Break the abandoned firepits, clear the beorcans, and hand three Heatstones to Ryatt in the Norgandian Settlement.

Break the abandoned firepits, clear the beorcans, and hand three Heatstones to Ryatt in the Norgandian Settlement.

Sticks and Stones is a Forsaken Dominion side quest in Norgan that turns on a single task: gather three Heatstones and pass them to a commission soldier named Ryatt, who wants to study them. The stones come out of abandoned firepits scattered across Norgan, and the whole job is short once you know where the firepits sit and who actually takes the delivery.

Before you start: requirements

You need to have finished the Forsaken Dominion main quest Chilling Tidings before Sticks and Stones becomes available. You also need a Climbing Hook in your items, because the first leg of the quest asks you to scale a cliff that has no walking path.

The quest begins with Morgus, a commission soldier clad in steel armor over his chest. Find him on the Lake Norgan shore beside the sunken stone bridge, and speak with him.

How a Heatstone comes out of a firepit

An abandoned firepit is a cone of burning sticks where beorcans make camp, sending up smoke. You cannot inspect or open it; attack this piece of scenery with a weapon to smash it. A Heatstone will be among the remains, ready to collect using the usual “Pick Up” prompt.

Beorcans guard these camps, usually alongside white wolves or direwolves. Expect the “Encountered: Beorcan and others.” banner at a firepit, so clear the enemies first and break the fire afterward.

Sticks and Stones walkthrough

Find Morgus on the shore of Lake Norgan and speak with him. He knows heatstones exist, but not their origin; he suspects firepits contain them and wants you to accompany him since beorcans are often nearby. At the “Accept” / “Decline” prompt, select Accept.
The objective becomes “Scale the cliff.” There is no path up the rock behind Morgus, but a wooden tether post stands on the ridge above. Take out a Climbing Hook and throw it at the post. A rope ladder drops down the cliff face.
Ascend the ladder, then stay with Morgus as he makes his way up the snowy trail and stairway toward the ruined arch. The objective is “Accompany Morgus.”
At the camp, the “Encountered: Beorcan and others.” banner appears. Beorcans and white wolves attack, and Morgus fights beside you. Kill them until the quest confirms “You defeated the beorcans.”
After defeating everyone at the camp, smash the firepit. The log records “You destroyed the abandoned firepit,” Morgus hands over your share of the stones, and the next objective directs you to report to Ryatt.
Morgus catches up with you inside the Norgandian Settlement. Since he can no longer continue the search, he revises the task: “Morgus amended his request,” and your objective changes to “Gather three heatstones.” He says firepits are the most reliable source, though abandoned campsites may also have stones, and he has marked several firepits on your map. Take the stones to Ryatt.
Visit more firepits until you hold three Heatstones. In the quest list, the map panel is labelled “Abandoned Firepit” and the world-map marker points to one. Reaching it updates the log with “You found an abandoned firepit.” Clear the beorcans, break the fire, and Pick Up the stone at each.
Once the third stone is in hand, the quest reads “You gathered plenty of heatstones,” then “Deliver the heatstones to Ryatt.”

Three abandoned firepit locations

Lake Norgan cliff camp

This is the camp you visit with Morgus, and one of three firepit spots covered here; Morgus marks others on your map. From the lakeshore where he waits, ascend the rope ladder and continue along the trail and steps toward the ruined arch. Past the arch, the route carries on through Valgr Ravine in the direction of the Beorcan Stronghold.

Norgandian Foothills standing-stone clearing

Leave the Norgandian Settlement by the wooden bridge outside the palisade gate; the area name becomes “Norgandian Foothills.” Follow the trail south-southeast to a clearing ringed by tall standing stones with a fire in the middle. The guards here are a Beorcan with an axe and a pack of direwolves. After the fight, a Heatstone is on the ground in the clearing. This spot overlaps with the When the Culling Gets Tough quest, where Dwayne leads you to the same place.

Ruined fort terrace above Lake Norgan

From the Lake Norgan shore, take the rope up the cliff and fight through the beorcans in the ruins. Head to the open stone terrace reached by a short flight of steps. The firepit is a smoking cone of sticks on the paved terrace; a single sword swing breaks it apart, and the Heatstone is then on the ground where it stood. Two chests sit in the same ruins, one on a broken parapet and one on wooden scaffolding against a ruin wall.

Delivering to Ryatt

Deliver the stones to Ryatt, a soldier stationed in the Norgandian Settlement. Find him near the well, beside a carved stone covered in moss at the bottom of the stone stairs. He has a dark beret and wears a cloak over his breastplate. His name tag reads “Ryatt,” though pawns call him Ser Ryatt. Speak to him to open the Deliver screen.

The screen has one slot, Heatstone marked “x0/3” and tagged “Specified Delivery Only.” Select your Heatstones, set “How many?” to 3, and choose Deliver. The game confirms “You delivered the heatstones to Ryatt,” then “Completed: Sticks and Stones.”

A Heatstone you were already carrying counts toward the three. Any stone of this type works, whether it came from a firepit, a campsite, a shop, or crafting.

Other ways to get Heatstones

If you do not want to run every firepit, there are faster routes to the three you need:

  • Lying at campsites with a “Pick Up” prompt, such as Rivercave Campground.
  • Aymond sells them for 3,000 G, with 10 in stock and 4 added each day; Ilda’s price is also 3,000 G, with 1 in stock and 1 added every 2 days.
  • To craft 3 Heatstones, combine Sunstone with Molten Ore. Sunstone paired with Warming Salve also yields 3.

Your quest reward includes a Sunstone and a Molten Ore, enough for one of the listed recipes. Mix them afterward to produce three additional Heatstones.

What the Heatstone does

A Heatstone keeps campfire warmth. Activate it from the Items menu to temporarily shield the whole party from the chilled debilitation. Take one along before entering a whiteout or the Norgan Snowfield. Each weighs 0.05 kg, sells for 150 G, and stacks to 99. Combine one with Withered Branches to create Explosive Arrow.

Save some Heatstones after turning in the quest. They are the usual way to ward off the chilled state, and the quest’s Sunstone and Molten Ore can be combined to craft three more when your supply gets low.

Rewards and what comes next

  • 3,000 XP
  • 10,000 G
  • Sunstone
  • Molten Ore
  • Winterweed

Finishing Sticks and Stones leads into another Morgus quest, A Howl in the Dark.
