Every chicken in Grow a Chicken Fighter hatches with exactly one Skill, and that single ability does more work than raw stats in most fights. Skills fire automatically once your fighter is in combat, so the difference between a healing burst and a weak shove is often the difference between holding the Pit and losing your scrap run. Since a fighter can only carry one Skill at a time, the choice matters more than anything else you invest in.
Quick answer: Put Cycle of Ash, Voodoo, or Rebirth on your strongest chicken — they heal, reflect damage, and revive respectively, and they carry both Tower runs and PvP in the Pit.

Grow a Chicken Fighter Skills tier list (August 2026)
This ranking reflects the game as of August 2026, after the Update #1 chicken additions, which did not move the top of the skill meta. Placements weigh three things: survivability in long Tower fights, damage output against another player’s fighter in the Pit, and how well the Skill holds up once it is fused onto a high-rarity chicken.
| Tier | Skills |
|---|---|
| S | Cycle of Ash, Voodoo, Rebirth |
| A | Za Warudo, Mjolnir, Titan Mode, Split Image, Blood Draw, Ride of the Fallen, Cyclone, Deep Freeze |
| B | Gale Fan, Home Run, Iaido, Sound Barrier, Wave Break, Commando Turret |
| C | Egg Missile, Fault Line, Mine Field |
| D | Field Kit, Stun Baton, Static Cheeks |
Note: Titan Mode and Za Warudo are the two contested placements. Both are strong enough to clear early Tower floors on their own, but their buff and freeze windows are short, which is why they sit below the sustain-based S-tier picks rather than alongside them.

The pattern at the top is simple. The best Skills do not just add damage, they change how long your chicken stays alive while it keeps swinging.
Cycle of Ash restores health over a few seconds and drops a large area attack at the same time, which is why it is the standard pick for high-scaling chickens like the 404 Chick and Nebula Hen. Voodoo reflects incoming damage straight back at the attacker and follows up with a multi-hit burst, so the harder an enemy fighter hits, the worse the trade becomes for them. Rebirth is the safety net: the first time your chicken dies, it comes back at 50 percent health, releases an area attack, and gets a short window of invincibility.
The A tier is where the burst and buff Skills live. Mjolnir calls down several lightning strikes, Za Warudo freezes the target in place and unloads damage, Split Image clones your chicken with identical stats for a few seconds, Blood Draw raises your damage before a heavy knockback hit, Ride of the Fallen recovers health while boosting attack and speed, and Titan Mode briefly turns your fighter into a bigger, tankier, faster version of itself.
How to get the best Skills
A Skill always comes attached to a specific chicken, so acquiring an ability means hatching the bird that owns it. Several of these carriers are weak fighters on their own — Radiant Fenghuang and Doll Hen in particular are worth hatching for their Skills and nothing else.
| Skill | Carrier | Egg sources |
|---|---|---|
| Cycle of Ash | Radiant Fenghuang | Royal Egg (1%), Blazing Egg (2%) |
| Voodoo | Doll Hen | Haunt Egg (2%), Blazing Egg (3%) |
| Rebirth | Phoenix Hen | — |
| Za Warudo | Baron Cluck, Golden Goose | Royal, Fortune, Arena, Blazing Egg; Golden Goose from Fortune Egg (1%) and Blazing Egg (25%) |
| Mjolnir | Viking Rooster | Thunder Egg (7%) |
| Titan Mode | Founder Rooster | Royal Egg, Ordnance Egg |
| Split Image | Twin Rooster | — |
| Blood Draw | Vampire Rooster | — |
| Ride of the Fallen | Valkyrie Hen | — |
Moving a Skill onto a better chicken
A chicken’s Skill is fixed at hatch. The only way to change it is to merge that chicken with another one that has a different ability, which is how the strongest fighters in the game are built. The two combinations everything else is measured against are Reaper Rooster fused with Doll Hen for Voodoo, and 404 Chick fused with Radiant Fenghuang for Cycle of Ash. Nebula Hen with Cycle of Ash is the third meta build.

Skills to leave behind
The bottom two tiers are mostly starter abilities. Egg Missile, Fault Line, and Mine Field are explosive on paper but land too little damage to matter once enemy health pools grow. Field Kit, Stun Baton, and Static Cheeks are the abilities you will see on Common chickens, and they are the first thing to fuse away.
B-tier Skills such as Gale Fan, Home Run, Iaido, Sound Barrier, Wave Break, and Commando Turret sit in the middle for one reason: they push the enemy back a short distance without doing meaningful damage. They are fine for early Tower coin farming, but they stop pulling their weight well before you reach the higher floors.
If you are still early on, Za Warudo is the most practical target. Baron Cluck drops from four different eggs, the freeze buys you time in almost every matchup, and the chicken itself is cheap to scale while you farm toward a Reaper Rooster or 404 Chick. Save the S-tier Skills for the fighter you actually intend to max out.
