Crimson Desert: The Clue for Chaos Quest Walkthrough

Where to find Skallove, which chief to talk to, and the exact objective that unlocks next.

Where to find Skallove, which chief to talk to, and the exact objective that unlocks next.

The Clue for Chaos is a faction quest in Crimson Desert that opens with a single instruction and almost no hand-holding: find the person in charge of a small village and hear them out. The whole step is a conversation, and the payoff is a new marker pointing at a mountain that has been getting hammered by lightning.

Quick answer: Travel to Skallove, the village directly north of Pailun, and speak with its chief, Eldan Greymane. Letting his dialogue play out clears “Talk to the chief of Skallove” and replaces it with “Go to the Scorched Mountain.”

The Clue for Chaos quest details

The quest sits under the “Where Lightning Strikes” heading, with “Master of Thunder” shown as the broader questline it belongs to. The starting objective carries the hint “Someone might know how this chaos began,” which is the game pointing you at the village chief rather than at the mountain itself.

How to reach Skallove and find the chief

Open the map and look for the quest marker north of Pailun. Skallove is labelled on the map, and the objective shows up as a star-shaped marker. Because this is faction content rather than a main story mission, it uses a silver marker instead of the orange one reserved for the campaign.
Fast travel to the closest Abyss Nexus point you have already activated, then ride the rest of the way. Nexus points have to be found and unlocked before they appear as travel options, so tagging them while you explore Pailun saves a long return trip here.
Walk into the village and follow the floating objective marker. It hovers above the chief’s head, so you do not need to check individual villagers, and the marker stays visible on the HUD as you move through the houses.

Interact with Eldan Greymane to start the conversation. He opens by thanking you for the peace the village is enjoying before admitting there is another problem, then asks whether you will help.

What Eldan Greymane tells you

The chief explains that the Jackals desecrated the altar, and that the act awakened the storm god. Ever since, lightning has been striking the mountain, and he says too many people have already died in the resulting fires.

He closes by asking you to go up and see what is happening for yourself. That request is what hands you the next destination, so there is no separate accept prompt to hunt for.

How to confirm the objective completed

When the dialogue ends, “Talk to the chief of Skallove” is struck through and the quest moves into a new phase labelled “Ancient Barrier.” The tracker then reads “Go to the Scorched Mountain,” and the map marker jumps from the village to the mountain.

If the objective still points at Skallove, you most likely walked away before the conversation finished. Speak to Eldan again and let every line play through, using the fast forward control if you want to skip ahead.

Preparing for the Scorched Mountain step

The new marker leads uphill toward the area Eldan describes as being struck by lightning, and the quest name stays the same in the tracker while the destination changes. Restock before you leave the village, since the route away from Pailun does not always line up neatly with activated Nexus points.

Because this is optional faction work rather than a chapter mission, you can park it and come back later without stalling the main campaign. The marker stays on the map until you make the climb, and the chief’s dialogue will not need repeating once it has played out.
