The Firefighter is one of the newer additions to the roster of classes in Animal Hospital, arriving alongside a slime anomaly in a major content update. It leans on utility rather than raw stats, handing you a Fire Extinguisher the moment your shift starts so you can douse the fires that spark up around the hospital during emergencies. Unlike the Doctor or Psychologist, it puts a tool in your hands instead of only tweaking your Sanity meter.
Quick answer: Buy the Firefighter from the Class Shop in the lobby for 1100 Animal Coins. It spawns with a Fire Extinguisher and +1 max inventory slot at Level 1, and you upgrade it by earning EXP during shifts.

How to unlock the Firefighter class
The Firefighter is bought with Animal Coins, the game’s main currency, from the Class Shop. You can reach the shop on the left side of the lobby or by walking into the large yellow circle next to the ambulance near the spawn point. At 1100 Animal Coins, it sits above the Doctor and Psychologist in price, both of which give no starter item and only affect Sanity.
There are a few ways to build up the coins you need for the purchase.
| Method | How it works |
|---|---|
| Complete shifts | Coins are paid out at the end of a shift, and your performance grade decides how many you receive. |
| Shopkeeper Nurse | Her shop opens after almost every shift once you pass Shift 3. The “1 to 3 Animal Coins” item costs 100 Cash. |
| Animal Coin packs | The in-game store sells coin packs for Robux, up to a 3250-coin pack priced at 1590 Robux. |
You can grind coins solo or in a team of up to three players. Grades that reward more coins come from treating patients, correctly identifying anomalies, and keeping your Sanity from bottoming out.

Once equipped, the Firefighter can be upgraded to Level 3 with EXP earned during play. You gain EXP by checking in and healing patients across your shifts. Reaching Level 2 takes 200 EXP. The class carries a Moderate Sanity rating and a High Utility rating, with no starter money.
| Level | Perk |
|---|---|
| 1 | Start with a Fire Extinguisher and +1 max inventory capacity. |
| 2 | Recover 1 Sanity when putting out fires. |
| 3 | Immune to Sanity drain from fires, plus +10 bonus Sanity. |
The extra inventory slot at Level 1 stacks on top of the game’s default three-item cap for treatment supplies, giving you more room before you have to run back for medicine. The Fire Extinguisher lands in your hotbar automatically, so you never have to buy one at the start of a round.

How the Firefighter plays
Fires can break out during room emergencies, and the Firefighter is built to shut them down fast. Because you already carry an extinguisher, you can respond without scrambling for a tool first. At Level 2, every fire you put out returns 1 Sanity, and at Level 3 the fires themselves stop draining your Sanity at all.
The extinguisher has uses beyond fires too. You can clear slime around the hospital with it, and it scares off certain anomalies such as the Hiders, which saves ammunition for classes that rely on guns or tasers. You are not limited to the extinguisher you spawn with, so you can grab more if needed.
Is the Firefighter worth buying?
The Firefighter’s value is situational. Its Sanity gains only trigger when a fire is actually burning, and the +10 bonus Sanity it grants at Level 3 is modest next to what the Doctor and Secret Agent offer. If your shifts do not throw many fire emergencies at you, the class spends most of its time doing very little.
If you mainly want to experience the extinguisher gameplay or fill a dedicated fire-response role in a team, the Firefighter fits. For steadier, all-round performance, the Doctor, Surgeon, or Head Nurse are stronger picks, since they lean more heavily into Sanity recovery and inventory space that pay off in every round rather than only during emergencies.
