Moonlight Peaks has 22 named fish spread across its lakes, rivers, marshes, caves, and the sea at Luna Bay. Some appear year-round in calm water, while others only show up in a specific season, during rain, at a set time of night, or under a full moon. Sorting out which is which is the difference between a quick collection run and hours of guesswork.
Quick answer: Small-shadow fish can be caught with the starting Fishing Rod. Large-shadow fish require the Premium or Enchanted Fishing Rod. Match the location to the condition below, then cast into the shadow and reel in when it bites.
Rods you need and how to unlock them
You get your first rod for free early on. On your second night, cross the bridge to the right of your house and pass through the archway to meet Noel on the sandy shore. He challenges you to catch three different fish types before he does. Do it and bring the catch to him at The Broken Lamp inn, and he hands over 250 Coins.
The basic rod only handles small shadows. To catch the large-shadow fish, you need to upgrade at Ridge’s store, which costs 16,000 Coins plus 3 Gold Bars along with your original rod. The Enchanted Fishing Rod goes a step further and removes the energy cost of fishing entirely.
| Rod | Fish sizes | Energy cost |
|---|---|---|
| Fishing Rod | Small only | 4 |
| Premium Fishing Rod | Small and Large | 4 |
| Enchanted Fishing Rod | Small and Large | 0 |
Casting is simple. Look for the fish-shaped shadow, throw the line near it, and reel in when a fish bites. Drop the lure straight into a shoal and the fish scatter, so reel in a little to draw them back. Every rod has about a 20% chance to pull up trash, which you can still sell later.

These make up the bulk of the collection and can be caught the moment you have your first rod. Sell prices below are the base (unstarred) value paid at Chester. A 1-Star or 2-Star catch is worth more.

Large-shadow fish (Premium or Enchanted rod)
Large shadows will not bite on the basic rod, so finish the Premium upgrade before you go after these. Goliath is the standout payout at 500 Coins and only appears in the morning, while Moonflutter is locked behind the full moon.

| Fish | Location | Condition | Sells for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gnasher | Rivers near Silverveil Lake | Any time | 90 Coins |
| Daybreaker | Moonlit Pines river | 3–6 AM (morning) | 130 Coins |
| Furybud | Luna Bay | Any time | 180 Coins |
| Gloy Gloy | Howling Marshes | Any time | 180 Coins |
| Moonflutter | Luna Bay | Full moon (Day 15) | 220 Coins |
| Goliath | Moonlit Pines river | Morning only | 500 Coins |
Conditional fish to plan around
Most fish bite any time in their home water, but a handful only appear under specific circumstances. Miss a seasonal fish and you have to wait for that season to come back around, so it helps to know these in advance.
| Fish | Trigger |
|---|---|
| Mouthout | Only spawns while it is raining at Silverveil Lake |
| Goldy | Only in Spring and Summer, in rivers near Silverveil Lake |
| Fortipod | Only in Winter at Silverveil Lake |
| Twilight | Only between 6 PM and 8 PM at Luna Bay |
| Daybreaker | Only in the early morning (3–6 AM) in Moonlit Pines river |
| Goliath | Only in the morning in Moonlit Pines river |
| Moonflutter | Only during the full moon, which falls on Day 15 of each season, at Luna Bay |
Tip: The full moon on Day 15 is a good time to double up. You can line up Moonflutter at Luna Bay and, in the same evening, catch Twilight during its 6–8 PM window.
Highest-value fish to sell
If your goal is Gold rather than the Museum, focus on the five fish below. Star quality raises every price, so a 2-Star catch is worth noticeably more than the base value listed.
| Fish | Base | 1-Star | 2-Star |
|---|---|---|---|
| Missing | 750 | 940 | 1,100 |
| Goliath | 500 | 620 | 750 |
| Skullfin | 350 | 440 | 520 |
| Amour | 280 | 350 | 420 |
| Moonflutter | 220 | 280 | 330 |
An efficient collection route
One thing to keep in mind for the Museum. The full fishing list holds 22 named entries, but the Aquarium display is sometimes counted as 21 because the special fish Missing is handled separately. Catch all 22 and you have covered every possibility either way.
