Escape Detention Mode in Neverness to Everness Using Two Items

Two stolen items let you break out of the Hethereau Detention Center without paying the 30,000 Fons fine.

Two stolen items let you break out of the Hethereau Detention Center without paying the 30,000 Fons fine.

Getting locked up in Neverness to Everness is easy. Push your Warrant level past one star by stealing, brawling with NPCs, or smashing property, and you land in the Hethereau Detention Center. The expensive way out is a 30,000 Fons fine. The cheaper way is to steal two specific items and walk yourself out through the sewer.

Quick answer: Steal a Spoon (twice) to dig through your cell wall in the Another World… escape, or steal Concentrated Disinfectant from the infirmary to corrode the sewer grate in the Be Like Water escape. Both reach the sewer, both skip the 30,000 Fons fine.

The two items that get you out of Detention Mode

Both item-based routes end at the same place: the sewer that leads to the ocean. The difference is how you open the path and where you enter it.

ItemWhere to get itWhat it does
Spoon (x2)Cafeteria counter during lunchDigs through the brick wall behind your cell poster
Concentrated DisinfectantInfirmary medicine shelfCorrodes the sewer grate by the basketball court

Spoon escape (Another World…)

This is the most direct route. You dig out of your own cell with stolen cutlery, hide the hole behind a poster, and crawl into the sewer. It takes two spoons because the first one snaps before the wall opens.

Interact with the poster on your cell wall. This exposes a section of loose brick you can dig through.
Interact with the poster on your cell wall.
During lunch, take a Spoon from the counter on the right side of the cafeteria. Wait until the woman standing nearby turns toward the washing area before you grab it.
Go back to your cell and use the spoon on the bricks behind the poster. The spoon breaks before the wall is fully open.
Use the spoon on the bricks behind the poster.
Steal a second Spoon during lunch the next day and finish digging the hole.
At night, return to the cell, interact with the poster again, and crawl through the completed hole into the sewer.
Move through the sewer while avoiding the security lights. Stick to the walls and only advance when a light points away. Follow the path all the way to the ocean to finish the escape. If a light catches you, a guard drags you back.

Concentrated Disinfectant escape (Be Like Water)

This route also ends in the sewer, but you enter through the exercise yard instead of your cell. The single item you need is Concentrated Disinfectant, pulled from the infirmary while the doctor is distracted.

During recreation time, talk to a guard and choose “I’m not feeling well…” to get sent to the infirmary.

In the infirmary, speak to the Feigning Prisoner on the bed. They pull the doctor’s attention away.
While the doctor is busy, grab the Concentrated Disinfectant from the medicine shelf next to the storage cabinet.
Grab the Concentrated Disinfectant from the medicine shelf.
Head to the exercise yard behind the cafeteria. The sewer grate sits next to the basketball court. Apply the disinfectant to the grate. Nothing changes right away.
Come back the next day during recreation time. The grate is now corroded and passable. Drop into the sewer and avoid the security lights to reach the exit.
Drop in to the sewer to escape.

Note: If you have already used the “I’m not feeling well” line once, using it again gets you penalized. From the second visit on, go to the exercise yard, find Tornado, and select “Stop” during his fight. You lose and get carried to the infirmary, which counts as a legitimate visit.

How to know the escape worked

Both routes end the same way. Once you clear the sewer and reach the ocean, the escape completes and you are free of the Hethereau Detention Center. From there you can take the parked boat back to the city port, or fast travel to any Wertheimer Tower or Rero Rero Phone Booth.

Why an escape might not trigger

A few specific things stop these routes from working:

  • Grabbing a Spoon while the cafeteria woman is watching means you fail the theft and have to try again.
  • Reusing the “I’m not feeling well” excuse after the first time gets you penalized, so use the Tornado fight to reach the infirmary instead.
  • Getting spotted by a security light in the sewer sends a guard to haul you back to your cell.
  • The game can block a method you have already completed, so you may need a different route on a later sentence.

Paying the 30,000 Fons fine to a guard is still the only instant exit, and it works with fast travel. Later in the game, when Fons are easy to come by, that is the simplest option. Early on, the amount stings, which is exactly when the Spoon and Concentrated Disinfectant routes pay off, since they keep your money and still get you out.
