Far Far West Train Wreck Locations: Trackwreck's Quest Walkthrough

The mysterious train wrecks in Far Far West aren't random scenery. They mark the three stops of Trackwreck's Quest, a hidden mission chain handed out by a Railroad Worker NPC who appears beside each crashed locomotive. Recovering the black boxes from all three wrecks is the only way to unlock the Far Far North snow region, and none of the sites show up as map markers.

Quick answer: Talk to the Railroad Worker at the train wreck on the Far West, Canyon, and Area 41 maps, hold the moving extraction circle until the black box download hits 100% on each, then turn the quest in at the saloon to unlock Far Far North on your next run.

Trackwreck's Quest requirements

Before chasing the wrecks, make sure your account meets the gating conditions. The third extraction sits inside Area 41, which is itself locked behind a separate questline in the Desert. Skipping that step will block you at the final wreck.

Far West train wreck location

The first wreck sits in the northern part of the Far West map and works on any difficulty. Look for the broken train and the Railroad Worker standing beside it. Speak to him to start the extraction.

Once the timer begins, a green circle appears on the ground. Stand inside it as the progress bar fills, then move with it whenever it shifts position. Enemies start spawning around the halfway mark, but the bar only advances while you remain inside the ring, so positioning matters more than damage.

Tip: The circle telegraphs its next spot before fully relocating. Watch the shift animation and step into the new position early instead of chasing it after it moves.

Canyon train wreck location

The second wreck is on the east side of the Canyon map, on slightly raised ground. Find the Railroad Worker, talk to start the extraction, and repeat the same circle-holding pattern while the black box data transfers.

If your build has a doll skill available, save it for this stretch. The brief invulnerability window keeps you anchored inside the ring when several enemies stack up at once. Heal only when you are about to go down, then return to the circle immediately so progress does not stall.

Area 41 train wreck location

The final wreck sits in the northeast section of Area 41. Approach the marked crash site, speak with the Railroad Worker, and begin the last extraction. The mechanic is unchanged, but the circle relocates more often here, so expect to reposition several more times than at the first two sites.

Treat enemy waves as a secondary concern. Stay on the ring, wait for the download to reach 100 percent, and then extract safely back to the saloon to bank the progress.

Warning: If Area 41 is not yet on your map list, this step cannot start. Finish the Dr. Spark-Twist questline in the Desert first to unlock the region.

How to know it worked

Each wreck completes the moment the extraction bar hits 100 percent and the Railroad Worker dialogue updates. After the third successful extraction in Area 41, you must extract from the run alive at the saloon for the quest to register. Die before the train leaves, and the black box does not lock in.

On your next mission selection screen, Far Far North appears in the list of available maps. That entry is the confirmation that Trackwreck's Quest is fully complete.

Common reasons the quest does not progress

  • Stepping outside the circle pauses the download. Standing in it is the only state that advances the bar.
  • Going down or dying during an extraction cancels that wreck and forces a restart at the same site.
  • Skipping the saloon extraction at the end of the run wipes the black box pickup, even after a clean 100 percent.
  • Attempting the third wreck without Area 41 unlocked simply leaves you with nowhere to start the final step.

Stick to the order Far West, Canyon, Area 41 and treat the moving ring as the only objective that matters during each extraction. Once all three black boxes are turned in at the saloon, the snowy Far Far North region opens up for your next run.
