Diablo 2 Resurrected: How to Farm Sunder Charms in Season 15

The six immunity-breaking charms now drop only from high-tier Heralds and level 75-plus monsters on Hell difficulty.

The six immunity-breaking charms now drop only from high-tier Heralds and level 75-plus monsters on Hell difficulty.

Sunder Charms are the fastest way to make a single-element build viable across all of Hell in Diablo 2: Resurrected, because they strip a monster’s immunity and drop its resistance to 95% while the charm sits in your inventory. Season 15 tightens where these charms can appear, so grinding the wrong zone now wastes your time completely.

Quick answer: Play on Hell difficulty, kill Champions, Uniques, Super Uniques, and bosses inside a Terror Zone to spawn Heralds, and keep killing to push those Heralds to Tier 3, 4, or 5, which are the ones that can drop Sunder Charms. Hell act bosses and any monster level 75 or higher can also drop them.

Where Sunder Charms can drop in Season 15

The biggest change is that low-difficulty farming is gone. In earlier seasons you could roll the dice on Nightmare Terror Zones if the level was high enough. That no longer works. Every valid source now sits behind Hell difficulty and a higher monster level floor.

RequirementSeason 15 condition
DifficultyHell only
Monster level75 or higher (was 69)
Heralds that can dropTier 3, Tier 4, and Tier 5
Act bossesMephisto, Diablo, Baal, and Duriel (not Andariel)
Terror ZonesHell only, and the enemies must be level 75 or above

None of these sources guarantees a drop. Act bosses and stray level 75+ monsters carry a low chance, so treat them as bonus rolls rather than a plan. The consistent method is hunting Heralds. Even then, it can take a very long time to see your first one, so a dry streak of hours does not mean you are doing anything wrong.

The six Sunder Charms and what they cost you

Each charm breaks one immunity type. The trade-off is that a Latent Sunder Charm also slices a big chunk off your own resistance to that same element, which is why you pick the charm that matches your damage type and nothing else.

Note: the effect only applies to attacks from the character holding the charm. Your mercenary and party members still see the monster’s original resistance, so their damage will not benefit from your Sunder. You can also carry more than one Sunder Charm at once, but stacking the same charm only deepens the penalty on your own resistance.

How to spawn and rank up Heralds

Heralds are Super Unique enemies that hunt you inside active Terror Zones on Hell. They spawn as purple-aura monsters, and each one you kill raises the tier of the next. The whole loop is about killing elites fast so the Heralds climb to Tier 3 and above, where drops become possible.

Load into a Hell game and go to an active Terror Zone where the monsters are level 75 or higher. Only elite kills matter for this, so focus on Champions, Unique packs, Super Uniques, and bosses.
Keep clearing those elite enemies until the server message “You draw the ire of a Herald” appears. A few seconds later a Herald spawns roughly two screens away with its minions and rushes toward you.
Pull the Herald into open space before you fight it, then kill it. Its minions can swarm you if you stand still in a tight pack.
Keep killing elites in the same game. Every Herald you defeat pushes the next one up a tier, so the sequence climbs from Herald of Fright toward Herald of Terror. The higher tiers are where Sunder Charms actually roll.

Best zones for elite density

Because Herald tiers only climb through elite kills, you want Terror Zones packed with Champions, Uniques, and Super Uniques so the ranks stack quickly. A few Hell Terror Zones stand out for that density.

  • Canyon of the Magi and Tal Rasha’s Tombs (Act 2): Each tomb is loaded with elite packs, which draws Herald ire fast in a tight footprint.
  • Flayer Jungle (Act 3): A large zone that can hold well over a dozen elite packs on Hell, ideal for stacking tiers if you don’t mind covering ground.
  • Kurast Sewers (Act 3): Solid density plus the guaranteed Super Unique Icehawk Riftwing, and a compact layout that makes a hunting Herald easy to find.
  • Black Marsh (Act 1): A fast zone to sweep with a mobile build, with elite packs and nearby zones to chain into.

High-clear-speed builds do this best. A Lightning Sorceress, a Lightning Fury Amazon, or a Fire Warlock can shred dense packs, which keeps Heralds spawning and ranking up. Match the Terror Zone modifier to your build when you can, and steer clear of anything that punishes your defenses, such as Extra Strong on a squishy caster.

Latent vs Renewed, and how to upgrade

What actually drops is a Latent Sunder Charm, and it comes with the harshest possible resistance penalty. On its own it will get you killed if you equip it without preparing for the loss. The endgame version is the Renewed Sunder Charm, which cuts that penalty roughly in half and adds bonus affixes such as extra elemental skill damage or minus enemy resistance.

You craft a Renewed charm in the Horadric Cube using a Latent charm, a perfect gem, a rune, and a Worldstone Shard. The recipe depends on which charm you are upgrading.

ResultCube recipe
Renewed Rotting FissureLatent Rotting Fissure + Perfect Emerald + Ko Rune + Western Worldstone Shard
Renewed Cold RuptureLatent Cold Rupture + Perfect Sapphire + Lum Rune + Eastern Worldstone Shard
Renewed Crack of the HeavensLatent Crack of the Heavens + Perfect Topaz + Fal Rune + Southern Worldstone Shard
Renewed Flame RiftLatent Flame Rift + Perfect Ruby + Io Rune + Deep Worldstone Shard
Renewed Bone BreakLatent Bone Break + Perfect Amethyst + Pul Rune + Northern Worldstone Shard
Renewed Black CleftLatent Black Cleft + Perfect Diamond + Mal Rune + Southern + Deep + Northern Worldstone Shard

Treat the Latent charm as a crafting base, not finished gear. The real value shows up after the transmute, so bank your Latent drops and your Worldstone Shards until you have the runes and gems ready.

How to confirm a Sunder is working

Once a Sunder Charm is in your inventory, hover over an enemy that would normally be immune to your element. The “Immune to” line disappears and its resistance reads 95% instead. That is your confirmation the charm is active. Sunder is applied before curses and auras, so effects like Lower Resist, Conviction, and Cold Mastery then work at one-fifth of their value on that already-sundered monster, while any other minus enemy resistance from separate gear stays fully effective.

The farm rewards patience more than anything else. Chase high-tier Heralds in dense Hell Terror Zones, keep your clear speed high so the tiers climb, and hold onto every Latent drop for the Renewed upgrade that turns it into a real endgame charm.
