The Mystery Key is the item that opens the optional secret boss in Deltarune Chapter 5, and the hardest part is figuring out where it goes. You buy it in one place and use it somewhere completely different, far away, near the end of the chapter. That gap is why so many players end up holding the key with no idea what to do next.
Quick answer: Collect 10 Pink Coins, buy the Mystery Key from the pink shop in the Cliffs, then take it to the top-of-castle route near Green’s Shop. Go left when Ralsei warns that the fountain is not that way, clear the platforming drop, and use the key on the large pink door at the bottom.

What you need before the door will open
Two things have to be true before the pink door does anything. You need the Mystery Key in your inventory, and you only get that by spending Pink Coins. Seeing the door early without the key does nothing, so the coins come first.
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| Pink Coins needed | 10 to buy the key (19 exist in the chapter, so you have spares) |
| Where to buy the key | The pink shop in the Cliffs, run by the girl on the cliffs |
| Where to use the key | The large pink door at the top-of-castle route near Green’s Shop |
| Is it missable | Yes, it is optional and can be skipped like Jevil and Spamton |
Pink Coins are spread across the Flower World, usually behind optional paths, statue puzzles, perspective-switch rooms, and 2D platforming sections instead of sitting on the main route. None are in the final area, so sweep earlier rooms as you go. Once the fast-travel doors open later in the chapter, backtracking for any you missed becomes much easier.
Buy the Mystery Key at the Cliffs shop
Once you have at least 10 Pink Coins, head to the Cliffs and buy the Mystery Key. If you already have fast-travel access, use any teleport door and pick Cliffs, then Shop. If the shop tells you that you cannot afford it, you are still short on coins and need to keep hunting.
The key is bought here but used much later, so stop searching the Cliffs area once it is in your bag. There is no lock anywhere near the vendor.

Route to the pink door at the top of the castle
The door is placed deliberately off the main path near the very end of the Dark World. The cleanest landmark is Ralsei. When he tells you the fountain is not in that direction, you are on the route you want. For a normal story progress, that means turn back, but for the secret boss, it means keep going.

How to know the key worked
The pink door opens when you interact with it while holding the Mystery Key, taking you into the secret boss room beyond. If nothing happens, one of these is usually the cause:
- You have not actually bought the key. Having 10 Pink Coins is not enough on its own, the key item must be in your inventory.
- You are at the wrong spot. The door is near the top of the castle by Green’s Shop, not anywhere near the Cliffs vendor.
- You are too early in the chapter. If the late-game castle route has not opened yet, keep progressing the main path until it does.
- You turned back at Ralsei’s warning. The fountain warning marks the correct detour, so continue past it instead of returning.
Prepare before you step inside
Save and stock healing items before opening the door. The room leads to a real secret boss with dense bullet patterns and a sharp difficulty spike, in the tradition of Jevil and Spamton. Set your equipment, top up on healing, and accept that the first attempt may be about learning the fight rather than winning it.
The boss behind the door is Mad Mew Mew, the possessed-doll character from Undertale. That fits an earlier hint, since Seam suggests the Mannequin from Chapter 2 will come in handy here. Bring the Mannequin if you kept it, but the fight is manageable with proper levels, healing, and patience, even without it. With the key used and the door open, the last of Festival Day’s best-hidden fights is yours to take on whenever you feel ready.
