Blox Fruits: How to Complete the Pirate Village Secret Windmill Puzzle

Cut all five rigging ropes on the Sea 1 windmill, then claim the star from the Quest Giver by the docks.

Cut all five rigging ropes on the Sea 1 windmill, then claim the star from the Quest Giver by the docks.

The giant windmill sitting above the town square in Pirate Village doesn’t turn anymore, and that is the whole point of it. Its sails are tied down by rigging, and freeing them is one of the Island Secrets added to Sea 1 in Update 30. It is a short puzzle with no boss fight attached, but it only registers when you find every single rope.

Quick answer: Equip any sword and slash the five rigging ropes attached to the windmill in the middle of Pirate Village. When the counter hits 5/5 the blades start spinning, then you claim the reward from the Quest Giver NPC near the docks.

What you need before starting the windmill puzzle

You need a sword. Any blade works — there is no rarity or mastery requirement, so a starter sword is enough. Fighting styles and fruit moves are not what the ropes respond to, so check your inventory and put a cutting weapon in your hotbar before you go looking for the rigging.

The Items menu is where you confirm a sword is equipped in your hotbar before heading to the windmill.

The island itself is built for levels 30 to 60, and it sits west of Middle Town in the First Sea. There is no level gate on the secret, so a higher-level character can sail back and clear it in under a minute.

How to cut all five rigging ropes

Head to the tallest windmill, which stands on the raised level overlooking the town square. Walking up to it triggers a short cutscene that spells out the objective: the rigging is holding the sails in place.

Equip your sword and close any menus. The objective marker gives you a distance readout, so you can use that to line yourself up with the structure instead of guessing.

With a sword equipped, the objective marker counts down the distance to the windmill.
Circle the windmill and look at the sides and the lower part of the frame. The ropes are thin and sit at different heights, so a couple of them are at ground level while others need a jump to reach.

The rigging ropes are attached around the sides and lower sections of the windmill frame.
Slash each rope with your sword. Every successful hit prints a “Rigging cut!” message with a running count, so you always know how many are left without having to remember which side you already checked.

Each rope you sever updates the counter, here moving from 3/5 to 4/5.
Cut the fifth and final rope. Do not stop at four — a partial job leaves the sails locked and the secret unfinished.

How to confirm the windmill puzzle is complete

Three things happen at once when the last rope drops. The counter shows “Rigging cut! (5/5)”, the message “The windmill blades spin freely once more!” appears, and the sails visibly start turning above the square. A COMPLETE marker also flashes up on the objective.

If the blades are still frozen, you missed a rope. Walk a full lap around the base and check the lower framing again, because the ropes tucked against the structure are the easiest ones to run straight past.

Claiming the reward from the Quest Giver

Freeing the windmill is only half of it. Go back down to the docks and talk to the Quest Giver NPC to collect the payout, which comes as bonus EXP that pushes you past the normal level cap along with the usual Island Secret rewards.

Every finished secret also awards a star. Clearing all three secrets on an island unlocks it as a destination on the teleporter in Middle Town, and collecting all 40 stars across Sea 1 opens the teleporter up completely.

The other two Pirate Village secrets

Since the star for the windmill only counts toward one third of the island, here is what the rest of Pirate Village asks for.

SecretWhat it takes
Windmill riggingCut the five ropes on the windmill above the town square with a sword.
Chaos at the TavernApproach the tavern door near the Chef boss spawn, breach it, and defeat the three Tavern Pirates inside.
Chef’s KitchenUse the cauldron on the tavern’s top floor, cook any Fish with Yeti Fur, and beat the Awakened Chef that spawns.

The windmill is the cheapest of the three to knock out, since it needs no boss timer, no ingredients and no combat. If you are working through Sea 1’s secrets in order, do it the moment you dock — five swings and a quick chat at the pier, and the island is a third of the way to its teleport unlock.
