Chapter 2 of Crime Scene Investigation drops you into Moreau Mansion on September 30, 1999. A will reading has gone badly wrong, family lawyer Charles Dubois is dead in the library, and the five-question report at the end of the case is the only thing that matters. Get one answer wrong and the game hands the file back to you.
Quick answer: Submit the report as Blackmail (motive), Lucien (killer), Luzinete (first to arrive), Secret passage (entry method), and Claire plus Marcel (also investigate).
Chapter 2 case report answers
The criminal investigation report asks five questions, and all five must be right before the chapter closes. The final question takes two names, not one.
| Report question | Correct answer |
|---|---|
| What was the motive? | Blackmail |
| Who killed Charles? | Lucien |
| Who was the first to arrive at the crime scene? | Luzinete |
| How did the killer enter the library undetected? | Secret passage |
| Who also should be investigated? | Claire, Marcel |
Note: the gambling debt is the reason Lucien was vulnerable, not the motive the report wants. Blackmail is the answer the game accepts.
The evidence behind each answer
Lucien Moreau owed $150,000 to Boris Ivanov after a run of gambling losses. A letter in an upper hallway drawer lays out the debts, a horse racing ticket in the nursery backs it up, and a debt collection letter from Ivanov sits in an outdoor trash can. The blackmail letter in Lucien’s own room is what ties the money problem to the killing.
Claire and Marcel are the two names that belong on the last line. Claire’s diary, spread across several pages in her bedroom, and the letter she sent to Sophie point to what she knew. Marcel’s room sits outside the main house and holds medical records and a negotiation note, and a pistol is hidden on top of the medicine cabinet in his bathroom.
Sophie is the loudest red herring in the case. She bought Potassium Cyanide from Aflex Chemical & Scientific Supply Co., and the receipt turns up in the kitchen alongside a shopping list. Charles was not poisoned, so the purchase never becomes the answer, and Sophie’s name does not go on the report.
Where the clues are in Moreau Mansion
You spawn in the lobby in the dark. Turn on the lights, use H for the flashlight on PC, and hold C or CTRL to crouch when you need to reach low shelving. Interactable objects glow with a red outline, and the on-screen objective tracks whether you have found and inspected everything.

The dining room is the easiest room to skip. Open the sideboard drawers rather than walking past them, because a congratulatory card is tucked inside.

| Room | What you find |
|---|---|
| TV room | Police report on a clipboard, photograph on an armchair |
| Kitchen | Aflex Chemical receipt for Potassium Cyanide, shopping list |
| Dining room | Congratulatory card in a drawer |
| Claire’s room | Claire’s diary, read across several pages |
| Etienne’s office | Past due notice from Hillcrest Country Club, Etienne’s diary, the safe |
| Under the stairs | Note with the safe code 1200 |
| Library | Chalk outline of the victim, case file |
| Upper hallway | Letter detailing Lucien’s gambling debts |
| Master suite | Old photo, Maison Vionnet fashion house receipt |
| Sophie’s room | Broken window, letter from Claire |
| Baby’s room | Will distribution note, horse racing ticket |
| Lucien’s room | Broken window, blackmail letter |
| Backyard | Footprints in the grass, a ladder, the locked shed, trash can letter |
| Marcel’s room | Medical records, negotiation note, hidden pistol in the bathroom |

Outside, the grass keeps footprints and a ladder is propped where someone climbed. Both broken windows upstairs line up with that ladder, which is exactly why the entry question tempts you into the wrong answer.

Interrogating the household
Five people can be questioned: Marcel, Isabelle, Luzinete, Lucien, and Claire. Their dialogue changes as you collect physical evidence, so a second pass after the safe, the shed, and the pistol opens lines that were not there the first time. Luzinete is the one who confirms she reached the library first, and Lucien and Claire both crack further once the blackmail letter and the gambling paperwork are in your notes.
Tip: exhausting every dialogue option is its own reward. A dedicated badge exists for completing all the interrogation dialogue, and only around 2 percent of players have it.
How to confirm the case is solved
Starting Chapter 2 awards the “Back on the Case.” badge immediately, so that one is not a completion signal. A correct report is confirmed when the submission goes through instead of being rejected, the “Case Closed.” badge unlocks, and the ending slides play out the fates of Lucien, Claire, and Sophie.
| Badge | Share of players who have it |
|---|---|
| Back on the Case. | 80.4% |
| Case Closed. | 17.2% |
| Find and inspect all items | 6.3% |
| Complete all the dialogue in the interrogation. | 2.3% |
| Meticulous Detective. | 0.5% |
Why the report keeps coming back wrong
- Choosing the gambling debt or the will as the motive instead of blackmail.
- Naming Sophie as the killer because of the Potassium Cyanide receipt.
- Answering the entry question with the ladder or a broken window rather than the secret passage.
- Listing only one name on the final question when the report accepts both Claire and Marcel.
- Filling out the report before opening the safe, the shed, and Marcel’s bathroom, which leaves the deciding clues unread.
A clean run of the mansion, both rounds of questioning included, lands well past the 15-minute average session on this experience, and that is normal for a first attempt. Servers cap at four players, so bringing friends splits the rooms between you without changing any of the answers above.
