Control Resonant: How to Open the Gate for the Rangers

During The Unknown Resonant, the friendly Rangers hit a locked security gate that needs a charged power core before it will open. The objective “Open the Gate for the Rangers” sends you down into the vertical space between the buildings to recover a second core, then back up to power the gate mechanism. It plays out in the Patterned area designated UNKNOWN 4, inside the West Incursion Zone.

Quick answer: Drop into the shaft beside the gate, grab the orange power core on a trolley at the lowest street, ride the updrafts back up, and place the core in the empty socket next to the Ranger to open the gate.

Where the objective takes place

The quest log reports that the gate is locked and needs a powered core to open, so you must find a second core and move its energy. The map marks the search site as UNKNOWN 4 in the West Incursion Zone. An allied Ranger is posted by the gate and waits there while you restore its power.

Steps to open the gate for the Rangers

Stand at the locked gate and head forward along the foggy street. Move toward the large drop-off gap between the buildings and jump into the vertical shaft below.

Descend through the chasm by levitating, weaving past the red explosive barrel clusters and drifting debris to keep your course steady.

Land near the platform station partway down and check the path below. Keep dropping through the rings of debris to reach the lowest street level.

At street level’s lowest point, spot an orange power core on a mobile trolley. Use telekinesis to lift it.

With the core in hand, rise on the vertical air updrafts. Follow the currents across the buses and rooftops, returning to the level of the street and gate.

Sprint into the enclosure around the gate, where the friendly Ranger is waiting. You first encountered the locked gate at this location.

Fit the core into the vacant, yellow-marked socket beside the gate. Power will reach the mechanism, causing the security gate to slide open.

The socket station is easy to spot because of the yellow floor boundary lines painted around it.

How to confirm the gate is open

Once the core is slotted, the gate opens and you can walk through it with the Ranger. The HUD shows a “Quest Updated” message, and the quest log marks “Open the Gate for the Rangers” as complete. Control then hands you the next objective, “Advance with the Rangers,” so you can keep pushing forward with your allies through the Patterned zone.
