle the Ambulance Event critical patient
The Ambulance Event floods the hospital with six to seven patients at once. Among them you will sometimes spot a critical patient. Prioritize that one. Check them in and finish their treatment or surgery within 120 seconds, or they die. Solve each emergency by its correct action before the timer expires and you will keep your patients alive and your Sanity intact through every shift.
