EverQuest Legends: Best Early Items and Where They Drop

The standout weapons and effect items worth farming from Blackburrow through Lower Guk, plus exactly where each one comes from.

The standout weapons and effect items worth farming from Blackburrow through Lower Guk, plus exactly where each one comes from.

Norrath is stuffed with gear, but a handful of early drops carry far past the level where you find them. The picks below cover weapons and effect items that plug real holes in a build, either because they fix a common weakness or because they stay useful for a very long time. None of them require endgame raiding to unlock, so you can chase them while leveling your first character.

Quick answer: Grab a one-handed mace from the Blackburrow gnolls early, farm the Golem Metal Wand in Befallen for its buff-strip click, pick up the Black Alloy Medallion in Runnyeye for Mana Preservation II, and head to Lower Guk for the Moonstone Ring and the +31% Haste Mithril Two-Handed Sword.

Melee weapons to grab first

If you are running any melee class, weapons matter more than most other early upgrades. Blackburrow is a low-level dungeon with fresh loot, and the gnolls inside drop a one-handed mace that will carry you through many levels. It is easy to farm because the entrance area stays populated, so you can grind it without pushing deep.

The next step up is the Enchanted Fine Steel Bastard Sword. It comes off mobs on the bottom level of Befallen, which usually means you will be in your 20s before you can safely reach it. Take your time on the way down, since the lower floors are harder than the entrance.

Note: Caster classes should not sweat weapon upgrades the same way. Pouring motes into your spells to power them up returns more than chasing a caster weapon, so spend your effort there instead.

Golem Metal Wand in Befallen (Level 17–22)

The Golem Metal Wand carries the Pillage Enchantment click, which strips a positive buff off an enemy target. It must be equipped to use, casts in 4.0 seconds, and has a 240-second cooldown. Plenty of enemies buff themselves and throw up damage shields, so being able to cancel that on demand is a real advantage. The click is also worth extracting later and slapping onto a shield you actually wear.

Enter the Befallen dungeon, found in an alcove in the sandy southern section of West Commonlands.
Take the second door on the left, then drop down into the next area at the end of the hallway and follow the path to the door dead ahead.
Go down the stairs. A dangerous Footman of V’Zher patrols here, so be ready before you push past.
Go through the door and take the next door to your left. This drops you into the dark elf section, where Kahapra Z’Taj waits just ahead. That named enemy has the chance to drop the wand.

Black Alloy Medallion in Runnyeye (Level 24–32)

The Black Alloy Medallion carries the Mana Preservation II focus, which cuts spell mana cost by 10% up to level 44. That is one of the most reliable early upgrades for any caster, since it stretches every fight further before you have to sit and drink.

Runnyeye Citadel named enemies in EverQuest Legends

The drop lives on the bottom level of Runnyeye Citadel. Make a break for the lowest floor and look for named enemies and bosses such as the Pickclaw Destroyer, since those are the mobs that can drop the medallion. An Invisibility spell, whether your own or cast by a group member, makes the run down much smoother, and a private instance makes the whole trip easier to manage.

Tip: Do not fight your way to the bottom. Enemies here often pull in large trained packs, and that is a fast way to die when you are solo or on a higher difficulty setting for the zone.

Lower Guk drops worth the danger

Lower Guk is a step up in difficulty, but it holds two items that punch above their level range. Both are worth the trip once you can handle the crowds.

Moonstone Ring (Level 35–42)

The Moonstone Ring grants Extended Range II as a spell focus, which lets you pacify and land spells on enemies from much farther away. That range becomes valuable in raid situations later. It drops from the Frenzied Ghouls in Lower Guk, found in the circular room on the eastern part of the map. Follow the flowing blood to reach the right area. The catch is that the Frenzied Ghoul is a rare spawn, so it may take patience, but it is a fine target to watch for if you are already grinding down here.

Mithril Two-Handed Sword (Level 40–45)

The Mithril Two-Handed Sword grants +31% Haste while equipped, which is a standout early haste source. You do not even need to swing it. Drop it into an Any slot and keep your preferred weapon, and you still get the haste.

It drops from the Froglok King at the end of the live side of Lower Guk. Reach it on the western side of the map after going back up the tower, then drop into the little pit that puts you in the Froglok section. In the first hallway, watch for a red splotch on the right wall and jump over that stretch to avoid a pitfall. This part of the map is tough because of the many healer-type enemies.

The Froglok King sits in the southwestern part of the map, near coordinates -106, -78, -234. Bring a pacify effect before you engage. The room is packed with Frogloks, and every one of them will aggro if you start the fight without crowd control.

None of these are the full list of must-have gear, but each one either fills a gap most builds have or stays relevant far longer than its level range suggests. Farm the melee weapons early, keep the effect items like the Golem Metal Wand and Black Alloy Medallion for their clicks and focuses, and treat the Lower Guk pair as goals you work toward as your character gets strong enough to survive the crowds.
