Book 2 Chapter 2 Collectibles in Moss: The Forgotten Relic

What to hunt for as Quill, and the Reader tools that pull every hidden scroll and pile of Relic Dust into view.

What to hunt for as Quill, and the Reader tools that pull every hidden scroll and pile of Relic Dust into view.

Every room in Book II hides something. As you push Quill deeper into the storybook, the collectibles fall into two clear groups, and clearing a chapter to completion means sweeping both. The good news is that the same handful of Reader tricks unlock nearly all of them once you know what to look for.

Quick answer: In each room, break every barrel, crate and pot for Relic Dust, then scan rooftops, rear ledges and foreground corners for Forgotten Fragment scrolls. Use the Reader to reposition blocks, reveal hidden glass paths and grow vines so you can reach the optional alcoves that hold them.

What counts as a collectible in Book II

There are two things to track as you clear the chapter. Relic Dust is common and scattered across the environment, while Forgotten Fragment scrolls are rare and tucked away behind puzzles or hidden in plain sight. Scrolls carry the real weight for completionists because they tie to achievements and unlock stained-glass artwork.

CollectibleRarityWhy it matters
Relic DustCommonGeneral reward from destructibles; becomes important for special areas and optional content in Book II
Forgotten Fragment scrollsRareUnlock stained-glass artwork and feed completion trophies

Note: Relic Dust matters more in Book II than in the opening chapters. It gates access to certain special areas and optional content, so clearing breakables is not just for tidiness here.

How to spot hidden scrolls and Relic Dust

The chapter’s dioramas deliberately hide items just outside the obvious route. Fragments sit in vertical spaces, behind scenery, or in the corners the camera does not naturally frame. Slow down in each room and work through these checks before moving on.

  • Check the foreground corners of the screen, not just the background where your eye lands first.
  • Inspect rooftops, rear ledges and platforms that sit above the normal path.
  • Look behind buildings, gates, statues and stone stairs for platforms you can shimmy toward.
  • Break every crate, barrel, pot and piece of debris, since scrolls and Dust are frequently hidden behind destructibles.
  • Shift your viewpoint as the Reader to get a cleaner angle on any ledge you think you see.

Reader tools and Book II abilities that reach the alcoves

Most out-of-reach collectibles open up once you apply the right interaction. Book II layers extra abilities and weapons on top of the basic block moves, and several optional pickups only appear after you use them.

Reposition blocks and statues. Grab a highlighted object with the Reader cursor and drag it under a scratched ledge, then send Quill up to a scroll that has no other approach.

Reveal hidden glass paths. When you hit a dead end or spot an unreachable collectible, use the reveal interaction on the marked area and wait for the glass platform to form, then cross and search the surrounding space.
Grow vines with Nature Attunement. Redirect a dormant plant or disconnected vine until it forms a continuous climbing route to a platform holding an optional pickup.
Use the right weapon on blocked routes. The charged sword clears dash gaps, the chakram strikes distant switches, and the hammer moves heavy objects that lighter attacks ignore. Any of these can open the path to a fragment tucked past a sealed mechanism.
Turn Arcane enemies into keys. Hold a beetle-like enemy with the Reader and place it on a pressure plate or use it to trip a switch, which can expose a room or ledge that stays closed to Quill alone. Leave at least one enemy alive when a puzzle needs it.

Confirming you cleared the chapter

You know a scroll registered because collecting Forgotten Fragments unlocks stained-glass artwork, and the fragments feed the game’s completion achievements. Relic Dust adds up quietly as you break objects and is spent on the special areas and optional content that Book II opens up.

If you leave a chapter with something missing, you do not have to restart from scratch. You can return through the chapter select menu and replay the area until you reach the exact room that held the item. The game autosaves regularly, so a fall or defeat usually drops Quill back at the latest checkpoint rather than costing your progress.

The most common reason a collectible seems to “not be there” is a camera angle problem. Rotate your perspective, check the blind corners behind the main view, and confirm you have applied the chapter’s newest ability before deciding a room is empty.
