Every purchasable Class sorted by starter tool strength, perks, and Shard cost so you know where to spend first.

Each run in Defend Bunker from Zombies starts with the Class you buy from the shop, and that choice decides your opening weapon and the perks that carry you through the night waves. Classes are unlocked with Shards, which you collect by exploring the map, surviving runs, and redeeming codes. The ranking below sorts every currently obtainable Class by how much survival power it gives for its Shard price.

This ranking reflects the current August 2026 lineup of Classes. Placement is based on starter tool damage, how useful the three perk levels are during late-night waves, and whether the Shard cost matches what you get.

Why the S-tier Classes lead

Astronaut sits at the top because it opens with the Nuke Device and stacks the strongest perk chain in the game. Bullets ricochet at Level 2, and the Black Hole Ability at Level 3 clears packed groups of zombies that would otherwise overrun your walls. At 950 Shards it is the most expensive Class, but it holds up all the way to the endgame.

Rocketeer trades a little raw utility for reliable splash damage. The RPG hits hard from the start, and the Level 3 perk raises its damage by 200%, which turns crowded lanes into cleared ground. Zeus rounds out the top group with the Blot Spear and a Divine Lightning Ability, and it is the cheapest of the three at 400 Shards or seven days of logging in, making it the easiest high-tier Class to reach.

A-tier: strong value for the Shard cost

The A-tier Classes cost less than the top group while still delivering solid mid to late-game power. Pyro’s Flame Thrower spreads fire between nearby zombies at Level 3 and even boosts your generator fuel, so it works for both defense and base upkeep. Engineer is the pick if your priority is holding the bunker, since it starts with three Bow Turrets and cuts wall and turret repair costs by half.

Soldier keeps things simple with an Assault Rifle, faster reloads, higher fire rate, and ammo returns on kills, which makes it a dependable ranged option at 250 Shards. Medic is the standout beginner Class. At just 40 Shards it slows hunger drain, boosts health regeneration, and grants an Auto Revive after your first death, so new players survive the early nights far more easily.

B-tier: early to mid-game picks

Tycoon leans into economy rather than combat. It starts you with 1,000 Golden Bills, lowers shop and weapon crate prices, and pays out more Bills per kill and each night survived. It helps you buy upgrades faster, but it does not add direct firepower. Swordsman opens with a Katana and reduces melee damage taken, and it can cut trees faster, which speeds up early resource gathering before you swap to stronger tools.

C-tier: skip unless you want variety

Thief lands at the bottom because its 450 Shard price does not match what it offers. The Revolver is a weak starter, and its perks only let you steal up to 400 bills per minute and open loot crates 50% faster. That utility does not help you survive later waves, so almost any other Class is a better use of the same Shards.

Which Class to buy first

If you are just starting, Medic is the cheapest reliable pick and keeps you alive long enough to bank more Shards. Once you have a stockpile, Zeus is the fastest route to top-tier power thanks to its low price and login option. Save toward Astronaut when you want the strongest all-round Class, and pick Engineer specifically when your goal is defending the bunker itself. You cannot change your Class mid-run, so choose before the match begins.
