Scrappy Greatsword

The Ancient Vault – Carpenter hides a silver chest that most players run straight past on their way to free Cade Hawthorn. It sits below the vault, inside a sealed alcove you have to dig open, and it rewards a Scrappy Greatsword once you reach it.

Quick answer: Glide down into the Shroud chasm beneath the Ancient Vault – Carpenter, head toward the Flame Sanctum, and break the rubble wall with a pickaxe to open the hidden silver chest.

Where the silver chest is located

The vault sits in the Low Meadows, east-southeast of Braelyn Bridge and slightly south of the Low Meadows Ancient Spire. This whole area is covered by the Shroud, so the chest is not in the vault’s main corridors. It is tucked into a lower chasm you drop into after entering, close to the section marked as the Flame Sanctum.

Fast travel does not work while you are inside the Shroud, so you cannot teleport out mid-run. Plan to leave the Shroud on foot or glide before returning home.

What to bring before you go

The approach and the vault are both Shroud-covered, which means a timer is running the moment you step inside. Prepare before you leave rather than scrambling once you arrive.

  • A Flame Altar at Level 2 lets you endure the Shroud both inside the vault and around it.
  • A pickaxe such as the Scrappy Pickaxe, needed to break the rubble wall.
  • A bow with Scrap Arrows or Flint Arrows for the flying Banshee.
  • Healing items and your best armor for the trek through the mist.

How to reach and open the silver chest

Make your way to the Ancient Vault – Carpenter, then pass through the stone arch at the front. Head straight for the inner edge instead of taking on every enemy at the entrance.
Jump off the ledge and open your glider to descend into the lower Shroud chasm. The drop lands you in a misty cavern between tall rock formations, below the vault’s main path.

Deal with the airborne Banshee patrolling the lower ground before you move on. A bow with Scrap Arrows handles it from range, and the remains drop loot worth collecting.

Continue along the cliff route toward the Flame Sanctum area and cross the narrow ledge. Across a short gap, check the rock face for a solid dirt-and-rubble barrier sealing a passage.
Equip your pickaxe and mine through the rubble until the blockage clears and a small alcove opens up behind it.

Step into the concealed room and open the silver chest. It hands you a Scrappy Greatsword, after which you can mine the surrounding wall further and jump back out onto the path.

You will know it worked when the Scrappy Greatsword appears as a loot notification and lands in your inventory. If the prompt reads “Too far,” step closer to the chest before interacting.

Fell Banshee drops in the chasm

The flying enemy guarding the lower ground is a Fell Banshee, and it appears across the Ancient Vault – Carpenter and many other regions. Clearing it is worth the detour, since its drops feed directly into armor crafting and legendary weapon upgrades.

Aerated Banshee Gel is a light protective material used primarily to craft armor. Save any Legendary Runes found here for future upgrades; these scarce artifacts are needed to improve legendary weapons, shields, armor, and rings, including the Scrappy Greatsword you just pulled from the chest.
