Anime Story 2 Secret Bosses: Locations, Drops, and Stage Access

Secret bosses in Anime Story 2 are hidden encounters tucked behind specific story stages, and they exist mainly as a chase for rare unit drops, Diamonds, Coins, and EXP. As of Update 1.0, there are four of them spread across the worlds, and each one sits behind a Stage VIII portal you only see once the main world is cleared.

⚔️
Quick answer: The four current secret bosses are Black Bull (World 1), Jolios/King (World 4), Battle Maniac (World 6), and the 23rd Magic Emperor (World 10). Each has a small chance to drop itself as a unit, with shiny rates roughly 10x rarer than the standard version.

How secret boss stages work

Each secret boss lives in a Stage VIII encounter inside a world's story map. Stage VIII does not appear on the world selection until you have cleared the regular stages of that world, and the fight functions like a single-stage raid rather than a multi-wave run.

Drops are rolled per clear, so the unit version is gated by repeated runs rather than any guaranteed pity. There is no shared pity timer between the secret bosses, which means each one needs to be farmed individually if you want every unit.

Note: Stage VIII clears also feed into the "Lost Swords" exclusive questline introduced with the Black Clover content update, including takedown counters and evolution checks for Yuno and Julius.

The 23rd Magic Emperor sits at the top of the chase list because it is the only Exclusive-tier drop among the four, with the highest base unit rate. Black Bull is the easiest to access early since it is gated behind World 1, which most accounts can clear within the first few sessions.

Black Bull - World 1 (Green Planet)

Black Bull is the first secret boss you can reach. After clearing the standard Green Planet stages, the Stage VIII portal opens up on the world map. Its passive on the unit version reads: while in slot 1, Captain-class allies gain 15% Crit.

This is the cheapest farm in terms of stamina cost per attempt, which makes it the natural starting point if you are still building a core team and want extra Mythic pulls for the Captain synergy.

Jolios (King) - World 4 (Titan City)

Jolios is the Ascended version of the King unit and drops from the Titan City Stage VIII encounter. The on-field passive grants King-class allies 20% Crit Damage when Jolios is placed in slot 1, which is one of the most useful slot-1 leader effects for crit-focused teams.

Because Ascended units have stricter evolution requirements, the raw unit drop here doubles as a head start on the Lost Swords questline's "Julios Ascended" objective.

Battle Maniac - World 6

Battle Maniac is a Mythic-rarity secret boss in World 6. Its passive is straightforward and strong: this unit always attacks first. That single-line effect makes it valuable in Tower runs and any stage where opening damage decides the encounter.

The drop is a Mythic, so its shiny chance follows the same scale as Black Bull rather than the Exclusive tier, putting it in the mid-difficulty bracket for completionists.

23rd Magic Emperor - World 10 (Magic Kingdom)

The 23rd Magic Emperor is the standout drop from the Magic Kingdom Stage VIII fight. It carries the Exclusive tag, the highest unit tier currently attached to a secret boss, and has the most generous base drop rate of the four at 2.5%, with a 0.25% shiny rate.

Magic Kingdom Stage VII also drops the Pink Shard added in the Black Clover update, so running this world doubles as relic crafting fuel while you take attempts at the secret boss.

Common drops across secret boss stages

Outside the rare unit drops, each secret boss fight pays out a baseline of resources you keep regardless of whether the unit rolls. Expect Diamonds, large Coin rewards scaled to the world, and EXP for both your account and equipped units.

Unit drops are the primary chase. Everything else is treated as consolation currency for the runs that do not roll the boss as a pull.

How to verify a successful unit drop

Step 1: Finish the Stage VIII fight and watch the post-clear reward screen. If the boss rolls as a unit, you will see it listed in the rewards alongside the standard Diamonds and Coins.

Step 2: Open the Units menu from the lobby. The new pull should appear in your inventory immediately, and shiny versions are flagged with a separate visual indicator on the unit card.

Step 3: Check the Index entry for the unit. The passive description and rarity tag (Mythic, Ascended, or Exclusive) should match the table above. If the Index entry is grayed out, the unit did not drop.

Tips for farming secret bosses

Run consumables before long sessions. Drops potions and Luck potions stack with the base drop rate, and the difference is meaningful when the unit chance is under 3%. Coins potions are only worth using if you are short on upgrade currency.

Build for clear speed, not survival. Secret boss stages are short fights, so a high-damage carry like Roku (Ultra) or a crit-stacked Mythic with the Ethereal or Monarch trait will finish runs faster than a balanced team. More clears per hour scales drop rate better than any potion.

Save Trait Tokens until your secret boss unit lands. Rerolling traits on a unit you do not yet own is wasted resource, and the top-end traits, Monarch in particular, are gated behind low roll percentages.

23rd Magic EmperorExclusive-tier secret boss drop (Magic Kingdom)

If you are building a Captain-synergy team, Black Bull is the slot-1 anchor. King teams want Jolios in that same position, and Battle Maniac fits any composition that benefits from an opening hit, especially Tower runs where the first turn often decides whether a floor is clearable.

The current secret boss roster is small, but each one ties directly into a meta team archetype, which is why these Stage VIII fights are worth grinding even after the initial unit pull. The Black Clover update added the Pink Shard drop and the Lost Swords questline alongside these encounters, so progress carries over into evolution materials and exclusive quest rewards.
