Every Make a Drill Farm Mutation, Multiplier, and How to Get It (Update 4)

All seven drill mutations from Update 4, the exact ore multiplier each one applies, and the three reliable ways to add them.

Mutations are the fastest way to raise ore output in Make a Drill Farm without buying more expensive crates. Each mutation attaches a permanent visual effect to a drill and multiplies how much that drill produces, so a well-placed mutated drill can outperform several plain ones. As of Update 4 there are seven mutations to chase, ranging from a modest 2x boost to a full 10x.

Quick answer: You get mutated drills three ways — weather events, the Golden Machine, and Mutation Cells from the Blackmarket. Blackhole (10x) is the strongest mutation, and the guaranteed route to any specific mutation is buying its Mutation Cell.

All Make a Drill Farm mutations and multipliers

Every mutation raises a drill’s ore production by a fixed amount. The multiplier stays with the drill, so once a mutation is applied you keep the bonus for as long as that drill is placed. Here is the full list ranked from lowest to highest multiplier.

Magma5x

Blackhole is the best mutation in the game right now at 10x. Because Gold and Lightning both land at 3x, and Tacos and Magma both sit at 5x, you have cheaper alternatives whenever a same-tier mutation is easier to obtain.

How to get mutated drills

There are three routes to a mutated drill. Weather events and the Golden Machine both rely on chance, while Mutation Cells let you pick the exact mutation and drill you want. You can start on the official Roblox page for My Drill Farm if you are not already in game.

Weather events

Each weather event in Make a Drill Farm has its own mutation. While an event is active, any drill placed on your plot has a chance to be hit with that event’s mutation. The more drills you have out, the more chances roll, so expanding your plot and filling it with drills directly improves your odds. Spread your placements to keep as many drills eligible as possible.

Golden Machine

The large Golden Machine in the center of the map is the only source of the Gold mutation. It is a gamble, so treat it with caution.

Pick up the drill you want to gamble and place it into the Golden Machine.
Pay the required cash to roll for the Gold mutation. If the machine fails, you lose both the cash and the drill you inserted, so never feed in a drill you cannot afford to lose.

Mutation Cells from the Blackmarket

Mutation Cells are the guaranteed way to put a specific mutation on a specific drill, and the effect is permanent. You buy them from the Blackmarket, which opens twice every hour for a 10-minute window each time. Save your Gems for the mutation you actually want, since some of the top-tier cells are expensive.

The Lightning Mutation Cell costs 4,000 Gems and grants the same 3x boost as Gold without the risk of the Golden Machine. The Blackhole Mutation Cell costs 14.6K Gems, which is the direct route to the game’s highest 10x multiplier since Blackhole is hard to roll naturally.

Stacking mutations and picking targets

Drills can hold more than one mutation. Weather events can apply multiple mutations over time, and Mutation Cells let you add extra mutations on top of whatever a drill already carries, so your best drills can compound several boosts.

For value, skip the Golden Machine when you only need a 3x boost. Lightning delivers the same multiplier through the Lightning weather or the 4,000-Gem cell with no chance of losing your drill. If you are aiming for the ceiling, put your Gems toward the Blackhole cell and apply it to your highest-earning drill for the full 10x return.
