Enshrouded 1.0 adds a wiring system to its voxel building. Called Sparkworks, it lets you connect levers, buttons, pressure plates, doors, water dispensers, enemy spawners and lethal traps through a node-based logic editor. Every piece of it is locked behind Contraptions And Mechanisms, a side quest from Cade Hawthorn, your Carpenter. Until you finish that quest, none of it is available.
Quick answer: Accept Contraptions And Mechanisms from Cade Hawthorn, open the Night Sanctum southeast of the Ancient Spire – Revelwood after dark, loot its ornate chest, then craft and place the Sparkworks Workbench.
What Sparkworks adds to Enshrouded 1.0
Sparkworks is Keen Games’ answer to a familiar builder request. People wanted bases that do things, not bases that only sit there looking nice. You place world objects that send or receive a signal, then link them in graphs built from logic nodes. A pressure plate can raise spikes. A trigger zone can lock a door and summon skeletons. A pair of shootable targets can switch off a lightning trap. Each of these is a small circuit made from parts you craft.
The name came from a translation problem. Internally the system was called “Logikverknüpfungen,” German for logic connections, and the studio needed something English speakers could say. The official overview trailer walks through the toolset and five sample dungeon mechanics.
Sparkworks also connects to Adventure Sharing, the feature that lets players upload worlds and dungeons for others to download. Wired dungeons are the obvious use, and Keen has already published one of its own (more on that below).

Add to Google Preferences →Contraptions And Mechanisms quest requirements
Cade Hawthorn gives out the quest, so you need to have rescued him and settled him at your base first. In his pitch, he believes the Ancients’ Night Sanctums hold the tools for traps and mechanisms, and that copying them would let you build the same at home. The quest log tracks three objectives: “Reach The Trapped Night Sanctum,” “Search The Trapped Night Sanctum,” and “Craft And Place The Sparkworks Workbench.”
Before you head out, have the following ready:
- Cade Hawthorn rescued and working at your base
- A Glider for the drop from the Ancient Spire – Revelwood
- Nighttime, because the sanctum door stays sealed during the day
- For the final craft, your base needs a Carpenter station and a Sheltered Bed.
The Glider is an Uncommon, item level 5 tool crafted at the Workbench. It glides at a speed of 10 and drains 4 stamina per second. You learn the recipe early on, when you pick up basics such as Animal Fur, Shroud Spores, Shroud Wood or String.

Night Sanctum route southeast of the Ancient Spire – Revelwood
The objective marker points to a specific Night Sanctum southeast of the Ancient Spire – Revelwood. The fastest way there is to fast travel to that spire, glide off its southern balcony, and cover the rest on foot along the waypoint. The final stretch is a wooded, rocky path that climbs to the sanctum’s circular door.
The door displays “Can only be opened at night,” and has no other requirement. In daylight, wait or sleep for night to fall, and the seal will release. Spike traps fill the corridors, and lava covers the lower chamber’s floor. Collect the flame spark as you go, time your moves through the spikes, and glide above the lava using the narrow beams rather than falling in. Once past every trap, find the ornate golden chest in the upper level’s back room.

The sanctum itself is the first Sparkworks demo you see. Its spikes and sealed doors are built from the same pieces you unlock at the end.
Ornate chest loot: Sparkworks Tool and Marksman Boots
Opening the chest completes the second objective and shows “Recipe Unlocked! Sparkworks Workbench at Carpenter.” It contains:

| Reward | Type | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Construction Tools | Common | |
| Feet armor | Rare, item level 10 | |
| Currency | x12 | |
| Recipe unlock | Crafted at the Carpenter |
The Sparkworks Tool is an Ancient construction tool for wiring buttons, doors and traps together so they react to each other. You equip it and open building mode with Tab. If you lose it or want spares, more copies come from the Sparkworks Workbench once that is built.

Marksman Boots are a Ranger piece with 5 Physical Armor, 5 Magical Armor and 6 Stamina. They also carry Eagle’s Bane 1 and Stamina Regeneration 6 as perks. The 12 Gold Coins go into a stack that holds up to 1,000.
Sparkworks Workbench recipe and quest completion
Back at base, the workbench appears in Cade Hawthorn’s crafting menu. It requires the Carpenter and a Sheltered Bed, along with these materials:
| Material | Quantity | Made at |
|---|---|---|
| 4 | Forge | |
| 2 | Blacksmith | |
| 2 | Smelter or Blast Furnace | |
| 9 | Springlands Shroud Lairs |
Metal Sheets and Nails both start from Metal Scraps. Picking up scraps teaches both recipes, Sheets are smelted at the Forge, and Nails come from the Blacksmith. Scraps and Sheets stack to 250.
Copper Bars are an item level 13 material. You learn the recipe when you first pick up Copper Ore, and the bars are produced at the Smelter or the Blast Furnace.
Archaic Essence I drops from Springlands Shroud Lairs and is also a reward from the Finding And Using A Gem Forge quest. It stacks to 500, so you will likely have plenty if you have been socketing gems. The recipe also accepts other tiers of essence.
Place the workbench anywhere inside your base to finish. You know the quest is complete when the “Craft And Place The Sparkworks Workbench” objective clears, you receive 100 XP, and Contraptions And Mechanisms leaves your journal. Open the new bench to confirm. Its menu has crafting categories for Buttons and Levers, Indicator, and Traps, alongside Essentials and Sparkworks Tools.

Extra Sparkworks Tools cost 4 Metal Scraps plus either 5 Archaic Essence I or a single Archaic Essence VII. A Sparkworks Switchbox costs 1 Copper Bars and 1 Archaic Essence VII, which drops in Cinder’s Cradle Shroud Lairs.
Sparkworks graphs, switchboxes and logic nodes
Every circuit lives in a graph. The Sparkworks Tool opens the full graph list from anywhere inside your base boundary. A Switchbox is a wall-mounted fixture that opens either a specific graph or all of them, which is handy when you want the controls inside the room they run. Graphs can be renamed, and the list counts them against a cap of 100.

Nodes come in four categories: World Objects, Time Nodes, Logic Operators and Saving States. The building blocks in use are:
- Logic gates AND, OR, NAND, XOR and NOT, plus fixed ON and OFF signals
- Hold, which delays a signal by a set time
- Clock, which pulses on a repeating interval
- Flank, a brief ON pulse that switches off again
- D Flip-Flop and Toggle for remembering state
- Spawner, which summons a chosen enemy with a timeout and level offset
Spawners can summon any enemy you have already defeated, except unique world bosses. Trigger areas are configurable boxes. In the trailer, one is set to detect the player inside a 2.9 by 4 by 4 meter volume.
Sparkworks Workbench pieces reference
Each of these is a Common placeable that stacks to 50. Everything except the Trigger Zone shows a Sparkworks Workbench recipe that yields one piece.

| Piece | Role | Behavior |
|---|---|---|
| Control | Adds and edits graphs | |
| Input | Flips between ON and OFF | |
| Input | Lever with an ON light | |
| Input | Short ON pulse, then OFF | |
| Input | Toggles ON/OFF, lit when ON | |
| Input | Toggles when hit by arrow or spell | |
| Input | Area-based trigger | |
| Output | Sparkworks-driven light | |
| Output | Activates via Sparkworks | |
| Trap | Raises spikes when active | |
| Trap | Fires a lightning projectile | |
| Trapdoor Metal 2m / 4m | Trap | Drops open underfoot |
| Trapdoor Stone 2m / 4m | Trap | Drops open underfoot |
| Trap | Drops open underfoot |
The Light piece is optional. Torches, braziers and other existing light sources can also sit in a graph as outputs, so a whole hall of torches can go dark from a single lever.
Five Sparkworks dungeon mechanics in the overview trailer
Keen’s demo dungeon builds one mechanic per room, and each graph is small enough to follow at a glance.
Spike trap hallway
A pressure plate feeds a 5.5-second Hold and a NOT gate into three Spike Traps, so the floor alternates as you move through. A second 5-second Hold drives the entrance grate door. The whole thing uses nine nodes.

Skeleton lock-in arena
A trigger area sends a Flank pulse when you walk in. That pulse seals the room and fires spawners set to Hollow Summoner with a -5 level offset. Skull markers float over each spawn point while you edit.

Trapdoor jumping puzzle
Three Trapdoor Metal 4m panels open in rhythm. A trigger starts a 0.1-second Hold, a 3-second Clock drives a D Flip-Flop, and NOT and OR gates keep the panels out of phase so there is always somewhere to land.

Flooding dive tunnel
Moving through an underwater labyrinth starts a Water Dispenser filling the chamber. A Push Button wired through a Toggle drains it, and a light marks the exit door when it is open.
Lightning trap with shootable targets
Electric beams pulse on Flank and Clock timing. Two Shootable Buttons feed an AND gate, so the trap shuts off only once you have hit both targets with a bow or spell. This is the largest graph in the dungeon at 24 nodes.

Sparkworks Showcase share code and community builds
Keen uploaded the full demo dungeon to Adventure Sharing as “Sparkworks Showcase” under the KeenCommunity name. The share code is 7HMZMQBVIV9H. The download is 3.5 MB and contains 2,591 placed objects, eight Sparkworks graphs and one Flame Altar, so you can open every circuit and see how it is wired.

Players are already pushing the system further. DJ H-Racer 7 has built a working analog clock, an elevator, hidden staircases, and a lever trap modeled on the one from The Emperor’s New Groove. Keen has said more Sparkworks features will follow, including a way to reset dungeons and traps. No date has been given for those additions.
