Big Walk: How to Solve the Yellow and White Seaside Counting Puzzle

Split two players across the bay, count the flashing faces, and turn the total into asterisk, triangle, and slash tiles.

Split two players across the bay, count the flashing faces, and turn the total into asterisk, triangle, and slash tiles.

The yellow and white seaside puzzle in Big Walk is a two-player counting task split across a bay. One player counts flashing faces inside the yellow and white cliff building and builds that number on a symbol board. The second player reads the board through a telescope in the yellow building on the opposite cliff and enters the number to trigger the reward.

Quick answer: Press the green button on the red pedestal, count every face that flashes on the blue grid, then build the total on the top row of the symbol board using asterisk = 10, triangle = 5, and slash = 1. Send the board to the roof, read it through the telescope across the bay, set the blue dial to that number, and press the yellow button.

What you need before starting

This puzzle cannot be solved alone. It uses two buildings on opposite sides of a bay, and each player owns one of them for the whole attempt.

  • Transmitter player: stays inside the yellow and white building on the cliff, counts the faces, and configures the symbol board.
  • Receiver player: stays in the yellow building on the opposite cliff, reads the board through the telescope, and inputs the number.

Because the two buildings sit across the water from each other, the telescope is the only reliable way to pass the number unless the group is using a walkie-talkie or megaphone.

Symbol tile values

The symbol board on the upper platform uses three tile types. Learn these values before you start, because the enclosed room blocks normal talking once you begin.

TileSymbolValue
Asterisk*10
TriangleΔ5
Diagonal line/1

The board has two rows. Tiles placed on the top row are added together. Tiles placed on the bottom row are subtracted from the total.

Transmitter side: count the faces and build the number

Enter the yellow and white building on the cliff and go to the counting room. You will see a 3×4 blue grid of lights and a red pedestal with a green button.

Press the green button on the red pedestal. Faces begin flashing across the blue grid. Count every single face until the grid stops and the lights turn off.
Do not stop counting after the first pause. More faces can appear after an early cluster, so wait for the full sequence to finish before trusting your total.
Climb to the upper platform with the symbol board. Build your total on the top row. For a count of 16, place one asterisk, one triangle, and one diagonal line (10 + 5 + 1).
Press the wall button. The symbol board rises to the roof, where it becomes visible from across the bay.

Receiver side: read the board and enter the number

Move to the yellow receiver building on the opposite cliff. Find the telescope inside and aim it at the raised board across the water.
Read the tiles and work out the value. Add the top row, then subtract the bottom row if any tiles are placed there.
Set the blue dial to that number. For the 16 example, dial 16.
Press the yellow button. The receiver counts up to your entered number.

Using subtraction for larger numbers

The bottom row lets you reach awkward totals with fewer tiles. To represent 18, place two asterisks and three diagonal lines on the top row, then one triangle on the bottom row. That works out to 20 + 3 − 5 = 18.

Before entering any number, the receiver player can use the telescope to confirm the board and double-check the math. Verifying first avoids a wasted attempt when the count itself was correct.

How to know it worked

When the entered number matches the count, the receiver finishes counting up and a confetti celebration plays. That confetti confirms the puzzle is solved and the reward unlocks.

If the input fails, the problem is almost always one of three things. The face count was wrong, so recount by pressing the green button again and watching the full sequence. The tiles add up to the wrong value, so recheck the top and bottom rows. Or the number was misread through the telescope, so confirm the board again before dialing. Reopening or resetting the transmitter room clears the current attempt, so keep both players in position and only re-enter the count when you are sure it is off.
