Borderlands 4: The Rusty Butler Side Mission Walkthrough

Everything needed to finish the Providence Island butler quest, from the room service order to the three hacked deadframes.

Everything needed to finish the Providence Island butler quest, from the room service order to the three hacked deadframes.

The Rusty Butler is one of the side missions tucked into Providence Island, the map added by the FL4K and the Last Resort story pack for Borderlands 4. It starts with a robotic butler who still has a room service order to deliver, and it ends with you dragging three hacked machines into a dining room to pose as dinner guests.

Quick answer: Talk to J33VES at Azura Cascade in the Bagheera Range, collect the room service order from the bar in The Ol’ Abandoned Resort, place Jenson’s skull back on his skeleton, then damage and hack three Decrepit Frames and walk each one to the VIP suite. Kill the Tediore troops that show up, speak to J33VES, and the mission closes out.

The Rusty Butler mission details and requirements

This is DLC content, not a base-game side mission. If you are playing co-op, the mission will not progress unless every player in the session owns the story pack.

Where to find J33VES in the Bagheera Range

Open the map, move to the Bagheera Range, and look for the side mission marker sitting on the Ol’ Abandoned Resort. Fast travel in and work your way through the Azura Cascade resort grounds until you find J33VES standing around with nothing to serve. Talking to him accepts the mission.

Note: if no marker appears on your map here, push further into the story pack’s main missions first. Providence Island side missions unlock as the DLC campaign opens up the region.

Collect the room service order and deliver it

Follow the objective marker for “Collect room service order” deeper into The Ol’ Abandoned Resort. The route runs through the derelict part of the complex, so expect wildlife rather than robots on the way in.
Find the bar counter at the end of the path and interact with the food sitting on it. The order is highlighted with a green outline like any other quest pickup.
Head back to J33VES. Manglers attack on the return trip, and the order stays on you no matter how many times you get interrupted, so just clear them out and keep moving.
Hand the order over, then follow J33VES when he walks off. He leads you into the VIP suite and through to the dining room, which is where the mission turns.

Return Jenson’s head to his skeleton

The guests J33VES has been waiting on are skeletons. After you break the news, the objective updates to “Return Jenson’s head.” Look on the floor near the table for a loose skull, pick it up, and place it back on the seated skeleton body. The prompt only appears when you are standing at the correct chair, so sweep the dining room if the interact option does not show.

With the skull back in place, J33VES panics about having no living guests at all, and the mission asks you to find three replacements.

Damage and hack the three Decrepit Frames

Three Decrepit Frames are scattered around the resort area, each marked with its own waypoint. They all follow the same two-part pattern, and the order you take them in does not matter.

Travel to the first waypoint and shoot the frame. The objective reads “Damage deadframe,” and you need to knock its health down before anything else becomes possible.

Once its health is low, walk up and interact to hack it. The objective flips to “Hack deadframe,” and the frame stops fighting you and becomes an escort.
Lead the hacked frame back to the VIP suite. It follows you, so the real job is clearing anything in the way, including the Tediore squads that block the route to the second and third frames.

Repeat for the remaining two frames. The tracker keeps a running tally under “Return with replacement guests,” so you can check how many you have delivered at any point.

Remove Tediore from the area and turn in the mission

Tediore forces keep pouring into the resort courtyard while you are ferrying guests around, and the mission will not let you finish until they are gone. The objective “Remove Tediore from the area” only clears once every enemy in the resort space is dead, so sweep the courtyard and the upper walkways before heading inside.

Then return to the suite and speak to J33VES to inform him of the new arrivals. The “Side Mission Complete” banner is your confirmation, and the rewards screen follows immediately.

Rogue Improvised PainterECHO-4 Paintjob cosmetic

Check both in your inventory after the completion screen. The paintjob lands under ECHO-4 customization rather than your weapon slots, so it is easy to miss if you close out of the menu too fast.

Why the mission stalls

  • The hack prompt on a Decrepit Frame does not appear until you have shot its health down first.
  • Tediore enemies standing on the escort route will hold up a guest delivery until you clear them.
  • The final turn-in stays locked while any Tediore enemy is still alive in the resort area.
  • In co-op, a player without the story pack blocks progress for the whole group.

The whole thing runs about fifteen minutes if you know the route, and the three frames are the only part that can genuinely trip you up. Clear the courtyard first, then hack each frame and walk it straight back to the suite.
