Track down horn-cutting bandits and recover a Mysterious Elixir for the rancher Ibano in Hernand.
by Pallav Pathak
The Man Trapped in the Mire is the 22nd main quest in Crimson Desert and falls under the Hernand in Chaos sub-chapter of Chapter 2: Golden Greed. A rancher named Ibano is furious because bandits cut the horns off his goats and stole his goods. Your job is to track the thieves, read a memory fragment, grab the stolen item, and bring it back.
Quick answer: Defeat three bandits east of Ibano’s location, use your lantern to reveal the “Hornless Goat” memory fragment near their stolen goods, pick up the Mysterious Elixir from a rock at the campsite, then return to Ibano at Muckroot Ranch to finish the quest.

You pick up this quest from the bounty board. Once accepted, a marker will appear on your map pointing you toward Ibano.
Follow the objective marker to find Ibano and two other men. When you get close, press your lock-in button — Ctrl on PC — to trigger a cinematic cutscene.

After the cutscene, Ibano will explain what happened. The bandits weren’t just stealing randomly; they were searching for a specific rock, apparently on someone else’s orders. Once the conversation ends, a new waypoint appears to the east.
Pull out your lantern (Ctrl on PC, or LB on controller) and aim it at the barrels and stolen goods near the camp. This reveals a memory fragment. Once you collect it, you’ll learn the memory called Hornless Goat.
Play the memory. The game will immediately prompt you to view it — press Esc on PC to accept. If you dismiss the prompt, you can still watch it manually by opening your inventory, selecting the Visione helm, navigating to the Hernand tab, and looking under the Incidents section for “Hornless Goat.”

💡
If you’re unfamiliar with the Visione helm, you can also hold the Options button (or its PC equivalent) and click the bottom icon in the right sidebar to jump straight to your collected memories.
After watching the memory, look around the bandit campsite. On a rock near the stolen goods sits an item called the Mysterious Elixir. Walk up to it and interact to pick it up.
That’s the only item you need here. Once it’s in your inventory, the objective updates, and a new marker appears to the west.

As you approach Ibano, a final cinematic cutscene triggers automatically. You don’t need to press anything — just get close enough. Once the cutscene ends, the quest completes, and you receive your rewards: coins, one Standard Inventory Expansion Tool, and five Cloth Pieces.

The Man Trapped in the Mire is a relatively short quest, but the memory-reading mechanic can trip up players who haven’t used the lantern or Visione helm much before. The key thing to remember is that the lantern reveals hidden fragments and the Visione helm plays them back — two separate steps that are easy to confuse the first time around. With the Mysterious Elixir delivered and Ibano satisfied, you’re free to move on to the next bounty in the Hernand in Chaos storyline.
