Bluesky is testing a new "Trending Topics" feature, giving users a way to see what subjects are generating the most buzz on the platform. The feature is available on both the desktop and mobile apps.
According to a post from the official Bluesky account, the trending topics can be found on the right sidebar on the desktop version, while mobile users can access them by tapping the search button.
The trending topics feature is currently in beta and is only available in English. However, the company said that it intends to add support for more languages in the future. Users also have the option to disable trending topics in the settings under “Content and Media” by unchecking "Enable trending topics".
Bluesky has also implemented muted words, so if a user has muted specific words or phrases those won't be displayed in the trending topics. This is part of the platform's effort to make the experience more personalized for users.
While third-party Bluesky clients like Greysky already implemented a trending topics feature last year, this is the first time Bluesky is offering its own official version. This new feature puts Bluesky in competition with Threads, which introduced trending topics in March for all U.S. users and is currently testing the feature in Japan.
The social network stated this is the first version of the feature, and will continue improving it in the future. Bluesky now has over 25 million users, and recently received $1 million in funding.
