Grab a Lv 1 Light Weaponry spoils from the Valgr Ravine waterfall wreck, then have Jiera appraise it for 15 RC.

In the Norgandian Settlement, Jiera’s Relics of the Past quest introduces appraisal. Find a relic—also called spoils in the game—take it to Jiera, and have her appraise it. Any spoils count, so your only job is to find one and bring it back.

Quick answer: Pick up “Spoils: Lv 1, Light Weaponry” from the sunken wreck in the waterfall pool in Valgr Ravine, return to Jiera, choose “Tell me of relics.”, and appraise it for 15 RC to finish for 3,000 XP.

Starting the quest and finding Jiera

Relics of the Past starts as soon as Chilling Tidings ends in the Norgandian Settlement. Jiera is close by, seated beneath the porch of the wooden house next to the bonfire. Speak with her to learn that Norgan contains ancient battle relics, which she can appraise; you can obtain them by battling beorcans or searching the area.

After the conversation, the banner displays “Relics of the Past” and “Priority Quest Set Automatically”. The Quests menu places it beneath the “Forsaken Dominion” region heading, with the objective “Obtain a relic.” While you are still in the settlement the tracker can also read “Speak with Jiera.”; walk up to her and it switches back to “Obtain a relic.” On the adjacent map, two yellow search zones appear beyond the settlement. Around the same time, a tutorial notice titled “Spoils and Abandoned Supplies” appears.

Jiera’s spot shows on the local map as “Jiera’s Appraisals”. In the world she sits on a carved chair with a round metal shield hanging above her and a small table holding a bowl and candle beside her. Before you carry a relic, her menu reads “Tell me of relics.” / “Tell me of this region.” / “Never mind.” Choosing the first option now only earns a reminder to go and find one.

You can start out without any rift crystals. Jiera gives you 300 RC for this first appraisal, which is more than enough to cover its cost.

Where to find spoils early: the Valgr Ravine waterfall wreck

You can find spoils all over Norgan or get them from defeated foes, so your first one can come from anywhere. For an early pickup, head just beyond the settlement to Valgr Ravine. Since the map doesn’t mark the exact spot, use the landmarks below in sequence.

Go out through the ruined stone archway, where a torch is lit. A paved road leads away from the gate; as you pass through, the area name “Valgr Ravine” appears.

Take the road downhill until you reach the lake. In the shallows by the shore, find a damaged wooden cart with blue cloth scraps. Search it to collect a Norgan Salmon and an Emergent Vitality.

Head along the shore toward the high plume of white smoke, then make your way up the rocky slope beyond it. During the climb, you’ll see the notice “Encountered: Beorcan and others.” On the grassy ledge above, another notice says “Encountered: Direwolf and others.” The white direwolves move in a pack and attack together.
You can get the relic without winning the ledge fight. If the pack sends you over the edge, descend and continue beside the stream below. Follow the water to the first pool beneath a waterfall, where creatures stand in the shallows. Floating loot here includes Withered Branches and a Fulgurous Lord, but this isn’t the pool with the relic. Armed beorcans are waiting on the path beyond it.
Continue along the rocky stream bed until you spot another shattered cart in the running water. On the grassy bank just behind it stands a short, round stone platform. Search the cart to obtain an Explosive Arrow and a Warming Salve.
A few steps on, the stream ends in a deeper green pool between two rock walls, with a second waterfall pouring into it. At the near edge, beside a large boulder, a sunken wreck of a crate, clay jars, and a sword pokes out of the water. Pick up from it. The item reads “Spoils: Lv 1, Light Weaponry”, the quest logs “You obtained some spoils.”, and the tracker switches to “Bring a relic to Jiera.” The item’s own text reads “Timeworn arms of an ancient war. Have them appraised to obtain a sword, daggers, or censer.” and it weighs 0.01 kg.

Beorcans and a direwolf pack occupy the slope above the lake, while more beorcans are positioned near the first waterfall. You can sprint past all of them; defeating them is not required to obtain the relic.

How to appraise the relic with Jiera

Head back through the same stone archway and return to Jiera’s porch.

Hold to speak with Jiera, then select “Tell me of relics.” She verifies that you have a relic and tells you that appraisals all require rift crystals. For this first appraisal, she supplies some herself; a notice shows 300 RC. Any later costs come from your own supply.
The Appraisal screen arranges your spoils in a left-side grid, shows the chosen item and its cost in the center, and lists “Items for Appraisal” on the right. The displayed cost for “Spoils: Lv 1, Light Weaponry” is 15 RC. Confirm it to add the spoils to the appraisal list; the totals become 1 / 100 and 15 RC.
Choose “Appraise”. The game asks “Spend 15 RC to appraise?” with Yes and No. Pick Yes. The result panel shows the weapon you received along with its weight, value, and any special skills. The item menu then offers “Take” / “Add to Favorites” / “Send to Storage” / “Sell” / “Cancel”. Pick “Take” to drop it into your pack.

Lv 1 Light Weaponry spoils can appraise into a sword, a set of daggers, or a censer, and the special skill on each piece is rolled at random. The result can be a Barbaric Axe, 2.17 kg, carrying Cloudfall Strike, but do not count on that exact result. If a piece does nothing for your build, “Send to Storage” and “Sell” are right there in the same menu.

How you know the quest is done

Leave the appraisal screen and “+3000 XP” and “+0 Dcp” appear together, alongside a notice named “About Special Skills”. The quest log reads “You had Jiera appraise your spoils for you.” and then “Completed: Relics of the Past”. That is the whole reward for the quest: 3,000 XP and whatever the spoils became. The 300 RC arrives before the appraisal, not as a completion reward.

Jiera’s menu now offers “Appraise” / “Trade Spoils for Rift Crystals” / “Talk” / “Cancel”, letting you bring her more spoils as you explore. Higher-level and rarer spoils can produce rarer special skills, including additional ones, and you can submit multiple items together—up to 100 in one batch.
