New Growth is a multi-stage side story that sends Dylan Faden across The Park sector to find Dr. Rays Underhill, the missing head researcher of the Mold. The trail runs from an FBC outpost to her old office in the Oldest House, into her apartment, and finally down into a hidden sewer lab where her experiments got loose.
Quick answer: Ask Ranger Busken about Underhill, collect the Level 6 Keycard, read the Welcome Letter in her office for her address, meet her at 140 Fletcher Ave, then clear the sewer lab, defeat Specimens A, B and C, and pick “Take the samples” to earn the Untapped Brass Dusters.
New Growth rewards and objectives
The headline prize is the Untapped Brass Dusters, a form upgrade for the Aberrant. You also pick up a Mold Sample Test Tube on completion and a Power Upgrade Point inside the lab along the way.
Open the map and mark The Park Checkpoint in the Central district. Cross the checkpoint on foot, clearing the hostile Mold organisms in the quarantine streets, and continue into the quarantine facility.
Emerge onto The Park rooftops and activate the Park Valley Fast Travel Door. Fight through the Mold-infected hosts as you push toward the FBC Base, then activate the FBC Base Fast Travel Door once you arrive.
At the base, talk to Ranger Busken. He says Underhill disappeared while at a nearby research site, changing your objective to examining the place she was last seen.
Cross the rooftops south through this block to find Underhill’s deserted field outpost. At the workstation table, take the Underhill’s Resignation Letter and Level 6 Keycard.
Take the elevator back to the Oldest House and go to Central Executive. In the Executive Research wing, use the Level 6 clearance on office 06 to unlock her old room.
Follow the streets to 140 Fletcher Ave, enter the apartment complex, and pick up Research Notes On The Mold. Next, go into the kitchen, where Dr. Underhill is hiding, and speak with her to get the Key to Underhill’s Sewer Lab.
Collect the Mold Growth Stimulator and Sample Tubes from the lab table. You can also grab the Response From Pope document and Power Upgrade Point (2/3) while you’re here.
Apply the stimulator to the lab’s pulsating Mold clumps. The clumps respond by moving after the escaped test subjects and marking their route with glowing spore trails. Follow those trails by dropping into the deeper pipe system.
Hunt down all three specimens and harvest a Mold Sample Test Tube from each kill. Their locations are fixed:
Specimen A — airborne, in the flooded tunnels.
Specimen C — cornered in the open maintenance yard along the orange-lit drainage path.
Specimen B — lurking at street level in the alleyway, reached by leaping across the Park rooftops.
Turn in the samples to complete New Growth
With all three Mold Sample Test Tubes in hand, run back to Underhill’s apartment and speak with her. The final dialogue offers three choices: “Take the samples”, “I have to report you”, or “Go… without the samples”.
Select “Take the samples” to hand over the harvested Mold and let her continue her experiments. The screen shows the “QUEST COMPLETED / NEW GROWTH” banner, and your rewards land in your inventory: the Untapped Brass Dusters weapon form and a Mold Sample Test Tube.
The Untapped Brass Dusters is a form upgrade for the Aberrant, so equip it from your weapon menu to start using the new melee form right away.
