Anime Vanguards: How to Roll the 0.1% Monarch Trait on Jotaro

Monarch is a 1-in-1,000 trait with a 1,500-reroll pity, and Star Crusader's extra placement offsets its one-placement penalty.

Jotaro shows up in Anime Vanguards as Star Crusader (Platinum), and the version everyone is chasing is the one wearing Monarch. Monarch is not a unit, a skin, or a drop. It is the rarest trait in the game, and the only way to put it on Jotaro is to feed Trait Rerolls into him until the roll hits or the pity counter runs out.

Quick answer: Take Star Crusader (Platinum) to the Mandra (Traits) NPC and spend Trait Rerolls on that unit until Monarch appears — 0.1% per roll, or guaranteed once you hit 1,500 rerolls on him.

Monarch trait odds, pity, and stat changes

Monarch is a mythic trait with the lowest listed chance in the pool. It hands out a huge damage number and then takes something real away in return.

Chance per reroll0.1% (1 in 1,000)
Pity1,500 Trait Rerolls

SPA-10%

Pity is tracked separately for every unit, and you can watch the counter live in the Trait Index menu. Evolving a unit, normalizing it, or running a stat transfer does not wipe that progress, so rerolls you have already sunk into Jotaro stay counted.

For budgeting, it helps to see where Monarch sits against the other mythic traits, because every roll you spend chasing it is a roll you are not spending elsewhere.

Why the one-placement penalty barely hurts Jotaro

Monarch normally punishes units that want several copies on the board. Jotaro dodges most of that. At upgrade 4, his kit lets you drop a separate Star Platinum unit, and that stand is granted even when your placement slots are already full.

Star Platinum copies Jotaro’s stats, deals 150% of his damage, and applies his direct effects. So a single Monarch Jotaro still ends up with two things attacking, one of them riding the +300% damage boost through the copied stats.

Stock Trait Rerolls before you touch the trait menu

Do not open the reroll screen with a thin stash. Trait Rerolls come from codes, Challenge completions, event shops, Achievements, level milestone rewards, and battle pass tiers, and you want all of those claimed before the first roll.

These codes have paid out reroll-related rewards. Codes rotate out quickly, so redeem them first and accept whatever the game still honors.

Note: a lucky account can land Monarch in roughly 400 rolls, but that is variance, not a target. Plan around the 1,500 pity number and decide up front whether Jotaro deserves that much of your account’s resources.

Roll Monarch onto Star Crusader (Platinum)

Claim Star Crusader (Platinum). He arrived alongside the Persona collab units, new familiars, and new memorias, and the unit unlocks through the Battle Pass tiers. Buying the pass bundle for 6,000 Robux claims all 50 tiers at once and hands over both the unit and the Want Some Memoria.
Open the unit menu and select the Star Crusader (Platinum) copy you intend to build. Skins like the white-and-gold variant are cosmetic only, so pick whichever you prefer and move on.
Take that unit to the Mandra (Traits) NPC and open the trait reroll interface. One Trait Reroll rerolls a trait on any unit, and each new roll overwrites whatever trait is currently sitting there.
Keep rolling on Jotaro, manually or with auto-reroll, until the Monarch confirmation popup appears. The moment it lands, stop. Any additional roll wipes it.

Finish the build: stats, level 60, and the Want Some Memoria

Monarch is only the first half. Head to the Manipulator NPC and burn Stat Chips rolling Jotaro’s stats, aiming for strong damage, range, and SPA lines. If a better line is sitting on a unit you do not care about, use Stat Transfer to move it across rather than rolling forever.

Then level him. Feed upgrade items to push Star Crusader (Platinum) to Level 60, and use a Memoria Leveling Ticket to max out the Want Some Memoria in one go.

Want Some is the Memoria that matches the kit. Attacks coming from a placement beyond the initial one gain 50% more damage, and time stop can also apply nullify. Memoria traits reroll separately using Memoria Shards, and Divinity is the target there.

What Monarch Jotaro does on the board

Jotaro’s value is control stacked on top of burst, not a big DPS number. Time stop, stun, slow, damage amplification, and overshield bypass all come from the same unit.

AbilityEffect
Just In TimeOn first placement each match, stops enemies and units for 5 seconds and deals 300% final upgraded damage to the highest-HP enemy in range.
Basic attacks2 seconds of stun; every third hit on the same enemy applies 5 seconds of time stop instead.
Time stop lockoutAffected enemies are slowed 50% and take 30% more damage, and can grant Jotaro a 100% damage buff for 30 seconds.
Star PlatinumExtra placement even when slots are full; copies his stats, deals 150% of his damage, applies his direct effects.
Star Platinum follow-upAfter Jotaro’s attack three, the stand follows with attack two for 50% more damage; bypasses overshield and applies 50% slow for 10 seconds.
Time stop active60-second cooldown; stops all enemies for 5 seconds, bypasses lockout, deals 500% damage in range.
Beat Down60-second cooldown; 1,000% damage to the highest-HP enemy, plus 50% more if that enemy is on time stop lockout.
BarrageThe main unit stops attacking while the extra placement attacks rapidly — situational, not a permanent DPS gain.

Confirm the build works in Sandbox

The fastest sanity check is Sandbox. Place Jotaro, upgrade him to 4 so the Star Platinum placement unlocks, then open the enemy spawner and search for Vogita to drop in a custom boss with a fixed HP pool. A 20,000 HP target is enough to compare dual attacking against stand-only output.

Ability cutscenes will interrupt your reads. If you want clean numbers, open Settings, search for “cut,” and drop the Cutscene Tracks slider to 0% while leaving Unit Cutscenes on.

You know Monarch is locked in when the trait appears on the unit card and the placement limit on his stat panel reads 1. The in-game DPS readout swings around during testing, so judge the unit by whether time stop, stun, slow, and the Star Platinum placement all fire, not by a single number.

Common Monarch reroll mistakes

  • Rolling one extra time after Monarch lands. The new trait overwrites it and the pity counter starts over.
  • Spreading rerolls across filler units. Pity is per unit, so scattered rolls never build toward anything.
  • Expecting a fast hit. Hundreds of rerolls disappearing with nothing to show is the normal experience at 0.1%.
  • Counting on old codes still being live. Redeem what works, then start rolling with the stash you actually have.

The honest calculation is simple. Monarch on Jotaro is worth it because his kit already provides control, and the stand placement sidesteps the trait’s biggest drawback. If your reroll stash cannot realistically reach the pity ceiling, spend it on Ethereal or Deadeye targets instead and come back to Jotaro when the stash is deep enough to see it through.
