XLGAMES opened the first public demo of ArcheAge Chronicles with a short cinematic. In it, a wounded warrior is cornered in a burning settlement, mocked, and kicked off a cliff into the sea. The trailer itself is only about a minute long. The demo it advertises is a free, time-limited build on Steam, and it is the first look most players will get at the successor to the original ArcheAge, whose western servers shut down in 2024.
Quick answer: The demo is free for any Steam user from October 19, 10AM PDT, until October 26, 10AM PDT. No registration is needed. Early Access remains undated, with Q4 2026 as the target.
What the ArcheAge Chronicles demo trailer shows
The trailer contains no gameplay. It is a pre-rendered story sequence that sets up a revenge plot. A white-haired warrior crashes down through tree branches and lands in the mud in front of a burning building. A long-haired man in a dark, fur-collared coat walks up to him, pulls out a dagger, and leans in to taunt him.

There are only two lines of dialogue, shown as on-screen captions: “Save the righteous stare” and “Begging would’ve been wiser.” A white-haired man with facial scars then plants a boot and sends the fallen warrior over a ledge. The camera follows the victim underwater in first person, bubbles rising as he sinks, before the title card forms out of dark smoke.

The final card shows a white-haired rogue holding two daggers, next to the Steam Next Fest logo and the line “PLAY DEMO NOW.” Both characters are fixed story figures, not player-made avatars. The setup fits the Steam store pitch, which promises mystery characters “each with their own secrets and goals” around a catastrophic airship crash in Auroria.
What’s in the ArcheAge Chronicles Steam Next Fest demo
The demo is a narrow slice of a game built around open-world trading and housing. Most of what made ArcheAge distinctive is not included this time. The demo is focused on combat:
- One region: Diamond Shores, the early-game area
- Four playable classes
- A new dungeon
- PvP, which appears in a public build for the first time
- No housing and no trade life skills
Combat is action-based. You jump, roll, dash, block, and parry, and you can choose melee, ranged, or magic styles. The demo is listed on the ArcheAge Chronicles Steam page, where the Download Demo button installs it. Any Steam account can download it during the festival window, in any region. Before this, the only public test was a server-load network test for US and Canada players on September 12–13, and entry was drawn at random.
The game uses XIGNCODE3, a kernel-level anti-cheat, and you must accept a third-party EULA before playing.
Demo vs. Early Access: What changes
The demo is not Early Access, and it does not turn into Early Access. The paid release is planned to cover much more ground:
| Feature | Next Fest demo | Early Access |
|---|---|---|
| Regions | Diamond Shores | Diamond Shores, Gylden Ruins, Astron Plains |
| Classes | Four | Four, two weapons each |
| PvP | Yes | Yes |
| Housing and trading | No | Yes |
| Raids, guilds, companies | Not listed | Yes |
| Cost | Free | Buy-to-play, price TBA |
XLGAMES expects Early Access to last roughly nine to 12 months. Over that period it plans to add more regions, a third weapon for each class, more gender options for classes (starting with select classes), party channels, and expanded life skills. The studio says the price may change at full release and that any change will be announced in advance.
ArcheAge Chronicles release date, price, and platforms
The release date has moved several times. It was first set for 2025, then 2026, then the first half of 2026, then Q3, and now Q4 2026. In August, Kakao Games’ earnings also changed the Q4 plan from a full launch to Steam Early Access, and publishing went back to XLGAMES. The Steam page still lists the release date as “To be announced.” The status of each piece today:
- Release: Steam Early Access in Q4 2026, with no confirmed date
- Business model: Pay once to play, with no in-game shop when Early Access begins
- Price: not announced
- Platforms: PC first; PlayStation and Xbox store listings exist, but there is no console date
- Publisher: XLGAMES, which is publishing the game itself
- Languages on Steam: English, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese text; full voice audio in Korean only
XLGAMES says it will not sell items that give players a pay-to-win advantage. Optional purchases could be added later for content, customization, or convenience. This pledge matters especially for the series, since monetization in the original game drove many players away.
In September, producer Yongjin Ham described the Early Access timing as “sooner than players might expect,” but left the date unspecified. Until XLGAMES announces a date, Next Fest week remains the only chance to play. Once the demo ends on October 26, players will have to wait again.
