Clive Barker’s Hellraiser Revival: How to Save and Where to Find Save Tokens

Saving runs on Labyrinth orifices, and on Hellraiser difficulty each one costs a token hidden in the compound.

Saving runs on Labyrinth orifices, and on Hellraiser difficulty each one costs a token hidden in the compound.

Saving in Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival happens at fixed points built into the world, not through a menu. The game calls each one a Labyrinth orifice, and how often you can use them depends entirely on the difficulty you picked when you started. On Hellraiser difficulty, every save draws on a consumable item called a Save Token, which means you have to find them before you can keep your progress.

Quick answer: Interact with a Labyrinth orifice (a cracked, sparking wall opening) and press F to save. On Hellraiser difficulty each save costs 1 Save Token, and the first token sits on a gurney two rooms past the first compound save point.

How saving works and what the Labyrinth orifice is

Each save point is a dark, cracked opening in a wall that sparks with blue-white electricity. Walk up to one and the prompt reads F Save progress on PC. The first time you pass one, the game shows a tutorial line: “Save your progress by interacting with the Labyrinth orifice.”

What that interaction does changes with the difficulty you chose on the New Game screen. There is no autosave to fall back on at the harder levels, so the save point is your only lifeline.

HardLimited save locations; autosave disabled
HellraiserSaving only with Save Tokens; selectable only at the start of a new game

Easy is the fourth option on that screen. Hellraiser is the only mode locked to the start of a run, described in-game as having “extremely difficult combat, an abundance of enemies, and a scarcity of resources.” Hard keeps the save points scarce but free. Hellraiser is where tokens come into play.

What a Save Token is and how spending one works

A Save Token is an inventory item that takes up a slot in the grid, shaped like a small, fleshy, eye-like object. Its description reads: “Allows you to save manually on Hellraiser difficulty.” The tutorial text at the save point spells out the cost directly: “Saving progress on Hellraiser difficulty costs 1 Save Token. These valuables are hidden in the world, so look carefully.”

When you use a save point with a token in hand, Aidan crushes the token and pushes it into the opening, and the Save Game screen opens. It lists Name, Difficulty, Date, and Duration columns with the line “Select a slot to save your game.” The controls are Space to save, X to delete, and Esc to go back. Pick “New Save” and the game writes your file, then flashes a -1 Save Token notification. That notification is your confirmation the save landed and the token was spent.

Try to save with no token and the prompt shows red text reading “INSUFFICIENT SAVE TOKENS.” Nothing is written. One token equals exactly one save, consumed the moment you confirm.

Where the first save point is

The first save point appears during the “Escape the cult” objective inside the Scarlet Church compound. After the wood-panelled hall lined with paintings, go through the open wooden door beside the painting titled “The Prophet’s Pilgrimage to Gnosis” and head down the concrete stairs into a tiled basement corridor. The orifice is set into the left wall.

You have no token at this stage, so the first time through you cannot save at this point. At the corridor’s far end, a barred gate triggers the Chatterer chase. When the chase finishes, it brings you back to the same tiled passage, with the save point available again.

Where to find the first Save Token

Starting at the save point in the tiled passage, enter the green swing door on the passage’s left. Inside, a hooded man is suspended upside down by his ankles.
Use the F Pull knife out prompt to take the knife from the man’s back. A cutscene follows, then you face a masked cultist in a one-on-one fight. Use the left mouse button to attack and A, S, and D to evade.
Once the fight ends, cross to the room’s green door at the far end and enter the examination room. On a gurney beside a sheet-covered body, you’ll find the Save Token, with an Apple next to it. Select F Save Token, then press F once more in the inspect view to pick it up.

The gurney is close to the corridor orifice—just one fight and one door away—so you can return and use the token straight away or hold onto it for a later save point. Between the compound’s entrance and the chapel, the route contains only one Save Token, so use it carefully. Other tokens may be hidden elsewhere.

The next save points before the chapel

Two more save points sit ahead on the way to the chapel, both Labyrinth orifices rather than tokens. Neither one hands you a token, so whatever you found on the gurney is what you have to work with across this whole stretch.

  • On the wall next to a staircase landing, reached after the secret bookshelf passage and the first ward rooms.
  • In the concrete hallway immediately before the chapel, climb the wooden ladder fixed to the wall using F Go up. The save point is at the top.

The staircase landing is the natural place to spend your token, since it sits before a long, hostile run. When you confirm the save there, the -1 Save Token notification appears exactly as it does at any orifice.

Reach the ladder orifice before the chapel without a token in your pack and it simply shows “INSUFFICIENT SAVE TOKENS” and refuses to save. There is no token on this final approach, which is why where you spend the gurney token matters so much.

What happens when you die

The death screen offers “Continue,” “Load Game,” and “Main Menu,” with a gameplay tip underneath. Choosing “Continue” drops you back at the last save point you used. Anything you picked up after that save, including weapons and items, is gone and has to be collected again. The stretch between the staircase save and the chapel is long, includes armoured enemies and gunners, and has no token to bank progress along the way, so a death there means replaying the whole run.

Clear rooms with stealth takedowns where you can. Crouch behind an enemy and use the F Takedown prompt to drop most patrols quietly. Open fights against two or more cultists at once are where deaths pile up, which makes an early, well-placed save worth the single token it costs.

Can you save without a token on Hellraiser?

No. Hellraiser has neither autosaves nor free saves; with no token in your inventory, you cannot save again until you find one. You can select Hellraiser only when beginning a new game, so that restriction applies from the outset. Soda, Apple, Sausage, and Bread restore a small amount of health over time, but Bandages, assigned to Q, are your main healing item. Keep your health up before taking your single token on the long trip toward the chapel, and use it at the staircase landing while you still have the chance.
