Raising your character level and vocation rank in Dragon’s Dogma 2 comes down to killing a high volume of monsters, and the richest hunting grounds sit just west of Vernworth around Checkpoint Rest Town. Two routes stand out: the mountain pass that climbs toward Battahl, and the road up to the Ancient Battleground. Both are packed with large monsters that pay out heavy experience and Discipline Points per run.
Quick answer: Fast-travel to Checkpoint Rest Town, then clear the mountain pass (Cyclops, 2 Minotaurs, Chimera) if you are around level 30, or the Ancient Battleground (Ogres, Cyclopes, a Golem) for a steadier climb. Rest in town and return once monsters respawn.

Mountain Pass farming route (level 30 and up)
The pass leading to Battahl holds the densest concentration of large monsters near town, but it hits hard. Aim for at least level 30 before farming here consistently. If the enemies overwhelm you, run the Ancient Battleground instead until your stats catch up.
Bring plenty of Roborants for both healing and stamina recovery, since you will be chaining fights against Redwolves, Rattlers, Knackers, and the bigger threats without much of a breather.
How to reach the pass

Large monsters and EXP values
The small enemies feed a steady trickle of Discipline, but the big creatures carry the run. Clear the smaller packs as you move between bosses rather than sprinting straight from one to the next.
| Monster | Count | EXP each |
|---|---|---|
| Rock Lizard | Many | 624 |
| Cyclops | 1 | 2,678 |
| Minotaur | 2 | 3,296 |
| Chimera | 1 | 5,047 |
Respawn timing and limits
Once the route is clear, go back to Checkpoint Rest Town and rest on the bench beside the Oxcart station. Let five in-game days or more pass before returning; the regular enemies will have refreshed. If the run reduced your maximum health, sleep at the inn to recover it.
Not every large monster returns forever. The Cyclops tends to stop appearing after roughly three farming runs, and the Chimera may only show up once. The two Minotaurs and all the smaller enemies keep respawning even after ten or more loops, which makes them the dependable backbone of this route.
Treat the Cyclops and Chimera as bonus kills rather than guaranteed targets, and plan your long-term grind around the Minotaurs.

Add to Google Preferences →Ancient Battleground route (safer, scaling difficulty)
The road from Checkpoint Rest Town up to the Ancient Battleground is the more forgiving option. Difficulty ramps up gradually, so you can warm up on weaker packs before committing to the heavy fights inside the ruins.
Expect to encounter bandits, Harpies, Knackers, and one or more Ogres while approaching the fortress entrance. Several Cyclopes defend the battleground’s ramparts. Nearby, an Armored Cyclops is fighting a lesser dragon; take on both if your equipment is up to the challenge.
Night runs and Skeletons
Arrive after dark and Skeletons spawn around the fortress, adding more Discipline per trip. Once you empty a Skeleton’s health bar, crush its skull to stop it from reviving, otherwise it stands back up and you fight it again.
The Golem near the Mountain Shrine
After clearing the fortress, climb to the top where you face the Armored Cyclops and find the Black Matter maul. From there, head to the mountainside just past the walls and locate the tunnel to the Mountain Shrine.
At the tunnel’s opposite end, you’ll find a Golem. Defeating it yields a substantial amount of additional XP and Discipline, along with Magic Medals that can be sold for extra Gold. Continue higher up the shrine to eventually come across a Sphinx, but visiting it isn’t necessary to complete the farming loop.

Which route to pick
Your choice comes down to how much punishment your Arisen can take. The pass rewards players who can drop Minotaurs quickly and want repeatable boss kills, while the battleground suits a more gradual push with a reliable Golem payout at the end.
- Mountain Pass: Best from level 30, strong repeat value on the Minotaurs, some bosses stop respawning.
- Ancient Battleground: Easier entry, scaling fights, and a Golem that keeps the route worthwhile.
Both routes double as vocation grinders. Clear your chosen loop, fast-travel back to town, switch vocations, and repeat the same encounters to bank Discipline Points toward new skills and augments.

Boost every kill with the Ring of Ambition
The Ring of Ambition raises the experience you earn from defeating foes by roughly 50 percent, so equipping it before a run multiplies the value of everything you kill on either route.

You will know it worked when the trial resolves, the Sphinx acknowledges your win, and the reward chest opens with the ring inside. From then on, kills show noticeably larger XP popups while the ring is equipped.
Farming in the Dark Arisen expansion
If you own Dark Arisen and have already unlocked Norgan, the northern region offers another strong source of XP and Discipline. Beorcan raiders and the other monsters there pay out well while you gather local crafting materials and gear.
Norgan is punishing for under-leveled characters. If you struggle to survive, farm the Mountain Pass or Ancient Battleground first, upgrade your equipment, and return once you are better prepared for the expansion’s tougher fights.
Whichever loop you settle into, the rhythm stays the same: clear the route, recover in town, wait for the respawns, and run it again. Stack enough passes with the Ring of Ambition on, and you will climb through character levels and vocation ranks far faster than through story progress alone.
