Dragon Adventures: How to Beat the Great Devourer Boss (Full Guide)

Where the Great Devourer spawns in Shinrin, how to survive all three phases, and every reward on the line.

Where the Great Devourer spawns in Shinrin, how to survive all three phases, and every reward on the line.

The Great Devourer is the boss of the LEGO NINJAGO crossover in Dragon Adventures, and its temple has taken root inside the Shinrin World. Beating it comes down to reading three attack phases, staying out of its toxic zones, and dealing as much damage as you can before it goes down. Rewards scale with the damage you contribute, so positioning matters as much as survival.

Quick answer: Travel to the Shinrin World, merge and infuse your Ultra Dragon to unlock the fight, then stay behind the boss through Phases 1 and 2 while dodging poison, and move into the blue safe zones during Phase 3 earthquakes before attacking while it is vulnerable.

Where to find the Great Devourer and how to unlock the fight

The boss lives in the Shinrin World, which you reach through the World Portal alongside the game’s other biomes. Open the map and follow the icon to the purple area to locate the temple.

You cannot engage the Great Devourer with any dragon. You first need to merge and infuse your Ultra Dragon. Once that is done, the fight becomes available and you can join other players attacking the boss together.

Note: Because rewards are tied to how much damage you deal, joining a lobby with other players does not reduce your payout. Focus on landing hits whenever the boss is exposed.

Phase 1: Stay behind the head and watch the frill

The opening phase is about positioning. Keep yourself behind the boss so you avoid its front-facing bite. The head frill is your tell here. When it flares, a bite attack is coming, so break off and reposition.

Two hazards define this phase. Green poison clouds linger on the ground and drain health if you sit in them, and red warning circles mark where burrow attacks will surface. Treat the red circles as no-go spots and keep moving.

Phase 2: Circle behind and save your dashes

Phase 2 keeps the same core idea of staying behind the boss, but it adds ranged poison. Circle around the back and do not let yourself get boxed in against terrain, since being trapped removes your ability to dodge.

The boss now spits poison projectiles at you. Hold your dash for these spits rather than burning it on movement. A well-timed dash clears the projectile and lets you get right back on the boss.

Phase 3: Survive the earthquakes, then punish

The final phase shifts to survival. The Great Devourer triggers earthquakes, and blue safe zones appear on the ground. Move into a blue zone as the earthquake hits to avoid taking damage.

After the earthquake passes, the boss becomes vulnerable. That window is when you commit to your damage. Ride out each earthquake in safety, then unload while the boss is exposed, and repeat until it falls.

Rewards for beating the Great Devourer

Defeating the boss pays out based on how much damage you dealt during the fight. The headline drop is the Vermillion Egg, along with Arcane Energy, exclusive cosmetics, and achievement progress.

The Vermillion Egg is the reason to keep running the fight. It can hatch the Great Devourer itself, plus Riyu, the Source Dragon of Motion, the Source Dragon of Energy, Mountain Dragon, Caudembris, Noctorious, and Radidon. The Source Dragons are now recolorable and customizable, and that applies to every Source Dragon regardless of when you got it.

The Great Devourer dragon comes with a unique special attack called Burrow, which lets it dig underground and resurface to deal damage. If you want the Ultra Dragon’s golden armor, which represents each of the elements, you need to defeat the boss three times.

Blacksmith event shop and Source Dragon notes

Arcane Energy earned from the fight feeds into the Blacksmith event shop. Power Growth Potions reduce one hour off a Source Dragon’s power level age, which speeds up how quickly you can bring those dragons up to strength. Gem prices in the event store are currently discounted.

One important caveat applies to mutations. Regular mutation potions do not work on Source Dragons. To add mutations to the Source Dragon of Motion or the Source Dragon of Energy, you need the dedicated Source Dragon Mutation Potions sold during the event.

Put together, the routine is simple to state and harder to execute. Unlock the fight through your infused Ultra Dragon, stay behind the boss and dodge its poison through the first two phases, use the blue safe zones to outlast the earthquake phase, and keep farming Vermillion Eggs and Arcane Energy until you have the dragons and armor you want.
