Elden Ring Tarnished Edition: Steel Armor Set Location and Rune Cost

The Steel Armor Set is the heavy plate loadout tied to the new Heavy Knight class in Elden Ring Tarnished Edition, and you do not need to start a fresh character to wear it. All four pieces sit in a single merchant’s inventory in the Weeping Peninsula, close enough to the starting area that a low-level character can walk there and buy the whole thing in one trip.

Quick answer: Travel to the Isolated Merchant’s Shack in the Weeping Peninsula, south of the Fourth Church of Marika, and buy the Steel Helm, Steel Armor, Steel Gauntlets, and Steel Greaves from the Isolated Merchant for 4,500 runes total.

Steel Armor Set pieces, rune cost, and weight

The set is four pieces, sold individually. The chest is the expensive one at 1,500 runes, and everything else is 1,000 runes each. It is also genuinely heavy plate, so the full set adds up to 43.8 weight, which will push most early builds into medium or heavy equip load without Endurance investment.

Route to the Isolated Merchant’s Shack in the Weeping Peninsula

Start from the Church of Elleh in northern Limgrave, which is a short ride from the first open-world Site of Grace. This is the easiest anchor point for the trip because you can ride almost the entire route on Torrent.

Ride south through Limgrave and cross the Bridge of Sacrifice into the Weeping Peninsula. The area title appears on screen once you are across, confirming you are in the right region.

Head for the Fourth Church of Marika, then continue south. The Isolated Merchant’s Shack is below the church, marked by a small tent-like camp rather than a proper building.

Note: this is the same Isolated Merchant who has always been in the Weeping Peninsula. The Steel pieces are simply added to the existing shop inventory, so there is no new NPC to unlock and no quest step to clear first.

Buying the four Steel pieces from the Isolated Merchant

Talk to the Isolated Merchant and choose Purchase from the dialogue options. The shop list opens with the merchant’s full stock.

Scroll to the armor entries and buy the Steel Helm, Steel Armor, Steel Gauntlets, and Steel Greaves. Each piece is a permanent stock item, so you can buy them one at a time as runes allow rather than saving up the full 4,500.

Back out of the shop and open your inventory to confirm the purchase went through. Bought armor goes straight into your inventory, not into a delivery chest.

Checking the Steel gear in the equipment menu

Open the equipment screen and slot each piece into its matching Head, Chest, Arms, and Legs position. Highlighting a piece shows its defenses and resistances side by side with whatever you are currently wearing, which is the fastest way to see how the extra weight is affecting your equip load before you commit to the full set.

Getting the Steel set for free with the Heavy Knight class

If you are rolling a new character anyway, pick Heavy Knight at character creation and you start wearing the complete Steel set with no runes spent. That class also starts with the Hefty Scimitar, a curved greatsword that is otherwise sold by the merchant in east Limgrave, north of Fort Haight, for 2,400 runes.

The merchant route matters mainly for existing saves. Buying the four pieces lets a character you have already leveled wear the armor without restarting, and the two methods produce identical gear.

Requirements on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox

On Nintendo Switch 2, the Steel set ships inside Elden Ring Tarnished Edition itself. On PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, the same content arrives through the separate Tarnished Pack add-on, priced at 4.99 euros. If you are continuing an existing save on those platforms, the game also has to be updated to version 1.17 or higher before the new stock appears in the merchant’s shop.

If the Isolated Merchant’s list looks unchanged, the pack is either not installed on the active account or the game is running an older build. Verify both, reload the area, and the four Steel entries will be there.
