Changing the look of your gear without losing its stats finally works in Dragon’s Dogma 2 once you reach Norgan in the Dark Arisen content. The feature is called Tailor Equipment, and it lives at Hal the blacksmith’s forge. Before he can offer it, you have to clear a single side quest that sends you after an ice dragon and across a frozen lake.

Quick answer: Accept Reaching the Far Shore from Jiera in Norgan, weaken Fimbl at the mountain stronghold, kill it at Lake Norgan, rest a day for the lake to freeze, grab the Tailour-Crafte Treatise from the Lakeside Grotto, and give it to Hal.
Requirements before Tailor Equipment can unlock
Both Jiera and the tailor are based in Norgan, making this a Dark Arisen-only quest. Jiera makes it available after the Norgan storyline reaches the Fallen Dragon’s resurrection, and only once the settlement has been rebuilt.
- Own the Dark Arisen content and reach Norgan. Capcom recommends about level 40 for the region.
- Push the Norgan main story past Soul Searching and into Where There’s a Will, There’s a Way.
- Rebuild the settlement by clearing village quests, including healing Hal and finishing Village Defense.

Add to Google Preferences →Norgan main quests that lead to the prerequisite
Two Forsaken Dominion main quests set up both the story gate and the side quest itself. Sealed History is what flows into the prerequisite quests, while Rumbles in the North opens the line that includes Village Defense and Reaching the Far Shore.

| Quest | Leads to | Rewards |
|---|---|---|
| Rumbles in the North | Village Defense, Reaching the Far Shore, and others | 100,000 XP, 2,000 rift crystals |
| Sealed History | Soul Searching, Where There’s a Will, There’s a Way | — |
Sealed History requires Chilling Tidings first, so if the side quest is not showing up yet, you still have ground to cover in the main story.
Starting Reaching the Far Shore
The tome is tucked into a cave on Lake Norgan’s southern bank, but the brine prevents you from crossing on foot. The dialogue chain points you toward the sole route across.

Defeating Fimbl across three locations
Fimbl has to be worn down at two spots before it will settle over the lake, so the first two fights are about pressure, not a kill. Save your strongest consumables for the final stage.
Switching to the Archer vocation makes this last fight far steadier, since fire arrows let you deal ranged damage while staying mobile instead of being pinned to a stationary ballista.
Freezing the lake and taking the treatise
Killing Fimbl does not open the crossing straight away. Its corpse needs time to freeze the water into a solid path.
Unlocking Tailor Equipment at Hal’s forge
Hand the Tailour-Crafte Treatise to Hal. After he reads it, he explains that the book describes an old smiths’ technique for altering how a piece looks without touching what it does. That conversation completes Reaching the Far Shore.
You know it worked when a new Tailor equipment line appears in Hal’s menu alongside Manufacture, Buy, Sell and Talk. Selecting it opens the appearance editor for both your Arisen and your main pawn.

How Tailor Equipment works
Tailoring swaps the visual model of a piece of gear while its stats and effects stay exactly the same. The look you copy from stays in your possession, and nothing is consumed, so you can switch an item back to an earlier appearance at any time.
The one restriction that catches people out is which gear can be changed. Only Relic weapons and armor found in Norgan and appraised can receive a new appearance. Base-game weapons and armor keep their own look no matter how many times you visit Hal, but they can still serve as the appearance source. Wear a Relic piece for its stats and tailor it to match a Vermund or Battahl set you like.
- Appearance changes are available for weapons, shields, helmets, body armor, and leg armor.
- Not covered: masks, glasses and cloaks keep their original look.
- Template choices: any weapon or armor you own currently or have owned previously, including base-game gear.
- Applies to both your Arisen and your main pawn.

Every change costs gold, generally in the range of 300 G to 4,500 G depending on the appearance. A base discount of 10% shows on the fee, and an extra 50% is applied when you currently hold that specific item in your inventory. Because the appearance attaches to the individual gear piece rather than the slot, upgrading or replacing a Relic later means re-tailoring the new piece.

Keep favourite base-game pieces in storage rather than selling them. Owning an item when you tailor into its look triggers that extra discount, which adds up quickly once you style a full outfit across both your Arisen and your pawn.
