Ultimate Team is getting its biggest rework in years for EA FC 27, and most of it points in the same direction. Cards are meant to stay useful for longer, your time is rewarded faster, and the busywork around building squads is being stripped out. The mode still sits at the center of the game when it launches on September 25th, 2026, but almost every core loop around collecting, upgrading, and finishing challenges has been touched.
Quick answer: The headline changes are the new FUT Gallery collection system, Squad Building Challenges that use a point score instead of overall and chemistry requirements, branching Evolutions, single-player Live Events, a capped power curve, and Coins plus Season Points paid out at the end of every match.

FUT Gallery gives every card a purpose
The FUT Gallery is a permanent collection system that works a lot like a sticker album. Every player item you own can be slotted into curated sets tied to leagues, clubs, or card types, and each card carries a score based on the player and its rarity. Those scores add up to a set grade that runs from D at the bottom to S at the top.
The key difference from previous years is that cards are not consumed when you place them. They stay in your club, so items outside your starting eleven finally have a use beyond being fodder. As your galleries level up, you earn rewards like kits, badges, and Gallery Tokens.

New Holographic items also arrive inside packs. These rare cards carry a shiny design and the featured player’s signature, score higher in your galleries, and help push set grades up faster.
Gallery Tokens are spent in the Hall of FUT store on exclusive cosmetics and special cards. That store is where the new legend cards live, which brings us to the next change.
Hall of Fame cards are a new rarity
Hall of Fame is a brand-new player item rarity that sits just below ICONs and Heroes and above standard special cards. These items celebrate cult-favorite footballers and influential modern names, with elite attributes, enhanced PlayStyles, and unique card designs.
There are 17 Hall of FUT cards at launch, including Givanildo Vieira de Sousa (“Hulk”), Marouane Fellaini, Loïc Rémy, Eljero Elia, Giovani dos Santos, and Adebayo Akinfenwa. You can pick them up through packs, Squad Building Challenges, objectives, player picks, and seasonal rewards, in addition to the Hall of FUT store.
SBCs move to a point score system
The old Squad Building Challenge requirements are gone. There are no more overall rating or chemistry targets to hit. Instead, each challenge asks for a squad score, and every card you submit contributes points toward that goal.

If a challenge needs 500 points, how you reach that total is up to you. You can hand in a couple of high-rated cards or clear out a stack of bronze fodder. You can also submit items gradually as your club fills up, which removes a lot of the early-game grind where hitting rating and chemistry targets was hardest.
Branching Evolutions and the PlayStyle Lab
Evolutions now offer branching paths at every stage, including the first. Each branch can favor different stat boosts, PlayStyles, and even visual upgrades, so two players can take the same base card and end up with very different results. That means the “meta” version of a popular Evo is no longer identical across everyone’s club.

You can preview the full Evolution chain before committing, so you can see exactly where a path leads. Want a winger built around pace and finishing rather than passing and playmaking? You choose that route yourself.
The PlayStyle Lab returns from launch and recurs throughout the year. It lets you manually invest in specific PlayStyles for your items. Lower-tier traits are cheap, while high-impact meta traits cost more time or Coins. Some cards will also come with predetermined PlayStyles.
Single-player Live Events
Ultimate Team is adding player-versus-AI Live Events that sit alongside the multiplayer offering, so you can chase premium rewards without going online. The first of these is a UEFA Champions League Road to the Final gauntlet.
The difficulty escalates as you advance. Early rounds start on the easiest setting, and the deeper you go, the tougher the AI opposition becomes. Reach the final and you face the current Champions League winners, Paris Saint-Germain, on Ultimate difficulty, with the event reflecting the 2025/26 season to begin with.
The power curve is being pulled back
EA Sports is deliberately slowing how strong cards get, with the goal of keeping items relevant for longer. Base Icons received a full rebalance, with stats and PlayStyles aligned more closely to the real player and a raised minimum overall of 88. Endgame items will be noticeably less boosted than in EA FC 26.

The clearest example is the cap on PlayStyle Plus abilities. Special items will carry a maximum of three PlayStyle Plus for most of the year, which is meant to stop cards from going obsolete the moment four- and five-trait items appear. In theory, a card you build early can stay in your squad much longer.
Tactical flexibility also gets a boost. Every promo item ships with familiarity in both its primary and secondary roles from the start, so you can drop it into your setup without taking a performance hit.
| Area | What changes |
|---|---|
| Base Icons | Retooled stats and PlayStyles, minimum 88 overall |
| Endgame items | Smaller attribute boosts than the previous game |
| PlayStyle Plus | Capped at three for most of the year |
| Promo roles | Roles++ familiarity in primary and secondary positions at launch |
Rewards and progression
Payouts shift to the end of each match. Instead of waiting for weekly milestones, you earn Coins and Season Points as soon as a game finishes, whether you play one match or a hundred. Season Points are no longer tied only to completing objectives, and there are more ways to earn tradable packs.
Progression itself is being reshaped around the idea of “slower to strong, faster to elite.” Your base squads improve a little slower at the start of the year before picking up pace later, which is designed to keep you attached to your cards for longer. The season calendar is also five weeks shorter, another move aimed at extending how long your best items stay relevant.
Promos are being thinned out too. Each season is built around one major campaign with fewer players per promo, and FUT Swap Tokens return at set points across the year with their own stores for exclusive players, packs, and Evolutions.
Campaign Hub for tracking everything
The new Campaign Hub is a single menu that pulls together your Objectives, Evolutions, Squad Building Challenges, Tokens, seasonal content, and event progress. Rather than digging through separate screens, you track limited-time content and rewards from one place, which cuts down on menu navigation.
