Far Far West Trainwreck Questline: Unlock Far Far North

Far Far West Trainwreck Questline: Unlock Far Far North

The Trainwreck questline in Far Far West is the gate that opens the Far Far North map. It runs across three existing regions and asks you to defend a moving extraction zone while a black box downloads, then turn the data in at the saloon.

Quick answer: Find the Railroad Worker at the train wreck on Far West, Canyon, and Area 41, complete each extraction by staying inside the moving ring until the progress bar fills, then return to the saloon to receive the Far Far North map.

Trainwreck questline requirements

Before you can finish the chain, Area 41 must already be unlocked on your account. That map is gated behind The Great Marauder Secret quest from Dr. Spark-Twist on the Desert map. If that line is incomplete, the third extraction is unreachable, and the whole quest stalls.

The questline itself is given by the Railroad Worker NPC, who appears at the wreck site on each of the three maps. The wreck spots are not marked on the world map, so you have to locate them by exploring the regions.

How the extraction works

Each wreck plays out the same way. You speak to the Railroad Worker, the extraction begins, and a green ring appears on the ground. Standing inside the ring fills a progress bar that represents the black box data download. The ring shifts to a new position on a timer, and enemies start spawning around the halfway mark of the bar.

Position inside the ring is what matters. Kills do not advance the bar, and stepping outside pauses or slows progress. The ring telegraphs its next location with a brief shift animation, so you can pre-move instead of chasing it after the change.

Note: Difficulty level does not change the mechanic. The same extraction works on any difficulty, so there is no benefit to running a harder mode for this quest.

Far West trainwreck

Step 1: Travel to the northern part of the Far West map on any difficulty. Look for a broken train and the Railroad Worker standing beside it.

Step 2: Talk to the Railroad Worker to start the extraction. The first ring will appear on the ground near the wreckage.

Step 3: Stand inside the ring and stay with it as it moves. Around halfway through the bar, enemies begin spawning. Treat them as a secondary concern unless they are about to knock you down. Once the bar fills, the wreck completes, and you can leave the area.

Canyon trainwreck

Step 1: Load into the Canyon map and head to the east side, where the wreck sits on slightly raised terrain. The Railroad Worker is again next to the train.

Step 2: Speak to him to begin the second extraction. The ring behavior is identical to Far West.

Step 3: Hold the ring while the black box downloads. Defensive abilities, including doll skills if your build supports them, give short windows of protection that help you stay planted when enemies stack up.

Area 41 trainwreck

Step 1: Enter Area 41 and travel to the northeast section of the map to find the final wreck.

Step 2: Talk to the Railroad Worker to start the last extraction. The ring shifts more often here than on the previous two maps, so plan to reposition more frequently.

Step 3: Stay in the ring until the download reaches 100%, clear or kite enemies as needed, then extract safely back to the saloon.

Turn-in and unlock confirmation

After all three wrecks are recovered, the quest is closed out at the saloon. The Far Far North map then appears on your world map in the northern section, and it shows up as a selectable option the next time you start a mission. The associated challenge, which asks you to recover black box data from all three trainwrecks, also completes and grants the Far Far North map as its reward. Each individual wreck additionally awards 100 Gold on completion.

Common reasons the questline does not progress

  • Area 41 is locked because the Dr. Spark-Twist questline on the Desert map is unfinished. The third wreck cannot be reached until that prerequisite is cleared.
  • You left the ring too often during a download, allowing the run to end or the player to be downed before the bar filled. The wreck must be completed in a single successful run.
  • Only one or two of the three wrecks are recovered. The Far Far North map only appears after the saloon turn-in for all three is complete.
Tip: In a party, assign one player to anchor the ring while the others handle adds. Solo runs are fully doable, but they reward patience over aggression. Keep eyes on the ring's movement pattern, treat enemies as interruptions rather than targets, and only step out to heal when a knockout is imminent.
