Oven Wanderer Cookie sits at the top of most CookieRun: Crumble rarity charts. He is one of only two TSSR Cookies in the launch roster, he is handed out free through the beginner quests, and PvE tier lists put him in the highest bracket. The Arena tells a different story, and the reason is not his damage numbers — it is where his skill decides to send him.
Quick answer: Promoting him to 5 stars does not fix his Arena problem. Brave Slash charges at the enemy with the highest ATK, which pulls him out of your formation and into the opposing back line, where he usually dies before the explosion lands. In a level 90, 5-star build his damage across matches in the same power bracket swung from 31,463 to 948,115. Keep him in PvE lineups and put a Cookie you can rely on in his Arena slot.
Brave Slash: what the skill does in order
Brave Slash runs on a 6.75-second cooldown and fires in three stages. First he strikes with his sword. Then he charges toward an enemy with high ATK, damaging anything in the path. The flames left behind burn for 2 seconds, ticking every 0.33 seconds. Once the charge ends, a ground explosion hits everything near the landing point.

The star upgrades scale all three damage stages, and the explosion radius widens once you hit the fourth upgrade step.
| Component | Base | Max upgrade |
|---|---|---|
| Charge damage | 57.6% of ATK | 81.8% of ATK |
| Flame damage per tick | 2.1% of ATK | 2.9% of ATK |
| Explosion damage | 60.5% of ATK | 86% of ATK |
| Explosion range | 2.5 | 3.25 (from step 4) |
| Cooldown | 6.75 seconds | |
| Charge count (Chain) | 3 | |

The charge does not go to the nearest enemy. It goes to a high-ATK enemy, the same behaviour Vampire Cookie uses. Against waves of stage enemies that is a genuine strength, because he ignores fodder and drives into the units doing real damage.
The Arena inverts that logic. Every opposing squad is twelve durable player Cookies, and the highest-ATK one is usually sitting behind their front line. Oven Wanderer sprints past his own team to reach it, arrives alone with no healing or shields in range, and takes the full attention of the enemy formation. He also frequently commits to a single target, which throws away the area coverage the flame trail and explosion were built for.
Note: this is a behaviour problem, not a stat problem. Levelling him to 90 and pushing him to 5 stars raises the damage he would deal if he survived. It does not change where he runs.
Arena results at level 90 and 5 stars
Five Elite Master 3 matches with a 5-star, level 90 Oven Wanderer show how wide the spread gets. The team started at 3.01M power and was later rebuilt to 3.21M, with the Chain Synergy pet swapped out for Rapid Fire.
| Enemy power | Oven Wanderer damage | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 2.55M | 31,463 (died immediately) | Defeat |
| 2.78M | 948,115 (survived) | Win |
| 2.91M | 229k (died early) | Defeat |
| 2.91M (rebuilt team) | 179k (survived) | Win |
| 2.75M | 269k | Win |
One outlier match produced nearly a million damage. The other four sat between 31k and 269k, and in the final fight he was out-damaged by Pinot Noir Cookie and Milky Way Cookie — a support and a knockback Cookie, not dedicated carries. Whether the good outcome or the bad one happens comes down to which enemy the charge picks first.
Chain Synergy has only two providers
Oven Wanderer receives Chain Synergy, which lets skills chain additional times. He does not grant any Synergy himself, and neither does Wind Archer Cookie, so a team built around him still needs a separate slot spent on the buff.
| Provider | Rarity / class | Cooldown |
|---|---|---|
| Skating Queen Cookie | SSR Charge (front line) | 8.0s |
| Lime Cookie | SR Support (back line) | 8.0s |
Both sit on 8-second cooldowns, so Chain arrives in gaps rather than continuously and cannot be kept up. Pick whichever one fills the slot you actually need — Skating Queen for the front, Lime for the back. If you own neither, Oven Wanderer runs with no Synergy at all. Twizzly Gummy Cookie and Vampire Cookie share the same Synergy, so one provider can cover several Cookies at once.
Team adjustments that do not solve it
Two common fixes were tested and neither changed the outcome pattern. Building around Chain with Lime Cookie or Skating Queen Cookie plus a Chain Synergy pet raises his ceiling on the rare match where he lives, but the 8-second provider cooldowns mean the buff is not reliably up when he charges in.
Swapping to an area defense-down build with Dark Choco Cookie, dropping Rockstar Cookie and moving to a Rapid Fire pet, pushed team power to 3.21M and did produce wins. Oven Wanderer’s own contribution in those wins was 179k and 269k. The team carried the match; he was not the reason it was won.
How to check whether the targeting is what killed him
Where he still earns his slot
PvE is a different problem for him and he handles it well. High-power lineups run him in multi-boss stages alongside Wind Archer Cookie and Vampire Cookie, with Dark Choco Cookie shredding DEF and Pomegranate Cookie scaling Skill AMP across the board. The high-ATK targeting works in your favour there, and his fire damage stacks on bosses over repeated casts.
One condition matters for those builds: below 5 stars he is generally replaced in that slot by Rye Cookie, and Milky Way Cookie is the usual substitute if you need one. For Sugar Runes, ATK AMP, Skill AMP, CRIT%, CRIT DMG, Mov SPD and Focus Rate are the stats worth rolling for.
Rarity is doing a lot of work in his reputation. TSSR sets a higher base stat floor than the SSR Charge template, and that alone justifies investing in him for stages, Crumble Dungeon and Plague Tower. In the Arena, until his charge behaviour is reworked or he gets defensive numbers that let him survive the trip, the safest read is that his damage there is a coin flip and your Arena slot is better spent elsewhere.
