The Unknown is the last major Manhattan zone to open in Control Resonant, and its map stays hidden until you power up the FBC Map Kit buried inside its floating, gravity-bent geometry. Because “up” and “down” barely mean anything here, revealing the map early makes the rest of the region far easier to read.
Quick answer: Reach the Unknown’s central Map Kit pylon, activate its three nearby sensors, then interact with the pylon (Square) to bring the zone map online. This final kit completes the quest Notes: Mapping the New New York and awards the Untapped Fork.
What unlocking the Unknown Map Kit does
Activating the kit clears the fog of war across the Unknown 1 sector, exposing terrain, routes, and points of interest such as Large Resource Crates. A Map Kit is exploration infrastructure, not an upgrade, so there is no resource cost and nothing to buy.
This is also the seventh and final kit in the city. Powering it triggers a radio exchange between Dylan and Zoe, completes Notes: Mapping the New New York, and grants the Untapped Fork artifact along with +1 Undefined Reading.
What you need before entering the Unknown
The Unknown is a late-game area, reached through the elevator after speaking with Pope, and it is the most dangerous zone in the city. You will be moving across suspended structures while Hiss, Mold, and Hedron enemies patrol the same platforms.
Access to the Unknown zone via the elevator after the Pope conversation.
The Reach ability, used to climb skyscrapers fast and flip your orientation.
Probes from Pope’s supply balloon to build platforms across impossible gaps.
Roughly Aberrant Strength 100 to survive the enemies roaming the zone.
If you are underleveled, activate the sensors and run rather than trying to clear every enemy in the area.
Once the elevator brings you in, land on the floating platform and rotate the world until the street on the far side of the gap is underneath. Drop straight down to that street to return to an upright orientation.
Go to the supply balloon Pope placed near the elevator, drop the crate, and attack it to open it. Carry one probe to the rough red circle on the ground, then place a second probe at the opposite end of the start area to spawn a platform you can Reach.
Once on the platform, jump off toward the cluster of buildings far “below.” About halfway down through the nexus you will spot the Map Kit tower standing on a tall building near the center of the region.
Open the map and mark the Map Kit icon in the UNKNOWN 1 sector so you have a fixed reference point. In a zone where sight lines vanish and roads fold, the player marker is the most reliable way to track your position.

Locate the first sensor by looking toward the red-brick building with “Yo” graffiti on it. Jump across to that building, keep right, and activate the sensor on the nearby roof. Sensors show a slow-blinking light and turn toward the tower once powered.
Sensor two is suspended from a rooftop over the pylon. From a nearby rooftop, use Reach to exchange “up” and “down,” then scan the other side of the street for the graffiti-marked white-brick building. The red “Bus Only” sign on the road “beneath” you serves as a landmark.
Find the third sensor on the same plane as the central pylon. You can see the top of the Oldest House from it; otherwise look for bright white floodlights and a deflated yellow balloon, with the sensor sitting close to both.
With all three sensors active, return to the tower and interact with the control panel at its base using Square. Stay for the Dylan and Zoe radio debrief, and select the reply prompt if you want to close out the exchange.
You will see a “Zone Map Unlocked” notification the moment the pylon powers on, followed by the quest completion for Notes: Mapping the New New York and the Untapped Fork reward. If the map is still blank after touching all three sensors, go back to the central pylon and interact with it again, since that return trip is the actual final step.
Open the map afterward and UNKNOWN 1 will show its full layout with points of interest marked. Keep in mind that a revealed map does not make every route reachable, since some paths still depend on Pattern geometry, relay equipment, and later traversal progress to bridge otherwise impossible gaps.
