Batman Knightfall Part 2: Knightquest Release Window (2026)

Warner Bros. Animation has locked a 2026 debut for Azrael's turn as Batman, with the trilogy's finale set for 2027.

Warner Bros. Animation has locked a 2026 debut for Azrael’s turn as Batman, with the trilogy’s finale set for 2027.

The middle chapter of the animated Batman: Knightfall trilogy picks up after Bane leaves Bruce Wayne broken and unable to patrol Gotham. With the city sliding into open crime, Bruce hands the cape and cowl to Jean-Paul Valley, and Valley’s harsher, more lethal version of Batman drives the whole second act. Here is where the release stands, what the story covers, and who is behind it.

Quick answer: Knightquest is confirmed for release in 2026, with no exact date announced yet. The finale, KnightsEnd, follows in 2027.

Batman: Knightfall Part 2 release window

Warner Bros. Animation and DC have confirmed Part 2: Knightquest for a 2026 digital release, while Part 3: KnightsEnd is slated for 2027. A precise date for the second film has not been locked in. The studios have kept the timing loose, treating later in 2026 as the realistic window so each installment lands with its own marketing push.

For reference, the 2026 Annecy International Animation Film Festival hosted the premiere of Part 1: Knightfall on June 23, 2026. Digital purchase followed on August 25, 2026, and physical editions—Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K UHD—arrived on September 8, 2026. This release timing follows the original comic arc’s publication, which unfolded over several months in the early 1990s.

The trailer closes on a “COMING SOON” card rather than a firm date, so treat any specific day circulating online as an estimate until Warner Bros. confirms it.

What Knightquest covers

The story begins with Bruce Wayne incapacitated after Bane fractures his spine and hurls him from the roof of GCPD headquarters. Confined to recovery, Bruce cannot defend Gotham as masked criminals, released convicts, and Two-Face turn the streets into chaos under Bane’s shadow.

Rather than passing the mantle to Dick Grayson (Nightwing), Bruce chooses Jean-Paul Valley, also known as Azrael, to become the next Batman. Valley promises not to let Bruce down, but his idea of justice quickly turns brutal. He beats criminals such as Tweedledum and Tweedledee well past the point of stopping them, prompting Tim Drake (Robin) to confront him with the line, “You could have killed him!”

The new Batman fights through a run of Gotham rogues as crime keeps escalating, including Scarecrow and the Mad Hatter. The trilogy carries an adult rating to match the harshness of the source comics, so these clashes lean into the ruthlessness that defines Valley’s tenure.

The armored AzBats suit and the Bane rematch

The film’s signature turn is Valley building his own armored batsuit. The design swaps Bruce’s classic look for blue-and-gold plating, wing-like cape structures, metallic gauntlet claws, and glowing red eyes, the version longtime readers know as “AzBats.”

The trailer builds to Bane re-emerging on Gotham’s rooftops to face the new Batman, with Valley charging straight at him in the upgraded armor. That confrontation sets up the emotional question the trilogy keeps circling, which is who is truly fit to wear the mantle, a thread that carries into the finale.

How Knightquest fits the trilogy

The films adapt the “Knightfall” saga first published across 1993 and 1994, one of the longest Batman arcs ever told at roughly 119 issues split into three parts: Knightfall, Knightquest, and KnightsEnd. Part 1 covered Bane emptying Arkham Asylum and grinding Batman down to his breaking point.

With Knightquest handling Valley’s descent into a darker cowl, the trilogy will close with Part 3: KnightsEnd in 2027, where the question of who deserves to be Batman comes to a head. Until Warner Bros. confirms an exact day, the second film’s release remains pinned to 2026.
