Penny Buns are red mushrooms in Enshrouded, and they grow almost entirely in the Springlands. You can pick them up one at a time while you explore. The faster method is a farm patch next to a fast travel point, plus a seedling recipe that lets you grow your own once you have picked the first one.

Quick answer: Fast travel to Ancient Spire: Springlands, then glide west to Harvest Homestead. Its mushroom patch gives eight or nine Penny Buns per visit and regrows over time.

Harvest Homestead Penny Bun farm route

Harvest Homestead is a small Springlands farm just west of the Ancient Spire. On the world map it sits slightly northwest of the spire. The Shroud surrounds it, and Wolves live there. The farm plots grow Penny Bun, Corncob, and Aureolin Flower, so one trip also tops up two other Springlands ingredients.

The Flame Altar’s Strengthen the Flame screen shows the Flame Level rising from 1 to 2 and lists the upgrade requirements: Resin, Penny Bun, Bones, Shroud Liquid, Spark and Animal Fur.

You need two things before you go. The Ancient Spire: Springlands fast travel point must be unlocked, and you need a glider equipped, because the route starts at the top of the spire.

Open the map and fast travel to Ancient Spire: Springlands. You arrive at the top of the spire.
Jump off the western side of the spire and open your glider. Steer toward the farm plots and houses of Harvest Homestead below.
Land in the garden beds and harvest the mushroom patch. Then work through the neighboring beds, which hold more Penny Buns, for a total of eight or nine per visit.
Place a marker on Harvest Homestead on your map. The patch regrows after some time, so you can repeat the same run later.

You can also find a few Penny Buns around the base of the Ancient Spire. They are spread out, though, so gathering them takes longer than clearing the homestead beds.

Grow Penny Buns at your base with a Seedbed

Harvesting your first Penny Bun unlocks the Penny Bun Seedling recipe at the Seedbed. The Seedbed is a crafting station from the Farmer, so you need to have rescued the Farmer and brought them to your base. One Penny Bun and one Bonemeal make five seedlings in three minutes. Seedlings stack to 100.

Plant the seedlings in soil and water them. Each one grows into a mushroom that you can harvest once. Growth time depends on the soil:

SoilGrowth time
Fertilised Farm Soil2:30
Farm Soil5:00
Revelwood Dirt10:00
Flower Soil15:00
Springlands Dirt20:00
Nomad Highlands Dirt, Sand, Albaneve Summits Dirt, Shroud Infused Farm SoilWill not grow

Farm Soil is made from Dirt and Bonemeal. Fertilised Farm Soil grows Penny Buns eight times faster than plain Springlands ground. A few beds of it can supply more mushrooms than repeat trips to Harvest Homestead.

Where Penny Buns grow in the wild

Every wild Penny Bun comes from plants and bushes placed in the world. The game has 3,651 of them, and nearly all are in the Springlands:

The Flame explains that the two Ancient Obelisk of the Springlands hold the story of the world’s fate, a story of rot and fire.

They grow in grassy areas, and the red caps are easy to see against green ground. If you harvest the bushes and plants you pass while traveling in the Springlands, you will collect them steadily. This method is less predictable than the homestead patch.

How many Penny Buns you need

Penny Buns can fill each inventory slot to a maximum of 20. Since some recipes call for large quantities, plan your run around the ones you want to craft:

RecipePenny BunsStation
Mushroom Omelette (x5)10Kitchen
Creamy Mushroom Spaetzle (x5)5Kitchen
Meat Wrap (x5)5Kitchen
Cloudy Brook (x5)2Coloring Station

A single Omelette batch uses more than one full homestead visit. If you cook it often, the Seedbed method saves time.

Confirm your Penny Bun pickup worked

A harvested Penny Bun appears in your inventory as a common consumable. Eaten raw, it gives +3% Magic Damage for 600 seconds. Cooking it at a Campfire makes a Grilled Penny Bun, which gives +6% Magic Damage for 1,200 seconds.

Your first pickup also unlocks two recipes: the Health Potion at the Alchemist (as long as it is placed under a roof) and the Penny Bun Seedling at the Seedbed. If both recipes appear at those stations, you are ready to farm Penny Buns at your base.
